Lost Planet 2 picks up 10 years since the events of the original adventure and the landscape has evolved dramatically. With the success of terraforming activities, the planet's ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and other new environments. The story has advanced beyond Wayne Holden as players will now follow the exploits of their own customised snow pirates on their quest to seize control of E.D.N III. Players will move their heroes through different stories creating a truly unique and interactive experience. With this concept, gamers will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from various perspectives.

Beyond the deep single-player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with one the most extensive multiplayer campaign seen in a shooter to date. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends.

A decade has passed since the first game, and the face of E.D.N. III has changed dramatically. Terraforming efforts have been successful and the ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and harsh unforgiving deserts. Players will enter this new environment and follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirate on their quest to seize control of the changing planet.

Players will control their heroes across 6 interconnected episodes, creating a truly unique interactive experience that changes depending upon the actions of the players involved. With this concept, players will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a much more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from different players' perspectives.

Beyond the deep single player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with extensive multiplayer modes. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends. The grappling hooks that made the gameplay in Lost Planet a true 3-D experience are back, allowing gamers to gain tactical advantage by moving to elevated locations quickly.

No action game would be complete without an arsenal of weaponry, and Lost Planet 2 has a huge variety of hardware for players to unleash on unsuspecting enemies. Machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, lasers, sniper rifles, grenades and a host of other weapons are scattered across the game. However, Lost Planet 2's biggest weapons come on two legs: the heavily armed and armored robotic Vital Suits return in greater numbers and variety than the first game. There are VS that transform into other vehicles, hold up to three players and some that even take multiple players to operate.

  • 4-player co-op action: Team up to battle the giant Akrid in explosive 4 player co-operative play. Teamwork is the player's key to victory as the team is dependent on each other to succeed and survive
  • Single-player game evolves based on players decisions and actions
  • Deep level of character customization: Players will have hundreds of different ways to customize their look to truly help them define their character on the battlefield both on- and offline. Certain weapons can also be customized to suit individual player style
  • Beautiful massive environments: Capcom's advanced graphics engine, MT Framework 2.0, will bring the game to life with the next step in 3D fidelity and performance
  • Massive scale of enemies: Players skill on the battlefield and work as a team will be tested like never before against the giant Akrid. Players will utilize teamwork tactics, new weapons and a variety of vital suits (VS) to fight these larger-than-life bosses
  • Rewards System- Players will receive rewards for assisting teammates and contributing to the team's success
  • Up to 16-player Multiplayer modes and online ranking system
  • Exciting new VS features- Based on fan feedback, the team has implemented an unbelievable variety of Vital Suits and new ways to combat VS's. The new VS system will have a powerful impact on the way the player takes to the war zone in Lost Planet 2

I recently decided to give this a go after burrowing it from my brother and tbh I wasn't expecting too much. I was really suprised by the quality of this game.

For a start the in-game graphics are lush and really portray that sort of exotic, jungle type environment. The cutscenes are reasonable, but not on the same level as games like Final Fantasy 13. The Music to this game is pretty good too, as is the entirety of the audio infact.

The whole customisation aspect is definately one of the reasons this game is so fun to play. There is a ton of upgrading to be done, five factions to choose from, as well as some more imaginative ideas. These include some taunt like actions, a slot machine to acquire abilities and in depth visual cusomisation of each of your five characters.

The actual gameplay is solid enough with A.I teammates (honestly they are not that bad, but the game will be very frustrating at times without human support). With real people however, it becomes very addictive to just keep playing through the game and replaying missions. The variety of enemies is great and the game doesn't ever seem to feel repetitive. The weapons feel tight and satisfying, althought the controls take some getting used to.

There are some other great little touches too, like an assessment on every mission you play with a grade based on your performance. The game may not have a single stand out set-piece of a battle, rather it is consistently fun and compelling throughout. It only really starts when you finish as this opens up a lot more customisation options as well. A great little title by Capcom.

Like Marmite - It's a love or hate thing

I've not played through the entire campaign but so far I've enjoyed every minute of it. I can't understand why the reviewers rate it so low. OK yeah the AI is not the best but it is at it's best when playing the campaign with other people online. The controls can get some getting used to, but I found using Type B in the options suited me better.
I've had a couple of goes on the online game and was quite impressed considering the bad reviews. The only negative thing is that the game suits to small to medium size maps and not the larger scale ones.
The graphics are nice, and to me it is a good shooter with some epic battles with the Akrid. The VS's are a nice touch especially the ones where one person does the driving and 2 other people can get on the turrets on the side.
All in all it is good mindless fun maybe it's not for everyone Ok it's not brilliant but I like it and to me it doesn't deserve some of the bad reviews because it has alot of good points which overcome the bad points.

 Misunderstood Game

Alot of reviews for this game are negative.

However this game really has good qualities that no other game right now has:

Split Screen Co-op
-This seems to be a dying trend as more and more people would rather play online but nevertheless, people really miss this option.

Lots of things to do.
-Story can go in many different directions from watching a scene and having to input buttons (or not) and changing your direction of gameplay.

Factions
- for all those familiar with mag this game has factions
you can battle as you faction of choice trying to own the majority of and unlcok special things

items etc.
- this game has a system called slot machine where as you can use it to unlock weapons, abilities new looks, gestures and 'callsigns'

LVL99.
-that's right each character has the ability to level up to 99, and you can play as all factions.

GAMEPLAY
though as most Shooters now are, there's granadiers everywhere
which often spoils the fun but you can easily hone your skills.

competative modes
-ranked un ranked
alot of confusion here
ranked levels you and earns you career titles
unranked just levels you up.

game modes.
vs batlles
elimination
post grab
akrid egg

each of these can then be fine tuned even further

there are flaws in the game, but none to say this game is pointless it's not a shooter simulation.
blowing outta proportions arcade shooter = imense fun and something different.

Campaign 8/10 (co-op)
Campaign 6/10 (solo)
Online 9/10
Sound 8/10(dialogue could be better)
Graphics 9/10*

*seamless between gameplay and ingame FMV
