Ok let me start out by saying i absolutely love streetfighter and always have, whether it be the characters, gameplay, visuals, sound everything.
So why ruin it by releasing this and calling it 4,because its a disgrace to the streetfighter name and doesn't deserve to be called that as it shares more in common with the horrible Ex series than it does with the 2d series.
Don't get me wrong, its lovely and smooth to play with beautifully rendered graphics but the characters themselves have been stripped of personality and dont seem to create the same excitement as the older games.
Playing the game just feels so much like the ex series it was difficult to get that feeling to go away while playing and by the time i'd beaten seth, which by the way is probably the worst boss of the series ive seen i was just so let down by it all.
I was always a bit skeptical about Street Fighter IV.
I played it at a convention back in 2008, and thought it was ok.
I picked up a copy when I was in America back in February, spent around 90 hours fighting vs people online and with friends thinking that that I'd only scraped the surface. I haven't touched the game for around 3-4 weeks now.
Why? Because there is simply not enough content there for hardcore fighting fans. If you've played Street Fighter II, imagine that, but much, much slower, with absorb attacks that will never be used once you figure out how the game plays.
Trial mode introduces some stupidly complex combos, with bafflingly strict timing. I imagine the reason they made the timing for stringing simple things such as lp lp lp mk together so strict is so it would add some difficulty to the game and make old fans think there's room for them too, amongst the 12 year old Ken/Sagat only players.
Get this if you have friends you want to get into Street Fighter, otherwise go play Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Hyper Street Fighter II, or Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, the GOOD fighting games.
Nothing really to complain. It is perfect as we thought it would be.The first game after street fighter alpha 3 to make my hand have blisters.Great game for everyone.Classic.
I must say i was put by reviewers saying this isnt for newcomers as i am too a newcomer, but wow after about a month of "breaking in" and sitting on my shelve i finnaly got into it and boy im glad i did because once you get past the learning curve SF IV is a pure addiction. Its so fun creaming your friends and the computer (at easiest difficulty for me) at this game and although online is either dead or stupidly unbalanced multiplayer is uncomparable when face to face. A must buy and take it from me i normally hate fighting games but i havnt stopped playing this for weeks get this game!
Basically, it's great fun. If, like me, you think beat'em'ups have become over complicated and dull, then you'll like this. It's not trying to compete with other (400 moves per character) beat'em'ups on the same level. Instead it's found its niche and doing what street fighter does best. You won't need to spend hours in the dojo, just pick up and play. Me and my friends all played street fighter 2 and instinctively know how play street fighter 4. It's taken the best of the SF series and made it next gen. Simply, it's proper back-to-basics fun. It looks great and feels familiar. I've not had this much fun since I first got my SNES. It's style is unapologetically 90s arcade (which you will either love or hate).
Ok, it's not perfect. Arcade mode is overly difficult and rewards dull and stupid play. Seth (the final boss) is no fun. And 90% of my fights online have been against Ryu. However, get two controllers and a few friends over and you'll be playing all night.
Anyway, this is a brilliant beat'em'up, nostalgia trip, party game all rolled into one. Buy it now. If you loved street fighter 2, buy it yesterday.
