Developed by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security "home" for all of Gotham City's thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds.

Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.

  • Batman: Arkham City is the follow-up to the award-winning hit video game Batman: Arkham Asylum and delivers an authentic and gritty Batman experience
  • Become the Dark Knight: Batman: Arkham City delivers a genuinely authentic Batman experience with advanced, compelling gameplay on every level: high-impact street brawls, nail-biting stealth, multifaceted forensic investigation, epic super-villain encounters and unexpected glimpses into Batman's tortured psychology
  • Advanced FreeFlow combat: Batman faces highly coordinated, simultaneous attacks from every direction as Arkham's gangs bring heavy weapons and all-new AI to the fight, but Batman steps it up with twice the number of combat animations and double the range of attacks, counters and takedowns
  • New gadgets: Batman has access to new gadgets such as the Cryptographic Sequencer V2 and Smoke Pellets, as well as new functionality for existing gadgets that expand the range of Batman's abilities without adding extra weight to his Utility Belt
  • New story: Five-time Emmy-Award-winner Paul Dini returns to pen a brand-new story for Batman: Arkham City, taking gamers deep inside the diseased heart of Gotham
  • Arkham has moved: Following the closure of Arkham Asylum and Blackgate prison, Gotham's new mayor, Quincy Sharp ordered the relocation of all inmates to Arkham City - a sprawling new super-prison five times bigger than Arkham Island, enclosing a wide variety of industrial districts, iconic locations and Gotham landmarks
  • Huge cast of characters: Players encounter numerous characters from the Batman universe, including Catwoman, Two-Face, Harley Quinn, Hugo Strange, Victor Zsasz, Calendar Man, The Joker, The Riddler and other iconic characters yet to be revealed
  • Play as Catwoman: Players will have a chance to indulge in their darker side and explore Arkham City as the infamous feline femme fatale. Complete with her own storyline in the main game, Catwoman's adventure complements Batman's central role and is seamlessly interwoven with his main story arc. She will also be playable in the challenge maps with her own unique combat moves, gadgetry and signature 'takedowns'
  • Featured voice over talent: Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy reprise their roles as The Joker and Batman respectively

Arkham city is quite an acheivement for any Batman fans of both modern comic stories and animated films to Batman of old and current movies there are so many little touches and secrets to discover that just delight.

Gameplay it is all very similar to Arkham Asylum a nice blend of combat, stealth and travelling in Batman style with subtle improvements from before. The story starts with a bang a can be a bit overwhelming at 1st but things quickly and expertly take shape.

Aside from the main story plot there are several side missions involving characters from the Batman universe, unlike most games these dont feel like bolted on additional bits for the sake of making the game last longer but add genuine depth and value to the story and game. They are also enjoyable and not a bit tedious.

Returning from Arkham Asylum are the riddler challenges and trophies along with the inclusion of some hostage situations, these prove considerably more challenging this time around making full use of all your skills and gadgets to complete.

There is so much to discover that once you complete the game aside from side missions and riddler challenges so I implore you to take the opportunity to look online to see any easter eggs and in game secrets you missed, stay to the end of the credits for a hint of what may happen in the future.

Anybody buying the collectors edition will not be disappointed the statue is well made and the bonus content is great.

 Best superhero game to date

This is hands down the best superhero game that has been made to date, the freedom element works extremely well and the dark snowy setting looks visually fantastic.

There is so much to do outside the campaign, there are quite a lot of side missions - some are only one mission long and others go on for longer. I dont want to give anything away but one mission has you simply fighting some waves of enemies and then another has you trying to locate a killer by tracking his phonecalls across the city.

Then there is also all the riddler trophies and the riddles, there are hundreds of trophies set across the game and some can only be collected once you have the relevant gadgets like in Arkham Asylum.

Another reviewer mentioned you have to play as Catwoman, this is true however her missions aren't very long and how long you spend playing as her outside these missions is entirely up to you.

If you played Arkham Asylum you will find the controls and gadgets are pretty much the same but with a few small tweaks like the added ability to glide across the city.

As for Batman not being able to swim - the guy has hundred of pounds (weight not money) attached to him in the form of his suit and all the equipment he carries on his tool belt - i would love to see anyone swim comfortably with all of that crap on them!

I've spent a lot of time exploring Arkham City and doing side missions and have probably spent 2 hours on the campaign, so far i have not lost interest in this game in any shape or form. The campaign has some new characters thrown in and some appearances from those who were in Arkham Asylum.

Do yourself a favour and buy this game now!

Well, let me open this up with the these facts. I'm NOT a Batman fan, I (used to) think that he was the most irritating 'Super-hero' ever, never thought he was accounted as a Superhero because he didn't have powers, Hero maybe but not Super. I have the previous game, I haven't beaten it and I haven't played it for months, not that it isn't good it's just not great for me.

EVERYTHING changed with this game. I brought the game on the 21st Oct (Release) and I beat it Wednesday 26th Oct, this is because it because addictive and I literally had to try beat it, I had it set on easy so I can challenge myself later on but nevertheless certain missions were hard to complete, challenging to say the least.

This is one Batman game that you should definitely get, the story is amazing and definitely follows the previous game, Arkham Asylum which you should also play to get a feel for this game. The visuals of the game are just as good, if not greater, than the story, everything about it just so planned out, I absolutely loved each and every bit of the game, except one.

Catwoman. Don't get me wrong, obviously it's a Batman game and it's not like they're going to make an individual game for certain characters (so I don't know what the review about it being a Batman game has to do with playing as other character or whatever), but I mainly brought the game for her. She's personally my favorite character, she has a good story line but literally 4 levels are hers, and that's not very many out of the how many levels you play as Batman, especially since you need a code to unlock Catwoman. I felt restricted by her movements when climbing walls and stuff, it wasn't as free as I've have liked which didn't give me the freedom I was expecting with her, I was expecting so much more. Hence why I gave it four stars (five if it was like this or if I only enjoyed Batman's area, just felt a little, not greatly, let down by this.)

That is literally my only downfall to the game, not a lot of trouble with it just my personal opinion. However, that shouldn't stop you getting the game whether Catwoman, Robin or Batman is your favorite. The fighting is amazing also.

I hope they put more into the next one, if they make one, and I hope more is put into Catwoman if she's included and playable!
