At first glance this appears to be an above average movie tie-in, with lush graphics and top notch presentation, however extended play reveals unresponsive controls, poor camera issues and an unengaging storyline.
The world of Avatar is incredible, with detailed flora & fauna making you believe you are fully immersed in the Avatar jungle. (apparently this game also boasts 3D graphics but you would need to have the type of TV capable of showing these). The jungle can be over detailed at times as it causes some frame rate issues at times.
You have the choice at the beginning of playing as either the marine (ie a standard shoot em up game) or the blue inhabitants, the Navi's (ie a standard platformer).
I found my attention waning the more I played and although there were momnets that lifted it slightly (like when you drive the vehicles) I found the controls too unresponsive to truly enjoy the game.
All in all, there IS fun to be had here, and if you could snap this up cheaply I would say go for it, but in the plethora of top games released at Christmas there are better titles out there more deserving of your cash.
got this game for xmas and wasnt too sure what to expect, but as soon as i put it in i was pleasantly surprised.
The graphics are pretty good, and the gameplay also very enjoyable.
lots to do fly space craft, boats etc.. controls pretty responsive and the game is fairly easy to pick up straight away.
4/5 is a pretty fair reflection on the game, just not enough wow factor as there isnt any thing not seen before in this title.
defo worth a look
Avatar the game is quite unique. The overall game is huge covering all Pandora's regions and is very fun to explore. The gameplay is generally good however I feel its better when you're playing as the Na'vi. When shooting guns or bows it gives a view over the right shoulder and cuts of your view on your left which is a concern but a minor one. The graphics are great which make the landscape look even more stunning. There is good value for money as there are two stories (RDA & Na'vi) both of which take up to 20 hours to complete so it will take a long time to finish the entire game. There are a variety of faces to choose from for your character so everyone won't look the same. The in-game weapons are big in number and very fun to use as is the armour. The creatures and vehicles you can ride and drive are very nice e.g. an Ikran which is like a flying dragon.
Overall Avatar is a good game but with a few tweaks here and there it could be a great one. 4/5.
After seeing the visual spectacle of the movie i decided to try this.
It has a lot of the atmosphere from the film with recognisable sets and ships / scenery etc.
Pandora is well animated and looks lush and colourful and the mood is spot on.
Gameplay wise it is ok with pretty much go here, do this, collect that, shoot this, shoot that style mechanics...........basic but solid.
Where it is not so hot is the character models, they look shoddy..........Sigourney looks about 90!!!!!!!.........and quite basic, also the voice acting is well dodgy...........think Resident Evil 1 school of acting!!!!!!!!
Online is pretty good with a lively community at the moment and some good COD style levelling up of weapons etc.
Overall a solid but not stellar attempt at a movie tie -in.
Overall the graphics are disappointing. The whole thing seems to run in a massive delay, there are frequent stalls in the panning in the camera and.or the soundtrack and the whole thing seems like it's too much for the system. The controls are cumbersome and not responsive as you need them to be at times when there is a big shoot out. In its genre it is a pretty weak game with many many other titles being far more value for money. At the current price of 14.99 it would be a good buy but if you got stung for the full amount nearer the time of release then the game is simply not worth it.
