Motorstorm is an arcade style racer that pits varied types of vehicles (ranging from motorbikes to fire engines) against one another in a variety of offroad tracks.
The first thing to note about Motorstorm is that the game is a lot of fun. The graphics are good and the physics are solid, but the gameplay is where the game really shines. There are thrills aplenty, and you'll often be gritting your teeth or feeling the adrenaline pump as you risk being smashed into a wall to overtake someone on the last bend. Being inches ahead of a truck as it attempts to crush your bike, or knocking someone off their ATV in your rally car, are just two of the moments that make this game a joy to play.
The downside is that the game does not have a lot of substance to it. There are not a lot of tracks, the vehicle choice could have been better and the career mode is just a set of races and has no real substance. There is also no split screen multiplayer, which seems absolutely criminal in a game that is this much fun. The game seems made for split screen multiplayer, but as it stands you can only race against others online.
The lack of content is disappointing, but at the same time it can't truly dampen the fact that Motorstorm is a lot of fun, and you will have a lot of fun with it. At this point it might be worth waiting for the sequel and hoping that that has more substance to it, but for £14.99 this is well worth picking up if you want something a little different from a racing game.
If u got m8s around its great def worth £15 but can get booring playing alone but def 1 4 the shelf.
Motorstorm starts off with a nice looking intro, but once you get to the menus it starts to fall apart. Car selection is really slow (5-10s per car), downloading the update takes around 10 minutes with a 24 megabit connection. Once you start racing you notice it has no feel of speed (check some videos). The handling has no feel what so ever. It's all just understeer and more understeer. Framerate isn't steady and will crawl to a halt when AI racers wreck their cars. At least for me this causes a headache.
This isn't even a racing game, it's a puzzle game where you have to find the fastest route for your vehicle. Enviroments in races are too similar so racing againts cheating AI on the same tracks over and over quicly becomes annoying.
I reccomend buying sega rally which has much better feel of speed, handling and more varied courses.
me and my partner played this as our first game on ps3 and i have to say i loved it my partner (whos not really a gamer) was addicted to it for weeks - the different races cars and timed races make it a real challenge for everyone to enjoy - really easy to control and would def recommend it !
I really like this game its different to other racing games the crash cams are good to watch the tracks are good 5/5.
