Definitely not a KO, but a game you still have to play...

Well, let me start off with the positives.

It has over 100 UFC fighters which is great. You get to choose between a heavyweight, a light heavyweight, a middleweight, a welterweight, and a lightweight. There are different moves for each fighter, but once you play with a lot of them, you soon realise that there isn't much of a difference. On a side-note, make sure you play with Brock Lesnar because he sure is damn fast for a big guy like him!

There are 12 categories I think for moves which range from Boxing to Muay Thai to Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jutsi. Player creation in this game is also not that bad, and you get to choose what tattoos you'd like your fighter to have and what set of different moves you want him to have.

Career starts off with you creating a fighter and giving him points for certain categories and lets you build him up to a world-known fighter for about 12 years. You get interviews and press conferences during the career and it does get annoying because they are repeated again and again and again, but these are beneficial for your fighter as it lets you gain more points for moves and sponsor bonuses. Even in-game, if you win some matches for let's say a number one contender match, Joe will speak to you at the end of the match and talk to you on how you did, reflect on the match and so on. Even this becomes so bloody annoying because it is repeated again and again. You can join camps and go online and learn new moves for your fighter.

Other modes in this game are quite dull and boring, like tournament mode and stuff. They're basically an exhibition match but you gain shop points so you can buy new things like tattoos and celebrations and so on.

The exhibition match is the only and probably the best mode in the whole game. The blood looks real but a little too pixelated at times and the moves are complex, but quite fun. The submissions are a pain in the backside because you will probably NEVER submit anyone. Literally, NEVER. Especialy against computer and if you fight against Frank Mir, bye-bye because he'll take you down and submit you, which is kind of stupid in my opinion because that's it, the match is over. There's nothing you can do to prevent the submission but rotating the right-stick, which does not help at all.

I have not even bothered with online because of the lags I've been hearing, so it's probably rubbish unless you're lucky enough to have a good connection with someone on the opposite side.

The in-game commentary is good, really good, but does get repeated a lot afterwards.

Overall, I would recommend this game when it gets cheaper. I'm only saying this because for money-wise, you're not getting a lot. However, if you are a fan of the UFC and MMA, then you will love this like I did. Eventually though, it does get boring and I soon sold my copy because it got boring. It's a fun game and a good one, but not that great, and definitely not the best UFC game to date. It'll be interesting to see what the EA have done with their MMA game, if it's good enough, maybe opt for that one, because that would be the better option. If however, you want a UFC game right now, then this is the game for you. It can offer you some fun and entertainment, but I honestly don't think it would last that long.

So overall, 3/5. UFC 2011 has to get better or they can just stop making these games because they are flopping. But anyway, it's an okay game if you want a UFC game. Otherwise, wait for EA's MMA game and get that one. Who knows, it could well as beat this game and be the best UFC/MMA game to date.

3/5 for this though.

Simply put this is better than 2009 with improvements such as cage gameplay and sub transitions but it is stil not perfect. The online stil has lag and the career mode is stil staring at a calendar. UFC fans should pick it up as it is the best UFC vidoegame on the market and for the 6 UFC fights on Blu-Ray but non-fans should definitely rent or try first

  GOOD BUT STILL HARD

ufc2010 is a great realistic fighting game, the graphics are excellent and the gameplay has improved from ufc2009.my only flaw with it is that it's still hard to beat, exhibition matches are fine it's the tournament modes, you can lose in seconds, not always a bad thing if your wanting realism.dont get me wrong i love this game but after losing time and time again it just begins to collect a little dust, but thats just my view, other than that it is an excellent game.

  Rent before buying

This game is very poor. Im a huge ufc fan, loved ufc 2009,however it just needed some minor tweaks to make it even better.....well 2010 has taken several steps backwards. The submissions have become impossible to do/get out of and you often find your fighter tapping after a couple of seconds. The whole online experience is same as before.you struggle to find a game....when you do its laggy as hell. The fault that saw people quitting mid fight when you were beating them is still there, and still you dont get awarded anything for their cheating.

The only positive in my opinion and why i give the game 2 stars is the amount of fighters that you can choose.

In short rent the game first or you may find yourself like me wasting 35.00pound on game that is just terrible. I will be trading mine!!!

  Bit of a letdown!!!

Im a massive fan of ufc and loved the old game but i think 2010 is a bit of a joke. The submissions are impossible to attempt and to escape. Online is very jumpy and glitchy and apparantly wont be fixed for some time, the main reason i bought the game.

On the plus side graphics are great and so is variaty of fighters. This is a definate trade in.

  Great game but some flaws

| | See all maiden's reviews (4)

Being new to the UFC I decided to get this game to help me to learn more about the UFC. However the game doesn't teach you when to use certain moves and how best to use them. But after a while you do start to pick it up. The graphics are solid and there are a huge range of fighters here. I agree with other reviews that the submissions are unfair and difficult to pull off. Also its hard to build a great alround fighter in carrer mode because your points decrease. This would be fine if it wasn't for the fact that as you progress you need to be more well rounded to win. But the good out weighs the bad and the PS3 exclusive figthers and fights make up for it. The fights are in full 1080p and include two awesome fights in Liddel vs Silva from UFC 79 and Griffin vs Bonner from the Ultimate Fighter. Overall solid game just some flaws stop it from being great alround.

  Great Game although submissions

| | See all gavsav4's reviews (1)

This is a fantastic game and fighting techniques are really really realistic. except..... the submissions are awful it is extremely difficult to get out of submissions outside beginner and it is just as difficult to accomplish a submission yourself. although would recommend buying it as there is no other game out there like it ****

  Challenge?

The biggest problem many people will find with this game is the lack of instruction and direction - they will not be guided in how to play the game, what moves do the most damage or how to get into particular situations to perform certain moves; as such many people will not get into the game.
However, if time and effort is put into actually learning the game and developing your skills and creating a way for yourself to play, then this game will start to open up. This game isn't one of those you can just pick up and be a master at straight away; you may pick it up and take no time at all in getting to grips with the strikes and perhaps the standing grapples, but it will take considerable time to master all the moves and submissions and even longer to master all the different fighters and styles.
Despite solely being a fighting game I feel that this game has a lot of depth and a lot to offer - that is providing you have the patience and give it some time.

  Better the 2009

This is alot better then the last and even tho its not the easiest game out its far from as hard as the other reviewer says about getting out of submissions, maybe an old super nes game might be more on his level LOL
