this is a great game. The only problem i have is that the "game guide" is NOT a full game guide, it is just a sample of the full thing...all you get is a code to download a digital copy of a small portion of the full game guide, and it states in the description that it is a "game guide for full and veteran players", this is a total LIE do not expect much from it

  Tough Loving.

Dark Souls will push you to your gaming limits but if you can stomach the beatings this game will no doubt dish up, you will get a big reward. Dark Souls improves on Demons Souls in nearly every way with much improved fluidity in the control system and easier access to weapons and abilities on the fly. Yes the rumors are true, Dark Souls is tough as nails but its never cheap. If you use the correct strategy you will succeed...but you will need to use the correct strategy against EVERY enemy you come across! The game looks great and has a nice variety of environments and monsters. The bosses are awesome and each one will leave an impression on you and youll be dazzled and infuriated in equal measure. The Dark Souls universe is actually very fascinating but unfortunately you can only piece together bits of information about it here and there from brief conversations from various NPCs. I suppose though, that this adds to the games mistique and intrigue. If you had the heart to beat Demons Souls, free up some time and play this but if you just want a pick up and play....do not!

  Slow, boring grind fest.

I bought this game after seeing loads of videos on youtube. Thought to give it a try. Especially because I liked combat system in this game. But after more than 10 h in the game my interest went downhill pretty fast. Here's why :

- people complained about bosses in this game but to be honest once you know how to kill them its pretty straight forward and easy. I killed Bell Gargoyles alone and in my second try. Using only melee combat. But annoying thing is not bosses but every other creature in this game that is without mercy for you. Plus they can still kill you through walls ( if they swing their sword and you are standing on the other side of the wall then you will get damaged. )

- Grind Grind Grind. You will spend most of your time getting those souls to level up. Which is frustrating and it takes away HUGE amount of entertainment. It feels more like chores or work to do.
And to top that up you need souls to buy things and repair things. I just can't spend that much time just to get to another level. Boring.
It should be "level up" as you go.

- No manual. You will never know where to go and what to do. Just wander aimlessly to look for hidden treasures and to kill bosses. On top of that there is no tutorial what should you do so expect to look in the net often. Some people like to discover things and just explore. But in this case it takes atmosphere out of the game. Very little story telling. Skyrim has way better story telling than this game.

- Open world. Non existent. Sure it looks huge but its limited by walls, mountains etc. So in the end you will feel like in never ending TUNNEL. It is very similar to Fable 3. Where you go from one location to another. Except the loading screens.

- Very hard to join your friends game. You have to be at the same server and at the same location, level. No voice chat... Fail.

Overall I had a very boring dull experience with this game. I'm not going to recommend this game to anyone who have "Life" lol. But if you like to die and loose your "money" quite often or if you like to "level" up for HOURS then grab yourself a copy.

One of the best games i ever played

I bought Demon Souls a couple of months ago based on the good reviews it received. I started playing it and died several times by the first monsters you challenge, I was getting so annoyed and nearly gave up. I finally managed to get into the game and I was hooked!

So when I finished Demon Souls, I had to play Dark Souls straight away. You kind of get thrown into the game without too many explanations and what to do, I kept dying and my frustration nearly made me stop playing the game, but since this had happened with Demon Souls, I decided to give it another go. It took me a while, but afterwards I wasn't able to stop playing.

The graphics are amazing, but it's the gameplay and the challenges that make it one of the best games out there for the ps3. The multiplayer side of the game is unique, you can summon other players to help you out, or your game can be invaded by other players.

For those who say this game is too difficult, give it another go!

  Beautiful,amazing..........HELLISH !

This game is as unforgiving as games of 25 years ago(3 lives to COMPLETE a game, ring any bells ?...or am I getting old ?),but with amazing graphics and atmosphere.
Dark Souls is very similar to Demons Souls right down to the control method and layout. Its an evolution of Demons Souls idea's rather than a revolution. As Demons Souls is in my top 5 of games of all time, that's no bad thing. The game has no music in it but bags of atmosphere, with a decent surround sound system you can practically feel the wind on you're back or enemies breath on you're neck. The enemies are always lethal, even the early ones you can kill with one swing of you're sword later in the game when you have been levelling up like mad.Complacency and confidence are the problem, you take an extra swing when you should really have retreated or used you're shield...then that's it,a 15 min trek to get back to where you were before you thought you were "The Man" and got spanked. The bosses in this game are easily on par with Demons Souls, but the main difference is this game has no hub area. The whole world is as open and expansive as a console game will get this generation. You open shortcuts to other areas when area boss is defeated and/ or you acquire a key,People have rightly commented (a LOT)on the games difficulty. This game is not you're pick up and play sort of game,it requires you to invest a lot of time and commit enemy attacks to memory. The game does suffer from slight slow down in certain areas(Blight town mainly),but this is not game breaking. The sheer number of upgrades for weapons and armour does boggle the mind, but with the help of darksouls.wikidot you will get there.
As the tag line for the game say's "You will DIE"......................................just an awful lot !!!!!!!

  Don't miss this game!

It's simply amazing. From the very first steps it had me hooked. I've now played around 30 hours, and I feel like I'm just getting started. The gameplay and the controls are fantastic, and the atmosphere is intense. Some of the boss fights are very memorable, albeit frustrating at times due to the difficult nature of the game. Although it's hard, the game never feels impossible. It's all about knowing your enemies and their moves, and finding an effective way to counter them. Often this involves numerous fails and deaths, which is something the creators of the game definately intended, they even put it on the cover of the game: Prepare to die!

I was not sure if I would like Dark Souls at first because of all the deaths and the high difficulty level. This is not normal among new game titles today, and certainly nothing I'm used to. I'm very happy I took the chance though, and I have not regret a single minute playing this game. The sheer joy of beating a boss after countless attempts makes everything worth while. You also get rewarded in terms of new and better equipment and treasures, along with the much needed Souls that you need for buying stuff and levelling up.

If you're looking for a great, challenging and deep roleplaying game for your ps3 look no further! Dark Souls is what you should be playing for the next few months. I cannot recommend this game highly enough. 5/5 stars!

One of the best games i have ever played. Its not for the weak of heart. you will die quite alot, but the more you die the more you learn not to die. The controls are excellent and the combat is solid. My personal favorite part of the game is the atmosphere. Its bleak and unforgiving and completly draws you in. You will lose sleep planning your way through difficult sections of the world in your head. buy this game!
