  Yakuza games are awesome...

| | See all Paula57's reviews (2)

Yakuza 3 is a breath of fresh air amongst all of the crap on PS3, it's a more obscure game as it is very Japanese and is more reminiscent of last gen.

The story, combat and overall feel of the game is great
Reccomended for any RPG/Adventure game fan as well as Japan enthusiasts.

  As stated not for everyone

I really wanted to like this game, the locations, characters & a building storyline kept me motivated for a while but the find & fetch quests started to drag, the requests from non player characters to be fed & taken to restaurants started to grate, especially the random requests to be fed again & again, the random fights apearing just when you want to get on with the main. I also had some difficulty identifying what shops, etc I should be going to to buy certain items due to difference between the east/west culture .Yet at the same time thisdivide was also one of the big pluses of the game (like Shenmue) just walking around and experiencing a digital Japan was a joy . If only I could have had a bit more time spent being a Yakuza and less time being a babysitter & tourist I might have continued to completion.

  stop typing & fight

| | See all mediro's reviews (30)

This game is so irritating at the beggining that it completelty wasted 20 minutes of gameplay that i could throw in somewhere else. The characters don't even talk, you hear nothing except an endless typing of dialogues at the bottom of your screen. You see more typing than fighting at the beggining. I would also be irritated if someone gave me this game for present or free. Total waste of time and money.

Not for everyone and not for me

The only reason I gave it 2 stars was for the graphics. The first 20 minute video annoyed me for starters and then when the game started(3 min fight) the graphics reminded me of a ps2. The typing letters on the bottom put the cherry on the cake. For a second I thought I was playing the second Monkey Island game on the atari. I traded this game the next day I got it. If you like very long videos and little fghting that will remind you of Streets of Rage on the megadrive i'll suggest this.

Has been an amazing game since the first one.

I really love this game, pretty much the whole concept of the game is not delivering stunning graphics nor a complex online experience, but delivering the story in both a witty and hilarious satyre especially in combat. I loved the very first one, played the second one for a bit and i can't wait for this one which i pre ordered. I have played the demo and as usual there are lots of bits and pieces of arcade games especially designed by sega to be a fun and enjoyable experience. For those people who got used to the flare of graphics, make sure you give this game's story a try, even though it's a lot of japanese segments with english subtitles, it'll be a fun and hilarious experience for those new to the genre.

  Outstanding game

Every time i mention this game, or see it being mentioned on the internet, the obligatory comparison to Shenmue or GTA gets bought up. In all honesty, those two games are not really anything like this, although it has SOME similarities to the former game, nothing gameplay wise, more like the setting and i suppose the freedom aspect. This game is its own world and has set up an amazing series of games with deep involving storyline.

Never played this before? Me neither, although watching the 25 odd minute re-cap videos for the first two games make me wish i had. They looked pretty damn good. Anyway, even if you are a new comer all you need to do is watch those videos. Naturally they dont explain every single aspect to the first two games in great detail, but you get the jist of where the story is at and whats going on in the third one. Its pretty nice they did that really, otherwise you'd be scowering on YouTube for an hour or so trying to find informative videos about it, either that or sit there for a long time watching a walkthrough or something.

The graphics are pretty nice, although they look like they could do with a bit of Anti-aliasing, there are quite a lot of jaggies on the models and objects, kinda lowers the lush look of the world a bit (although this looks like its been corrected on the 4th game). On the other hand the cinematic graphics are outstanding (think of Metal Gear Solid 4).

If you enjoy beat em' ups with a bit of free roaming adventure and heavy narrative and story, this is definitely worth the price, the length of the game feels pretty long and there is so much to do in the world that has been created. Actually cant wait for the 4th one to come out over here (if it ever does). Definitely worth your time.

Best RPG on PS3 and best in the series

| | See all Mikeytron's reviews (19)

First of all, please stop comparing this to GTA, this is nothing like it - this game has no comparison. Its essentially an RPG/brawler that completely wraps you up in Japanese culture and a truly compelling story line. This is a great step up from the first 2 in the series on PS2, the cities feel truly alive, with all the colour, sounds and people bustling about. This game has great quality mini games including, darts, pool, kareoke, card games, gambling games, baseball and a full on golf game!!! Im 24 hours in and only have a 22% completion rate. This game is fantastic, please give it a try. You don need to play the first 2 to get into it-they are both wrapped up into cut scene driven stories before you play. Good luck catching that elusive tuna....
