I bought this a few weeks ago and havent had chance to play it, but the last few days i have, and ive gotta say if you have a tenner get this bought, It takes me back to playing the ace combat games on the playstation 1 and 2, Absolutley outstanding if you like arcade flight games easy to pick up and play and loads of different plane classes and a class mulitplayer mode, if you like dog fighting. A MUST BUY!!!
First of all I would like to say that this is the first flight sim that i've played on PS3. I think this game is a good starting point for a flight sim on PS3, but it would need a more realistic aspect to it for it to be any good.
I don't like to think about this game as a flight simulator because it simply isn't , but to be honest I don't think it matters because the game is still fun to play because the missions are quite good along with the quantity of aircraft and weapons packs.
Graphics need an overhaul because to tell the truth they are quite simply shocking. The planes are roughly the same size as the skyscrapers that they are fighting above.
Altogether the gameplay is quite good as long as your not too bothered about absolute realism. This is a good first attempt and I would advise the production team to go away and work on a second version of this game, but this time make sure they get it right, and by that I mean please MAKE IT REAL.
For each mission you get a ton of weapons mucgh greater than the chosen aircraft can carry (eg: an F4 with 100 odd AA). Flight dynamics are also far from true. Going up vertical experiences zero drop in speed. No G force effect.
If you like REAL combat flight sims this not for you. Amazing graphics but the missions are just a shoot 'em up.
There is one thing that really annoys me in H.A.W.X and that is that the graphics are awful on the ground. Flying low over a town or city and seeing graphics you'd expect in a ps1 game is just annoying, although the graphics elsewhere are well within the standard of a ps3 . H.A.W.X is a classic Tom Clancy, but not quite as good as some other Clancy games out earlier. The story is a good length and some levels are quite difficult. The assistance mode makes fighting really enjoyable and the ground attack is fun. i think you should get this game for a cheap price.
Being a Tom Clancy Fan of books and Games.......Don't Look here for Realism, pre-ordered this tat before it came out and paid top dollar....defies aviation physics and no similar numbered bearing heading compass. The first flying game i have played with out it... you get audio instructions to go to a bearing of 242 but all you have is an ordinary North, South compass... if they had allowed the ability to switch to flight sim mode, i would have been happy. but your stuck in an arcade mode throughout and never feel the stall or loss of terminal velocity or flight speed causing the aircraft to fall to the ground due to insufficient power. You can always pull up safely at the last moment.. grrrrr .....paid nearly 50 quid...... better value currently,,,flight sim fans get IL Sturmovik, try the demo first...
