God Of War: Collection

this is a fantastic step by sony to rerelease ps2 games as every ps3 atm doesn't have backwards compatibility. i imported this game about a month ago. graphics are remastered to 720p and as its both games on one disk there are two trophy lists. i recently got both platinums. this is a must have for any GOW fan that can't play 1+2 on their ps3 or for new comers to the francise. 5/5

Having missed out on a 60Gb PS3 by a week, I'd been looking for ways to get PS2 games working on my PS3, and when I heard of this my mouth watered.

The games are exactly as they were on PS2, only remastered in glorious full-screen 1080p! And with Trophies. The Trophies are for the most part easily attainable, with no trophies for completing the games in God/Spartan mode for example, and the vast majority will be earnt simply by completing the game.

The graphics are smooth, and look great compared to the originals, but the character models don't appear to have been given a massive makeover, and can look a bit geometric in places. It would seem that only the game's engine has been tweaked to work on the PS3.

The in-game cinematics (which anyone who played these on PS2 will remember were superb) also appear to have been re-rendered to a higher resolution, as I saw no grainyness which I would have expected. However the game-engine cinematics do look a bit 'retro', and more like an upscaled PSOne title...

I picked this up on import from the US, and was lucky enough to get a GoW III Demo code included, but it appears that this will be released post GoW III in which case that code won't work if included, as the demo is only available to download with the codes until the release of GoW III.

All in all a must for Kratos fans who traded in their PS2's, or just can't wait to play the whole trilogy on PS3!

This is just the game all God of War aficionados just cannot miss out on. A fan of the hack-and-slash, action-adventure genre, I have been into this series since its first PS2 release back in 2005, when the game really represented an innovation in a genre that had hitherto been mostly limited to two-dimensional platform video-gaming and to a much limited assortment of three-dimensional ones.

In terms of graphics, the developing team from Santa Monica, California, has surely done a great job in porting the game over to the PS3, using anti-aliased graphics locked in at 60fps, and, therefore, adapting them to the demands of today`s gamers who are used to High-definition graphics . While the core games remain entirely untouched, and the animation, models are exactly the same as in their PS2 counterparts, the gameplay has been slightly improved. As I played both games on two different consoles, I have noticed that the gameplay here is a little smoother than it was on the older console system, probably because of the increased framerate which has significantly reduced the annoying screen-tearing. As a result, accompanying Kratos on his quest has never looked better! What is more, as it is now mandatory for all Playstation 3 releases, this collection comprises a trophy pack of 71 trophies between the two games, including a Platinum trophy for each game - an addition that will probably fulfil many gamers` wishes of seeing a version of their favourite game packed with trophies without having to wait for the third chapter of the game!

Naturally, this game was released as prospective chance for old gamers to brush up on the first 2 chapters before plunging themselves into the third mythological adventure of the series, but also for gamers who are new to the series (and believe it or not, a few of my mates just happen to be new to it!).

My personal recommendation to all fellow customers would be to get this game right away. However, the reason I have got this collection is that I no longer have the original PS2 core titles, so getting this re-mastered, high-definition version is my chance to add this gem to my collection. Also, notwithstanding the slightly improved gameplay and the high-definition rendition, PS2 owners who already have the original titles might well consider sticking with their original copies, as they won`t be finding any new addition in terms of story.

Having missed the God of War series when it was originally released on PS2, and being increasingly attracted to the forthcoming God of War III, I couldn't believe my luck when I heard that the first two games were going to be released on one Blu-Ray disc with updated HD visuals and (rejoice) trophy support.
Yes, we've had to wait months longer than the Americans to get our hands on this Collection, but it has been more than worth the wait. The game is brilliant.
Yes the graphics do look slightly dated on both (more noticeably on GOW) but this is to be expected as the game is now 5 years old. But its age is really what sets this apart. For a fairly antiquated release this is a real triumph, even today. The story is compelling, the character is brutal and the game play is engaging. The setting is mind blowing. The realms of Greek mythology are rife with ready-made stories yearning to be made into films / video games, and GOW encompasses most all of these to such fine results.
In game play GOW, summed up to its most base, idiotic form, is nothing more than a 'button-masher,' but it is by far one of the most deep and refined 'button-mashers' you will ever play. At first you'll be happy to just spam either of the two attack buttons, putting together flashy and devastating combos by luck, but a few hours in and you'll have mastered the combo system, unleashing hell at will.
Mix in platforming elements and some fiendishly complex puzzles and this title has you longing for the past. Too many games these days rely upon the simplicity and inane repetitiveness of FPS. It's a shame that there aren't more titles such as the GOW series going today.
The game isn't perfect. The save system will have you frustrated at times, though it adds to the challenge of the games, the save-points are too sporadic and inconsistent, you can often find two within footsteps of each other, and then find yourself waiting 30+minutes for the next, which is a major annoyance at times. Also, even though the games boast some of the most original and diverse enemy ranks in video-game history you will find yourself simply repeating the same tactics time and time again, which can grate. But those are both fairly minor issues which shouldn't deter you from this title.
At 17.99 this is a real bargain. Two full-retail games which simply changed the face of the gaming market that we know today. It really is a must buy.

I got this sent from America a while back. These are two really great games and they've been "remastered" into HD quality and they do look fantastic apart from the pre rendered cut scenes which don't look too great but that's only a minor detail. The quality could easily stand up to some newer PS3/360 games. Most of all I can't believe these games are only 18 pounds! Such a ridiculously good deal. Some parts of the game are quite hard to work out if you haven't played them before though.

Definitely worth buying!
