Race Driver: Grid is all about the race - that period from lights to flag; full of tension, pressure, noise, and action.

Grid will take players to beautifully realised and dramatic race locations over three continents to compete in an unprecedented variety of racing events. Packed with the most powerful race cars - new and classic, circuit and drift - players will compete to conquer the most prestigious official race tracks and championships and then go beyond to compete in challenging city-based competitions, through to road events and urban street races.

In Europe, race gamers will compete on the greatest official tracks in prestige Marques including Aston Martin, Koenigsegg and Pagani. Iconic cities across the U.S. - including San Francisco, Washington DC and Detroit and each with their own atmosphere and events - play hosts to diverse street races. In the Far East, Japanese racing culture sets the tone where night races, including Drift racing, take drivers through neon illuminated cities and to outlying mountain roads.

     A 'smashing' game!

My main gripe with the Gran Turismo series of games is the lack of car damage (and personally I'm more of an 'arcade' than a 'simulation' racer). This game fills the gap between GT and the Burnout series of games which has, in my view, leaned too far towards being a 'sandbox style' game (vis-a-vis GTA). A thoroughbred racer with well designed tracks (most virtual representations of real life circuits) and all the cars that I as a young boy used to dream of driving (now lumbered with a Vauxhall Corsa - practical but without punch - there's a reason that didn't make the cut for this game!). If you want a solid racing game that provides a multitude of different styles (Track, Drift, Formula and Derby) this is the one for you. None of the nonsense of having to drive around looking for a race and a lot easier to get to grips with when all you want to do is start having fun - the best all-round next-gen racing game released to date marred only by the lack of split-screen multiplayer.

Aint Got Nothing On Gran Turisimo - Demo Review

I found this game annoyingly unrealistic. You could literally fly around corners and by the 3rd corner you were in the lead and you could crash about 6 times before the other racers could catch up. The handling on the cars is so unrealistic you barely have to break to go round corners and was very violent, like you move the anolouge stick to the left and your car has violently swerved off course. Ok i did like the damage which Gran Turisimo doesen't have but there is an update for it soon and i find myself picking stunning graphics, realistic driving experience over damage on cars. Gran Turisimo is far better, much more realistic, this is more of a casual gamer type of game where as Gran Turisimo is more of a simulator for the true gamer who wants a real racing game that is realistic. DEMO BASED REVIEW, but i dought the real game will be any better.

What all racing games should be like - Step up GT5!!

My first impression of Grid is how similar to DiRT it is; being a Codemasters title the menus and general feel of the game is very similar and the graphics too are equally as stunning as the rally sim. The campaign mode is recreated similarly with US, Euro and Japanese racing events for you to compete in, but only when you've earned the entry fee. Everything is recreated in such detail but as you fly past at 200 mph it all becomes a blur as the game also runs so smoothly. To start with the controls are only slightly tricky to get the hang of; but this is the beauty of Grid- it's a proper racing sim. You have to break or you will crash. You have to go easy on the throttle if you drift onto the grass on European circuits or you will spin. Take care with turning the traction control off too as you will almost certainly spin (I struggled to make it to the first bend (honestly)). DiRT was you against teh clock off-road. This takes the same racing experience onto the track against real competitors who will nudge, bump and force you fof the road. You can't just use opponents as stoppers either into that final corner as you'll write yourself off and not earn any money.

The US muscle events are fantastic with no room for error on the tight streets of San Francisco and other cities. The European circuit racing is excellent with genuine feedback from swaying off the track , even slightly, and losing traction. The drifting is a bit daft in my opinion as it's not about racing but scoring points for your drifting technique, but then Codemasters appeal to all by including sveral types of racing. Stock car racing, midnight duels on the open road, with traffic for those who like street racing, and other formats, each with their own skill required.

Whilst Burnout is a bit of fun and NFS and Midnight Club LA are all about street racing in an unrealistic world where you barely need to break and everyone calls you 'homey' and says how good your 'rims' look although there is a small part of Grid where you have to design your car into team colours and choose your sponsors this is only a small part and is by no means a feature to keep the creative entertained. This game is about racing, fast. I can't believe I waited 6 months to buy it. Pick up a bargain if you can but worth the full price. 9/10 (only because the drfting isn't for me and a little bit silly in my opinion-who races for points instead of position anyway?). Play the demo on PSN and see for yourself.

First of all i have pre-ordered this already!!!!!!

I downloaded the demo from the PSN network and its hardly been off since.

    UPPERS:
1/The graphics - wow......they convey such realism, the blood/sweat/tears and joy of racing is easy to see.The cars are ultra detailed, the tracks and lighing stunning.
    2/The sound - superb,fantastic engine roars,screetching tyres,crowd reaction,spot fx.....all stunning.
3/Damage - cars and tracks deform and handling is affected - superb.
4/Playability - This kept me on the edge of my seat......iut really gets the heart pumping and language flowing.Computer cars even spin off the track too!!!!
5/Online - even the demo has a awesome online mode...........racing touring cars in a 12 player/no slowdown/head to head race blows the crap out of GT5!!!

    DOWNERS:
1/Steering - Intially this detracts from the game but stick with it and you find its fine.....however i can see purists not liking its PG4 VS GT5 arcade leaning.
2/Erm............not much more really,i only hope that the full game allows you to HOST and invite friends for private races as the demo does not have this option.

Superb though.....cant wait till launch.............see you on the track!!!!!!!!
