I'm not a skating fan, but when I played the demo from PS store, I knew I had to buy this. And I love this game. The freedom to skate anything, the races and the competitions kept me on this game during hours. And with this price, this is just a must have. The best thing is to skate the dam... I just love to get full speed and watch the skater hit anything. Also, knowing wich bones the skater broke brings a smile to my face :P
8/10, wich is great for a skating game.

 Best Skating Game ever.

So much fun to play, and it really is allot better than the 1st skate and definitely worth buying even if your not into these games. 2 player hall of meat is very amusing, skydive - random aerial maneuvers such as torpedo, cannon ball and the very amusing skydiving position - classic stuff.

Loads of stuff to do in this huge free roaming world of SKATE. The huge map is so well laid out and varies so much so it never gets boring just skating around owning the spots and such.

Analogue controls are tricky at first if your used to TH games but quickly comes apparent that the fluidity is so much more rewarding and so much more fun to use, compared to button mashing. A real nice break away from buttons.

- Graphics are brilliant, love the sun-set atmosphere. Everything is well detailed and quite beautiful to look at, good as it gets.

So, its cheap, fun, addictive and beautiful. It's worth anyone's money, it really is. 5/5

 Not worth the money

Like all EA games, EA have gone and taken the same product and re-wrapped it in a different packaging to make a quick buck of us costumers. To be brief, the map is more or less the same then Skate 1 and it is disappointing for all of those who have played Skate 1 thoroughly. The game can also be very frustrating. If you have a short temper do not buy this game because you will find your console outside on your street in pieces. The people, cars, security guards, other skaters and skate stoppers always get in the way and really test you patience when your trying to nail a bs tre flip down a huge stair set. The game is short and pretty boring, the missions are similar and there is no real interesting back story to the career mode. The cut scenes are also very boring to watch and the instant replays after you completed a challenge are terrible, a) you don't see your trick most of the time and b) they are slow at loading. HOWEVER the game has improved from is previous predecessor. The ability to get off your board and move around is helpful, the new tricks such as one-footers etc are fun. But to be fair the Tony Hawk franchise had done all this by 2003 when Tony Hawk's Underground was released. Therefore EA should have done this in Skate 1. So in my view the game is only worth 2 stars and a waste of money, so i would advice to put that money to a side and save it for Skate 3.

 Good but...

I must admit I have been looking forward to this game since I completed the original Skate, I loved the way it was so different. Using a brand new control system and going for a realistic take on the sport rather than the way over the top Tony Hawk games, there were issues though. You couldn't get off your board, the online was very laggy and the goals were very trick specific which became very frustrating very quickly, but the new Skate has attempted to solve these issues!
The first thing you will notice about the new Skate is that the graphics have been "upped" since the first game, everything looks a lot more clean, brighter and better in general but there are MAJOR problems. It's plainly obvious that this game had been rushed to come out on it's launch date, no matter where you go or where you look there seems to be a big ugly graphic pop in. This really distracts from the game play and makes skating around San Vanelona a less than joyful place to be.
I was disappointed with the level design, I have played the first game through many times and got a real feel to the city, with Skate 2 they seem to have just almost made a copy of the first games spots and have added a few tweaks to thoughts sports. Overall it makes the games environment feel like you have seen it all before. EA have added some new areas to skate which are all very nice but I would have liked to see something more done with the areas and spots of Skate 2.
In the original Skate there was a nice variety of tricks at your disposal, but many were still left out and one of the key features that we almost expect in a skateboarding game now-a-days to be able to get off your board and walk around was nowhere to be found, which was a disappointment. However, with Skate 2 EA have added in loads of new tricks such as No-complies, Inverts and Foot-Plants etc, they achieved most of this by added in a modifier button, so say you do an Ollie and press X you will kick one of your legs out and jump off of it, this is a nice feature which adds to the game play.
The goal structure has been changed somewhat, in Skate 1 the main structure was you had to land a specific trick in a specific spot. This grew very frustrating very quickly, with Skate 2 though things are quite different. Instead of specific trick goals it's now much more get a number of points in a time limit, but because they have taken away the trick specific goals the new point's goals are just that bit harder than Skate 1 so for a new player to Skate I can see how this can become just as frustrating as the trick specific goals.
From playing Skate 1 you can tell that the online wasn't a primary concern, it had a few nice game modes and a good Free-Skate option but it didn't run particularly well, however the online in Skate 2 has cardinally been improved, ish. They have carried over most of the old game modes like S.K.A.T.E, Spot Battle and Deathrace and have added challenges in Free-Skate; these are very similar to the Burnout Paradise challenges and work well. There is one main problem though, connection. Sometimes it can be ni-on impossible to connect to EA Nation (Which you have to play online) and even when you do most of the time it's laggy and signs you out all the time.
Overall Skate 2 is a very good game but is hugely spoilt by it's online and graphics.
6.9/10

 Skate 2

skate one was a revolutionary game. skate two builds upon this change and makes it better. Skate 2 adds new tricks, new locations, better online and more fun. The new tricks work in quite well with the original skate controls. New players to the skate series will find it difficult to adapt from the button bashing seizures of tony hawk but it is possible and is very much more satisfying when achieved. Players of the original skate, who are in favor of the extreme realism will however be slightly disappointed as the learning curve has been lowered to allow a wider audience. While body flips have become a lot more difficult, simple things such as grinding have become a lot more easier e.g. magnetic rails. If you are an owner of both games just try to manual a picnic table - it is now impossible, this is the magnetic rails.

In conclusion the game is a breath of fresh air after the two years after the revolution of skate 1. I would recommend this game to anyone who liked skate one or who just needs a change from the ever repetitive tony hawk games (excluding ride that is! :P). With plenty to do this game will not gather dust on a shelf for a long time.

I bought this game a while back when it was £20. i actually couldnt put it down! i loved the story (altho it could of been a lil longer) as there was alot more skating to be done than the previous game. the online modes are the where the funs at tho, especially the hall of meat where you bail to get points. would recommend this to anyone really. il never sell this game.

 Excellent game.

Owned it for a few weeks now, only paid 32€ for it.

My GF got me Tony Hawk 8 for its cheap price after it was released on platinum, but I only needed about 1 hour to find out it was still pretty much the same as the previous versions...

Skate 2 is something different though, it feels a lot more realistic and has an awesome style. I can enjoy myself for hours just skating around doing realistic stuff and editing replays. The possibilities are pretty much endless with all the things you can move around and there 's tons of clothes for your character to wear. The career is a lot more fun than TH8 imo, skating for magazins, street contests, pool contests, etc.... way better than collecting some letters around the map. Another difference is the map layout. Unlike TH8, you 're not playing on small maps but in stead it 's one huge city with curbs, rails, jumps everywhere.

I admit the controls are hard in the beginning and pretty frustrating at times, especially when you 're new to Skate like I was, but after a few hours I started to get the hang of it though and now I 'm really enjoying the game.

Online mode is fun, up to six players and so far I haven't noticed any lag.

Imo a must buy for every skater!
