Well it's been awhile since I last picked up a Sonic game but something about this one gained my interest. Probably due to SEGA's announcement they were going to introduce some 2D elements in to it.

Immediately the thoughts rushed back of the MegaDrive era but in HD, sadly though the chaps at Sonic Team strayed away from that thought and instead introduced a massive purple "Werehog". That was their first mistake.

Secondly I'm not sure who tested the game but the camera angles are horrid, at some points if you go too close to the wall you are welcomed to a massive black screen! Not exactly what I was after!

Still with the negatives out of the way this Sonic game does seem like they are heading in to a better direction from the previous titles. The HD introduction really is something special and a great way to make you feel at ease for buying a HD Ready TV!

The voice overs are OK, some are a little hard on the ears but if you wanted to listen to the Japanese voices instead you can, as SEGA have allowed you to pick either English or Japanese voicing which is a nice move.

Probably where Sonic Unleashed shines the most is the soundtrack. Most of the tracks will have you humming at least along to. Even now if I play the old Sonic titles you can't shake that theme tune playing along and Sonic Unleashed is very much like that too.

For those of you who are interested Sonic Unleashed does come bundled with trophies, some easy some will have you pulling your hair out for! It does add some more time in to the game which is always a plus in my eyes.

Overall if they took away the Werehog levels and stuck purely with the real fast paced action of the Sonic stages Sonic Unleashed would of easily faired higher on the rating. As it stands now Sonic Unleashed has made some great advancements from previous titles but has failed to shake off those slighty annoying traits which keeps it from being a great game.

I did not expect it, but this game is very good. All other reviews want to make clear that the Werehog levels are awfull, but I do not agree. Nevertheless the sonic levels are really awesome and that's the reason why I give this game 5 stars. Sonic is one of a kind because it's a mixure of racing and platforming. I love this game!

Finally Sonic has hit the consoles back with a bang! He is faster than ever (MUCH faster!!!), looks better than ever, and now has a dark side to him when the sun sets, which makes a great gaming experience and gives the whole story a lovely twist.

The intro cutscene in HD is absolutely epic, I would love to see a Sonic film released using this sheer class animation and graphics.

I'm usually more into the FPS and more "grown up" games say, but this for me is just as much fun as any other game out there.

Overall this game is definately worth the purchase and sonic fans from the 90's will just love this as it uses to fast paced 'get to the finish' as fast as you can approach, however you can walk through the levels if you'd prefer, not reccomended though! :oP

 Sonic died in the 90's

i never had a doubt that this game would be anything other than a dissapointment. first off the story is a awfull in every way, its boring and unengaging, the characters are hollow and have no charm and sonic has this whole stereotype of being an unually simple shell filled with stupid catchphrases in every game hes in. the graphics are ok at a glance but closer inspection low res ground and character textures can be noticed as well as horrible jaggies on hd resolution screens. gameplay is mostly frustrating with a horrible camera however gameplay as sonic in his normal form can be entertaining but the werehog segments are tedious. the final insult sre the trophies wich are hard to achieve without serious playing time and skill wich is rediculous for a kids game. all in all i would say avoid and unless you really feel you need this game stick to classic mega drive sonic, honestly sonic should have been retired when sega left the console industry.
