Been playing the Beta to this game and i'm liking it better than the last SOCOM game that was on the PS3 and i liked that one two ;-) but this time it feels a lot better in every way plus the control lay out works better too and the weapons feel and sound better,so if you take into account that this is the BETA that i've been playing things can get even better if thats possible because what i'm playing might not be the finished game but i doubt they would change much this close to the launch date,go get it as you won't be disappointed as there is going to be a single player game as well as a multi-player game this time around unlike last time as that was just multi-player.
I have also played the beta and my review is as follows. This is not a classic Socom game. It is about as efficient a shooter as Kane and Lynch.
I think 'quickthumbs' thinks he's in a classroom. YAWN!
Seriously, this game is great. People are basing this on the beta demo alone. It's obvious you aren't gonna experience the entire thing from this.
Right, this plays very well. It's smooth, and well put together. It's not gonna feel like the old socom games because they were on a different platform and nowadays people expect much more. This game IS Socom. It isn't about running around all guns blazing but very much tactical approach to taking down the enemy. Like I say, you can't really judge just yet as the game isn't out, but seriously, from what I have played it is shaping up to be fab. Combine this game with PS move, the sharpshooter attachment and a big widescreen TV and you have a great night in! Buy it from PLAY to get great service and a nice little pre-order bonus!
The campaign and Multiplayer modes are fantastic, The campaign has got quite a good story to it and gameplay is excellent. - 10/10
On the good side we have the multiplayer- it's a good tactical shooter with plenty of game modes to choose from, it'll take a while for this to get boring. Didn't get to see a huge amount due to psn going down, but what there is was spot on.
On the bad side we have the single player - tedious and definitely not tactical! move from A to B killing off the doom like wave of enemies. Watch as your squad yet again gets wounded, or gets in your way if you don't command them where to go. Multiple headshots to kill enemies and repetitive missions make this a chore to complete. Socom has always been an online experience so i would stick to that, it's worth it.
** UPDATE: Having now played this game extensivley online, i would say stick to COD! I hate to say it but this is no tactical shooter! spawn camping and spawn sniping, no team work and the usual idiots make this a poor 3rd person shooter.
