PS3 Wireless Bluetooth Headset allows higher quality voice-chat on PS3. Mute status, volume level, battery fuel gauge, charging status and connection status is displayed up on PS3's on-screen display. The headset can be used as a microphone when docked in the charging cradle - voice output from PS3 is automatically transferred to the TV in this case. Allows for easy storage of Headset when not being used.

Top 100 Games Reviewer

I had a chance to get to grips with one of these over in the US, and I was unexpectedly impressed. There had been talk of an official headset being released for months and I automatically expected, it being from Sony, to be horribly overpriced at £40 or something silly like that and lacking in what it really needs. I stand corrected.

£17.99 is a more than agreeable price for a licensed accessory, especially if you purchase it with SOCOM: Confrontation for only £29.99. It automatically syncs and resyncs when you turn the console on and off assuming it's not in the docking stand. The stand itself is excellent, it charges the headset and also allows it to be used as a standing microphone. The LED light on the front of the headset itself shows levels of charge and whether or not it is active, which is very handy. On top of this it has a simple mute function, which is absent from most normal bluetooth headsets.

Overall, very impressed. Unlike Sony to produce something for such a reasonable price and of such excellent quality. I'm unsure though whether it can be used with a normal mobile phone, or whether it charges through a USB into the playstation or a normal socket. Hopefully it does so through a socket, otherwise you can only charge it when your Playstation is on, which would just be stupid.

These extra features make this a must have for me.

 Little Big Headset

Happened to grab one of these headsets a while before the standalone EU launch.

Attractive design and convenient application. Audio is clearly reproduced in both directions. This is further evident when using the exclusive PS3 feature of the headset; High Quality mode.

Other Features: Mute button to silent the mic and volume buttons for the ear. On screen display for battery and volume info, Charging cradle for open mic usage while charging the device and auto PS3 pairing that requires no Bluetooth USB connector.

Negatives: Not very comfortable; others may have less of a problem with, what would seem like, an oversized ear plug.

The PS3's Audio Device Settings gives the impression that this mic is very quiet, but no matter what audio level you pick (1-5) your voice volume seems the same. It's, therefore, hard to tell if it's possible to make your voice louder/quieter. HQ mode also introduces input-voice lag.

The power button is awkward to use while wearing the headset and when the mute button is used, the headset sequentially emits an inner-ear beep.

Make sure to charge the device in the cradle until it's fully charged (blinking red light eventually turns into a solid one). Connect the headset directly to the activated PS3, using a wired USB connection, without the cradle. The green light should flash, thus, indicating successful pairing.

If pairing fails (long red blink), go into Accessory Settings / Manage Bluetooth Devices to delete the PS3 Headset, should it be there, then try to pair again. Mine failed to pair due to it already being listed as a Bluetooth device, until I deleted it

I get hold of one of these before launch. The ear piece is a little bit large but not uncomfortable. The quality of the sound is apsolutley precise! Spot on high quality mode. Compatible with sony erricson mobile phones only but the quality is not particularly good from a phone. Excellent headset especially with it being rechargeable. A must buy for all online ps3 gamers.

Just like microsoft's headset...but better value

To the person below, are you seriously stupid? The official 360 headset bleeps every 15 seconds to indicate the mic is on mute and yet you dont find that annoying?? I sense fanboyism. Anyway, on this particular headset, it is about time sony pulled their finger out and released an official headset worthy of online use.
Their biggest mistake was not including one of these in the box at laucnh coz so many people have become used to playing without one and are comfortable playing without using proper teamwork and tactics.
On the bad side, the ear mic is slightly uncomfortable, its a shame there weren't a\ny extra ear plugs included to fit your size, but all in all an excellent headset. It has a mute button, vooume up and down, and charges directly from usb it even beats the 360's headset as it allows you to use the headset as a mic when it is charging and relays other peoples voice through the tv
All in all, an essential buy for any serious online gamer. Voice quality is crisp, performance is admirable, and the money you are paying for it as a bargain. Microsoft charge £35 for their headset and it uses radio waves to transmit sound, this causes it to have a lot of unwanted noise and 'blurring' during use. It also runs out much quicker than the 6 hours they say it lasts for

Great little bluetooth headset clear & sharp. What it does not tell you on the box is that it will work with Mobile phones too. Also if your having trouble syncing it up with your PS3 here's how to do it VERY EASY. Turn on your PS3 Plug the USB lead into your PS3. now plug the other end of the USB lead into the top of the headset it'self NOT the USB plug on the stand and the PS3 will sync it self up. And your ready to go.
