Despite of the fact that some "old school" fans dislike this game, I love it. I'm not from the time of FF VII tho, but I started to follow the saga on the 10th. With this said, I love this game so much.

Final Fantasy XIII, for me it's one of the best games ever! I loved the experience, the gameplay, the graphics and the boss fights (although they might be extremely difficult, even in Normal).

The story is beautiful and had an amazing plot twist... which I loved. And is countered with the fact that it's linear.

The soundtrack is stunning and characters where extremely well built. Their emotions and back stories.

--- The collectors edition is pretty "boooo"... nothing special about it. Just an artbook, some cards, a sticker and a soundtrack cd. ---

The worst in the franchise, but...

This is the first FF game that I have brought and I have to say it is one of the best games I have played this year so far (its gonna take some beating). The graphics are some of the best I have seen on any console, the difference between the CGI cutscences and the in-game engine is minimal, there were countless times when I didn't even now which was which.

Sound is brilliant, from the music to the footsteps of the characters, you really get lost in the FF world, in a good way. I think I have found a new love in videogames and this is it, I'm so glad that I went with my instinct and brought this game because it is an absolute gem. If you have never played the FF series before then I recommend you give this ago because, I'm pretty sure that you will in no way be disappointed, I know I'm not.

On the Limited Edition: The extras that are included with the LE are of a real high quality and a great edition to brilliant game.

I would also strongly recommend the strategy guide with this because some battles can become very difficult, but with the help from the guide it just makes the experience all the more sweeter.

in looking at trailers for this game i didnt know what to expect but ive gotta say this is the best game i have ever played. the graphics are the best to date and the locations are stunning. music is breathtaking too. the character development was fantastic as the sort of went back too ff10 sphere grid but even easier. battle system was fantastic and so where the characters. story is superb and gameplay is incredible. even when you finish the game theres lots you can do theres missions, you can keep challenging the last boss and go back for trophies. definately buy this game you will not be dissapointed final fantasy 13 is awesome =)

  A Big Improvement

I havn't quite completed it yet but it has been a huge improvement on final fantasy 12.
After final fantasy 12 I was losing faith in the final fantasy series being a fan of the series for 15 years now and now final fantasy 13 has restored my faith.
It has gorgeous graphics both in game and cut scenes, a nice balance of real time and turn based action and a story that at times can be a little slow but if you get through that you will come to love the game.
Finally the new experience system is quite good and seems to be a huge improvement on final fantasy 10's sphere grid system
All in all i was personally extremely happy with final fantasy 13 and cannot wait for the next game in the final fantasy series

Collectors edition review - Fairly standard

This is just a review of the special edition contents, will review the game seperately in its own section.

The collectors edition of FFXIII consists of what now seems to be the standard selection of extras, giving you an art book a music cd with a selection of tracks from the game.

The cd has some nice tracks, but only holds a few pieces of a huge selection of tracks, so its a shame they could not add a few more to the selection.

The artbook is fairly standard. Its mostly comprised of stills taken directly from the game itself, there are only a few, if any pieces of actual artwork.

The other items that come with it are ok. A trio of art card, each one is double-sided, giving you a seperate image of the main cast and their summons. A nice touch, though I was surprised that we didnt get these in the art-book itself.

Along with these, you get a 'decal', basically a sticker. Its based on the mark that the main cast have on their body.

Overall, the items if the collectors edition a fairly standard. They are good, but not great. If you like some extras, im sure this will be for you.

Being a fan of final fantasy all my life and growing up playing the series, i had hoped this installment would be an excellent game, but was heavily dissapointed .. It's kept little traditional aspects that made the games great, and is so linear it makes the game boring, no sidequests, no towns .. the battle system is a fail in my opinion. I REALLY dont see why they had to change so much from the final fantasy vii system .. To further my dissapointment, there are no limit breaks, or even a classic level up system!! ... For me final fantasy vii was the best in the series, and still remains the same. It is untouchable .. Ever since Square Enix have taken over Squaresoft there is yet to be another good final fantasy game. Its all well and good making the graphics breathtaking, but where is the final fantasy excellence?

  A brilliant new challenge

This game has been a long time coming, Square Enix have made fans wait and have teased for years with E3 trailers and the like. At first I thought they were just being mean! Though, now even at a first glimpse, it's easy to see where that time waiting has been spent. Every single detail has clearly been carefully considered, every element has obviously been a labour of love.
It's clear from the outset that where it's predecessors have shown flaws or caused frustration, FFXIII has provided answers.
If you have never seen Advent Children, then you may not appreciate the breathtaking graphics Square Enix are capable of and FFXIII is a perfect showcase of how well the latest generation of consoles have been used to their full advantage. In short, the graphics are outstanding and in-game can rival the cut scenes of most.
As for gameplay, I feel this game is capable of attracting a far wider audience than any predecessor in the series. This is largely down to the new battle system. The Paradigm system is the most PS3 controller claw inducing thing outside of mash the pad beat-em-ups and it is not easy to master by a long stretch. Designed to be slick and fast, this will test anyone, even the die hard FF fans and hardcore gamers. Personally I feel the decision to concentrate the players attention mostly on one team member is brilliant. You still need to consider your team mates and control their actions by a large extent by choosing their roles but by severing the requirement to pick each individual action by each individual team member, the fighting experience becomes a very sleek, painless affair. You don't have to wait for each member's turns! Wonderful!
One of my personal gripes with the game is the absence of Nobuo Uematsu, who composed the music for many of the series intallments. His absence by no means takes away from the game, but some of the big plot moments could have connected with the audience better with his contribution.
I would recommend playing this game on the Playstation 3 if you have the option to avoid the compression and disc changes.
The Limited Collector's Edition provides some perks to keep the hardcore fans happy, especially the addtiion of the soundtrack selection CD, however, I feel that for the extra money, Square Enix would have done well to include something a little extra, such as exclusive download content like themes to brighten your screens. I would keep my recommendation of paying the extra to the people who spend more time breeding chocobos than outside in the big wide world, if you don't know what a chocobo is, move over the standard editions. Still buy it though, it's awesome!
