Calling all Call Of Duty Fans, do you feel that the intense fighting and great multiplayer matches of COD are not enough, do you want more, if the answer is yes, then Operation Flashpoint (OFP) isn't the game for you.
OFP is a masterpiece of warfare realism, those of you who have the attention span of a gnat will find the scale and pace of flashpoint so overwhelming that you will trade it in and write a scathing review of how boring OFP is. Don't buy this game if you are looking for a in your face MTV style FPS as OFP isn't one. OFP is a War Sim, and when I use the term SIM I mean it's a Sim like a Microsoft Flight Sim or Gran Turismo. This is a game where if you get shot one of two things will happen, 1 you die or 2, you bleed to death unless treated by your medic, don't get this game if you like quick games with quick results as OFP is a slow burner and requires patience and a strategic mind to enjoy it.
one thing i will suggest is that when playing multiplayer a headset is a must, this is because of the play modes available and you dont want to be typing in "stop people enemy at 3 oclock" only to be killed while typing.
This is a tactical game and will be accepted by the thinking gamer.
Now the only bad point I have with OFP is the menu system, its complex and issuing simple orders like heal me is hidden away within the control interface, what would have been a great idea would have been some voice recognition like that used in the tom Clancy end war game, this would have made commands a little easier, but OFP doesn't have this so we are stuck with the complex menu. Apart from that Operation Flashpoint is a great game and should only be played by those who know what they are getting into
With the devoted followers of the COD (myself being one), it is very hard to look anywhere else for first person shooting action. But, with baited breath I was really looking forward to Operation Flashpoint 2. I knew it was a lot more tactical and a certain amount of grey cell matter would be needed to defeat 'the enemy'. But I have to admit, I was not expecting to have needed a minimum of 10 years service experience behind me to 'enjoy' this tactical shooter.
Operation Flashpoint 2 has never tried to come across as a COD clone and has been honest and proud to admit the hard level of tactical awareness required to survive the deadly islands battlefield. But a certain level of enjoyment should be rewarded for all your hard work.
At the start, you are thrown into the deep end, but it would be nice to know not only knowing what your objective is, but what buttons do what. My team and I were soon being fired upon (from a great distance) and I had no idea how to heal them let alone myself. A brief pause of the game and flick through the manual was not too much help either. Maybe I should have brought the Strategy Guide offered at the time of purchase (I swear I heard tutting as I walked away).
Once I had a relative idea of what was happening and what to do, my team were very unresponive to 'my orders', either I was getting it completely wrong or they just wanted to do their own thing!
Now, I must admit, the level of detail was amazing and for anyone who knows or likes their military warfare advancements, this would be camo-heaven. I was very impressed with the scale of things and was obviously made by people that truely cared for what they were doing... only when a game becomes too good and technically specific it can unfortunately alienate itself to only a devoted few.
I cannot take away the fact that alot effort and care has gone into this and if not for these points, I would only rate the game at a generous 2 stars.
I was unable to connect (for a long time) to the servers to experience multiplayer so I cannot comment on how that plays.
This is not for a casual gamer, only get this if you expect to love it as much as the developers to enjoy it. Sadly (and ignorantly) I have to admit I now know, I like a bit more 'arcadey' feel to my FPS game, I really wanted to enjoy this, but my hum-drum life will get in the way.
Worried now about looking forward to Ghost Recon!
I read the reviews and they are clearly mixed. I decided to buy it yesterday and read the manual with interest. I'm not usually impressed with Squad based games........Brothers in Arms was tedious but Ghost Recon restored the balance.......then this game came along. No tutorial was hard enough but once you work out how to command your squad its a real let down. I'm sure there are people in the Forces playing this (as I used to be) and the one thing this game gets totally wrong is you shouldn't have to nursemaid your squad around. They don't take cover until one of them is shot even though they have told you they have seen the enemy. I could go on but basically they don't do anything for themselves. The graphics for this game I felt were very poor. The effects when you order a barrage from one of your battleships is poor to say the least........a little bit of smoke and a vehicle with a dent in it when the smoke clears. The vehicles feel like your driving on ice when you can find one that works. The missions are disappointing.........destroy a SAM site and when you get there its one truck with three missiles on it.....destroy the RADAR station and when you get there its the size of a patio heater.
Online was a real let down. You have the services again of 4 morons who can't think for themselves. Then you spend 10 minutes waiting for the opposition to outflank you. There is a distinct lack of game formats and 4 (humans) a side is poor. It feels like it has been rushed and I feel very annoyed that I've wasted my money on this game. Rent before you buy.
I was looking forward to this game as it made a change being able to use you brain in a fps but i was very dissapointed.
The graphics aren't very good at all and there are a lot of bugs in the game.
As for the multiplayer don't even get me started.
I would say there are much better games available to buy, so think before you buy.
You have been warned.
NIce game good graphics and a real challenge! A must by for FPS ppl!!
