Maybe one of the best games I have ever played.

Everything about this game oozes excellence from its story, gameplay, character developement, graphics, beautiful realised cities and everything in between.

Its story partly stems from the first Mass Effect that I haven't had the privilage to play, but does have its own story for its second outing. The story is fairly simple, with an Alien race called the Collectors abducting off World human colonies and using them for their own personal gain. Theres alot more to the story narrative as you play through the game, that I won't spoil here.

Now onto the port that the game has been given, if someone had told me that the game was made primarily using the PS3 hardware I would believe them. It's better looking than its Xbox 360 cousin, due to the new Mass Effect 3 engine that is being used. The Blu-ray disc really helps to push out a very asthetically pleasing game.

The music of course is still superb, with most of the composition undertaken by Jack Wall, who also worked on the first Mass Effect. It may not be as ethereal and dramtic as the first soundtrack, but its definetly a dabatable subject.

The character developement, is something very unique that really makes you have an understanding of the characters on a personal and emotional level, it's difficult to find a game that induces the viewer/player with emotions so seamlessly which Bioware have achieved triumphantly.

I could write so much more positives about this game, but I don't want to take away more of your time, which could be spent on playing Mass Effect 2; one of the best games of this generation.

There was one negative about the game, but isn't particularly about the game per se. It's not quite the definitive version as it could have been, with not all of the DLC already on the disc, you do have to download most of it. That is the only negative that I can find about the game, which pretty much says it all really.

  Another Epic from Bioware!

When it come to RPGs we must stand in awe at the sheer amount of masterpeices Bioware has manged to produce over the years. From Baldur's Gate in the late nineties as well as Starwars Knights of the Old Republic and Neverwinter Nights in the early noughties Bioware had already produced a standard of RPG gameing that nearly no one could compete with. Now with magnificent accomplishments that are Dragon Age and Mass Effect we have been graced with someting truly awesome. Two Brand new fanstasy concepts with no equal.

Mass Effect has Combined the alien diversity which is present in halo, the exciting fighting style, which appers in gears of war as well as a story which is better then the harry potter books, to make a epic tale of Friendship, War, Honour, Love and loyalty. Mass Effect brings a depth of literature not equaled in other games, and is a wash with fictional history, about humans, aliens and even planets. It is turly brilliant game and worth the price tag!

  A must have!

Such a brilliant game! I decided to try out this game after playing Dragon Age: Origins, also by Bioware, and although I don't want to compare the two, I have to say Mass Effect 2 is my favourite overall. The story is compelling and the characters so diverse and individual; Bioware do this so well. Definitely get this game before ME3 comes out, and don't fret if you haven't played ME1, I hadn't and still understood everything perfectly. So far, this is my favourite game by a mile on the PS3!

  Bioware are at it again

I hadn't played the first ME and at first I didn't really understand the big picture but that gets cleared up as you play. I love this game, its kept me from leaving my room for hours and I don't care because I completely forget what's going on in the real world because its just so deep and there's so much going on, I cant wait for Bioware's latest in dragon age and mass effect, if you have doubts, don't; it will be worth it.

It's taken a year to arrive on the PS3 but it's worth the wait in every way.

An alien horde is practicing genocide against the human race and only Commander Shepard can stop them. Brought back from the grave by a clandestine organisation and given free roam of the galaxy in the awesome Normandy spacecraft, you will uncover countless plots, recruit an incredible cast of characters and then finally take the fight to the insidious Reapers.

This game has too many plus points to list! The graphics and presentation are top notch. Character interaction is indepth and always entertaining and the third person action works faultlessly. The fact that your AI controlled squad mates are actually useful in combat is also a rare achievement in itself. If you are after an addictive adventure game that combines shooting action with an impressive cast and superior story telling, then look no further.

A thorough play through took 70 plus hours and I'm ready to go again. The story contains so many choices and variations that a second completion could be very different from the first.

The game is a riot of thrilling and atmospheric missions and the epic journey draws you in and refuses to let go. In short few games can compare and I would consider it an essential purchase.

(And if you find yourself stuck as to what class to choose, be an Infiltrator with the assasin cloak and Widow sniper rifle. You'll be very glad you did.)

  Comparing the to 360 version

| | See all Pgough's reviews (5)

Being a huge fan of the mass effect series i brought the ps3 verson as soon as it came out.

Now Mass Effect 2 is a Five Star game and in my opinion the best game of all time but the PS3 version has alot of faults.

All the cutscenes have synching errors, loading times are much longer and its expensive considering Game had Mass Effect 2 on the 360 in the sale for a fiver.

Either wait for the game to come down in price or wait until they fix the countless amount of Bugs that are on the ps3 and not the 360
