There isn't really much to say about this. It's a real shame because with the right dev team (with decent technical ability) this could have been really good. I don't care how much this game is it is not good value - it is a title which you would have ZERO reason to play considering the other title's that are available. Really really poor. REALLY poor.

 hmmm.. strangest game

received it as a gift... no wonder!!

probably the cheesiest game ever, you're doing the same thing over and over, no variation in enemies and weird mixing different enemies in scenery they dont belong!!

try to avoid...

 Avoid

This'll be short so here goes:
- the humour is funny for 30 seconds then becomes cringe worthy
- you'll fight the same 6 enemies throughout the whole game
- weapons are dull, levels are bland, characters uninteresting
- offline only game that lags alot, most noticable on final level
- graphics are average, nothing more
- criminally short
+ funnily enough, decent soundtrack, sounds like duke nukem
- but it's not duke nukem

 Underrated game, great humor!

This game is realy underrated, yeah the gfx and the controls aint the best. But the humor in this game is realy great and you just cant help to laugh.

The game is insane cheap here at Play.com so it's is a no-brainer realy, buy and have some fun with Matt Hazard!

Eat Lead: The Return Of Matt Hazard Is Ok for the price

| | See all Nutgone's reviews (10)

I bought this on a whim as it was on sale for 5.99 here on play.
That was a fair price for this game. Its ok, bit basic but generally a decent 3rd person shooter.
The graphics are fair and cover system is pretty good.
I would doubt I would pay more than 10 seeing there are better shooters at platinum price now.
But for 5.99 I'm happy with my purchase. Extra star given for the low price

Prepare to eat lead. . . again!

That's right ladies and gentlemen, it's time for another Gincairn Review,

Firstly a bit of back story, to start with how can this be called "the Return of Matt Hazard" when we as gamers have never heard of him before? Well it's all a part of the story behind the game itself, you see Matt is a semi-retired video game hero from the 80's, his career kind of bottomed out after the abysmal HazMatt Kart racing
and the water pistol shooter Soak'em and the video game company he works for has hit rock bottom, that is until a new developer joins the ranks and decides that the new title is going to star the one and Only Matt Hazard!

When Matt enters the first level things seem to be going to plan, well rehearsed script, good dialogue and enemies to shoot, then funny things start happening, enemies from old games start turning up and the other characters don't seem to be sticking to the script. Someone is hacking the game and trying to kill Matt Hazard once and for all.

And that's the basic plot. . .

Eat Lead is a parody game, it never takes itself seriously and pokes fun at a lot of other games while referencing bits and pieces from days gone by, it breaks the fourth wall in almost every level and it has some of the silliest trophies available for any game, a bronze being given for starting a new game, pausing for the first time and finishing the tutorial but there are some harder ones to nab too, killing two enemies with one bullet for example.

Eat Lead is a third person shooter and as with Socom, the player can view from over either shoulder and aiming is made easier depending on your viewpoint.

The weapons available are varied and pretty good fun, going from a Magnum to dual wielding six shooters in a wild west themed level or switching to a grenade launcher picked up from the Russian missile factory each has their own benefits and since guns can be looted from fallen foes, there is never a shortage of ammo.

The guns themselves aren't the main focus of the game however, it's the cover system where Eat Lead excels, find a handy spot of cover to hide behind and you have three options available, blind fire, pop up and aim or even run to the next point of cover (this is done automatically by the player selecting the appropriate space and pressing the correct button). The cover system works very well and really sets the game apart from other titles of its type. You can't hide behind crates and boxes forever though, enough shots will cause the boxes to de-res leaving a glowing
blue hole in the ground where your life saving crate had once been.

Graphically the game is great and certain points of the story will harken back to the old Disney film Tron, with a small twist of the matrix movies thrown in for good measure (for example enemies "bleed" code instead of claret).

There are some nice nods to older games, stealth aspects from MGS, explosive fire extinguisher play from Dead to Rights and silly in-game humour likening back to the old lucasarts point and click games.

The bosses are varied and also come right out from the older games that the title pokes fun at, Altos Stratos for example is a final fantasy-esque character who attacks, heals and uses items all from a blue menu that pops up in front of him.

The sound in-game has it's own good points too, the music is involving and sometimes cheesy with a final fantasy like tune being played when you have cleared a room of the enemies swarming in, voice acting is great from the gravelly Matt Hazard to the Arnie inspired Sting Sniperscope, with Matt plugging his own catchphrase ("It's Hazard time") at every available opportunity.

a decent title that just screams for a sequel.

Seems interesting at first sight, but less after 3 hours

I bought this game because it's been only 15 pounds.
The gameplay isn't very innovative but it works really good. The difficulty is alright but some passages seem to be a bit unfair, so you gotta try it twice, three times, four times... etc.
The graphics are average, the performance good. The sound is not average, but worse. The story starts interesting and some parts are really funny, because of good jokes.
All on all there are many games, that will give you a lot more gameplay and fun for this price.

3 Stars - AVERAGE SHOOTER

Good premise but lacking in all other areas!

Well the title say's it all sound's good on paper having a action video game character from a game inside a game whilst making fun of other video games but playing 90% of this game I had to put it down because of bad choices in design, controls and humour. Playing through this, feels more of chore than interactive entertainment as you plod on you start to realise that this game really felt un-finished and un-loved because of bad hit detection, bad jokes, bad A.I and mega bad script. I wished I'd never paid £39.99 for this game it belongs in a bargain bucket.

 Worth It

Contrary to what some people have said about this game, it's actually an enjoyable, fun and often hilarious experience.

It isn't a stunner graphically, but you wouldn't expect that from a game like this.

However it plays very well, with a brilliantly intuitive inclusion in the point-to-cover system.

If you buy this, you will definitely have fun and for the older gamers, you'll find some of the gaming references very funny.

It's a time filling game, not a blockbuster, but definitely one you should pay attention to.

 Good Fun.....

I have to say i quite like this game... i know the graphics are not up to COD standard but in terms of fun it has plenty... Trophies are easy to collect and it has funny one liners... if you look past the average graphics you can see a really good game... i would recommend it but... your not me... make your own mind up!
