after you get past the average presentation the game really sucks you in and i love the realism factor (not arcade)
the planes feel authentic, missions are very well done, graphics and sound are really good.
id say its better than ace combat 6,blazing angels and easily better than the highly dissapointing arcade fest h.a.w.x.
oh,and online is good laugh too.

  Could be better

As said previously this is worth a purchase if you can find it cheap enough. I just found the arcade mode a bit basic/easy and didn't really get the need for the lock on option, yet the harder settings seemed to take away all of the fun elements I was looking for. Perhaps I just wasn't doing it right! Definitely worth a play, great graphics but I lost interest far to soon to see it through.

  CRACKING WW1/2 GAME

Tried the demo of this and easily got addicted. Just got my hands on the full game and yes some of the missions are easy. But it's awesome, flying through the air with no boundries on controls and shooting down baddies!!!

  Incredible

This game is absolutely incredible! After seeing trailers and game-play on youtube, I decided I'd give the game a go, and was pleasantly surprised when I loaded the disc and began the first campaign mission. The graphics are definitely noteworthy, with the game achieving full 1080p high-definition.
The overall game-play is so flexible, with the arcade being good for casual users and the simulator and realistic difficulties being very good for portraying WWII combat. Each mission is quite unique, with a whole host of different aircraft and lots of different missions like dog-fighting, ground attack and bombing all spanning across England, Russia and Germany in many unique environments and varying weather conditions and time of day.
The soundtrack is also very good, with a realistic radio allowing you to issue orders to your flight and take instructions from the ground. The sound fx are also very realistic, with each engine and machine-gun sounding different to the next. This just keeps on adding to the overall gaming experience.
Ratings:

Visual: 10/10
Superbly realistic and incredibly detailed. 1080p makes a real difference

Game-play: 9/10
Some great missions but recon missions can get very repetitive. Still, they only make up about 5% of the missions.

Sound: 10/10
This game has unparalleled levels of complex engine and gun-models, making for an engaging experience.

Overall: 10/10
A fantastic game and I highly recommend that you buy it.

  Pretty Good

Paid no where near the RRP price which is cool as the game's not worth any where near that price!...BUT if you can get this cheap its well worth the cash, Arcade mode is extremely easy with the levels pretty short, OK you are given a option after finishing the main objective to carry on in the battle area which does lengthen the level a bit, I'm now playing in SIM mode which is well hard but very satisfying once you get the hang of it..Graffix are pretty good with the planes looking brilliant and a rarity in these type of games the ground is pretty well detailed as well...All in all its a good game, online is a blast if you can find people on the same level as you. If you can get this game for under 20 it's well worth forking out for it .

  Big disapointment

I was looking forward to the relaease of this game, I was sorly disapointed! Graphices are nothing special and the game in arcade is easy beyond belief, and very predictable and repetative Who ever did the research for the aircraft wants shooting! When was an ME 262 slower than a Spitfire? And when was the P51 slugish and unresposive? I messed around in aracde mode pitching different planes against HE111's most fighters had problems keeping up with the 111's? PLEASE! DO your homework.....This is more like a PS1 or PS2 game complete waist of £29, sadley I cant get my money back. Do expect to see mine at playtrade even if I can only get a couple quid back I will be happy

A really enjoyable & addictive WW2 plane game

My wife bought me this game last Saturday and it's been hard to stop playing it. So much so I told the missus I'd come to bed at 10:00pm and didn't end up joining her until 12:45am, oooops! The aeroplane graphics are superb as is the landscape views, especially when dogfighting over the white cliffs of Dover. There are loads of storyline missions to complete and also added are single missions aswell which really adds to the variety. I'd would have given the game a 5 star rating but for the online gameplay. When I first went online and tried to join a game a message kept coming up that no games were available, so eventually I ended-up setting-up my own game and waiting for others to join in. It didn't take too long to do this and for others to join in my game but it can be frustrating if you just want to quickly go online and join in an already set-up game.

Easily accessable WW2 fighter ace fun.

I was originally a bit Sceptical about this title... Being of the opinion that my console games should be fun and that any flying game should reflect this I was worried that they would either go too far down the sim route and mess things up or go too far toward the arcade game and loose any actual feel that the title could offer.
In the end I thought I would give it a whirl anyways and boy am I glad I did, dog fighting with the luftwaffe over the garden of england and stalingrad (The point I am upto now) has been very addictive, challenging and fun.
The game has an arcade mode (No ammo worries etc - Great fun) a realistic - stalling and spinng become a real worry here and a simulation mode - Havent tried this one yet - and so encompases a wide variety of tastes.
The online mode is fun although I did get blown to pieces a fair bit, I think more practice is in order!
The more you play the more aircraft you unlock for multiplayer and there is also a single mission mode where you can pick everything from fuel load too weapon load out and adversaries.
All in all I cant recomend this game enough, £30 (2 rounds in the pub if your really lucky) is a pitance for this amount of entertainment, and if flying round shooting down Luftwaffe aces and blowing up tanks is your thing then I highly recommend this game, the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is for the slightframerate clip that happens - albeit rarely - during some more intense stages of the game.

Hope this review helps & maybe see you up there on PSN....

I pre-ordered this game through Play.com and now that I have it I am very glad that I did.
The tutorial gets you into the game quickly, but look out for the staggering difference between the "Arcade" and "Realistic" difficulty settings.
I'm not a regular flight-sim player so it took me some time to get used to the never stall, never get shot down ease of arcade to the "my God I actually need to be a pilot" level of control offered in realistic.
I don't think I'll even attempt the "Simulation" level until I've got some more hours under my belt.
I'm sure this game will keep me entertained for months, long after some of my Call Of Duty wannabe shooter games have been traded in and forgotten.
