This device allows you to transfer your saved game data from PS2 games to your PS3.

Please note that this device only works with the standard 8MB PS2 Memory Card.

As stated from 20/5/07 the new firmware version makes this a 2 way coping device so is a must have. Yes it is a official PS3 product and importantly will only copy 8Mb memory cards, so if you kept all your game saves on a large non-sony memory card on your ps2 you will not be able to move them over without copying to an 8mb card first (although it worked on both my Sony and Madcatz 8Mb cards)

     A necessity

Please ignore the previous reviews as the majority of the complaints concerning the adapter are redundant. Sony released the latest update for the PS3 which allows you to copy ps2/psone saves back to a memory card. So you can transfer them back and forth. I.E the PS3 can store all your saves which can be easily copied to a memory card when you're off to a friends house or need to play an unsupported game. Up until none it was a one-way deal. Great stuff.

     Does work with PS1 cards

Just to let you know that I bought this card from here and it is the OFFICIAL adapter. Not a 3rd party one, and that the back of the box says that it DOES work with PS2 or PS1, unlike the other card sold here which is confirmed to work only with PS2 cards. So buy this one. It works fine as well. Only snag is that data can only be copied from the memory card to the PS3, not the other way round. Other than that, its good stuff

     Great peice of kit.

I bought this to back up my precious Metal Gear Solid saves onto the PS3's hard drive.

However, you're only going to use this thing once, once your PS1 and PS2 game saves are on your PS3's console you'll have no need to use this again. I wish Sony made another way you could put your game saves onto your PS3.

Why did I give it 5/5 then? Well, the simple answer is because it's an official Sony product and the build quality is what you'd expect from Sony, the price isn't bad either for something you'll probably only use once.

The packaging for the product isn't the usual Sony all plastic type stuff you virtually have to destroy it all to get into, it comes in a cardboard box which you can open very easily. So when you have used this in theory you could just sell it on Play if you wish.

Of course, you can transfer back and forth to official Sony PS1 and PS2 (maybe others like Mad Catz) memory cards, but in my situation I'm only going to use this product once, and I think other people will be in that boat too.

     save those precious files!

I always thought that the ps3 could have just had a slot for the old ps2 memory card, but unfortunately it doesn't... so when people noticed that, Sony (and a few other companies) swiftly made these adapters.

I felt it absolutely necessary to buy one of these so i could save all of my beloved save game files to my ps3.

the product itself is just a little bit bigger than the memory card itself, and simply connect via usb. you turn your ps3 on, go to your memory card settings and copy every file over just like that. It's incredibly simple, and easy to do!

it's a little pricey though, considering you are only going to use it once... so if you can, try and borrow a friends adapter, use it and then give it back. that'll save you the expense of buying it yourself, and waiting for it in the mail ^_^
