For Max Payne, the tragedies that took his loved ones years ago are wounds that refuse to heal. No longer a cop, close to washed up and addicted to pain killers, Max takes a job in São Paulo, Brazil, protecting the family of wealthy real estate mogul Rodrigo Branco, in an effort to finally escape his troubled past. But as events spiral out of his control, Max Payne finds himself alone on the streets of an unfamiliar city, desperately searching for the truth and fighting for a way out.

Featuring cutting edge shooting mechanics for precision gunplay, advanced new Bullet Time and Shootdodge effects, full integration of Natural Motion's Euphoria Character Behaviour system for lifelike movement and a dark and twisted story, Max Payne 3 is a seamless, highly detailed, cinematic experience from Rockstar Games.

In addition to an expansive single-player campaign, Max Payne 3 will also be the first entry in the series to introduce a thorough and engrossing multiplayer experience. Max Payne 3 multiplayer brings the same cinematic feel, fluid gunplay and sense of movement of the single-player game into the realm of online multiplayer. Using the fiction and signature gameplay elements of the Max Payne universe, Max Payne 3 features a wide range of new and traditional multiplayer modes that play on the themes of paranoia, betrayal and heroism, all delivered with the same epic visual style of the single player game.
  • Suitable for 18 years and over. Not for sale to persons under age 18. By purchasing this product, you declare that you are 18 years of age and over.

  • Developed by Rockstar Games for a seamless, highly detailed, cinematic experience
  • Advanced Bullet Time and Shootdodge and Final Kill-cam mechanics for stylish shooting action
  • Cutting edge aiming, targeting and animation processes for precise, fluid gunplay
  • A dark, twisted story chronicling the return of Max Payne, one of the most iconic characters in videogames
  • Tight integration between Natural Motion's Euphoria Character Behaviour System and a brand new iteration of the Rockstar Advanced Game Engine (RAGE) for lifelike movement and a new level of environmental awareness
  • A wide range of weapons rendered in incredible detail: hammers cock back, shells eject from the chamber and each bullet is individually modeled from the split second it's fired to the moment of impact.
  • Advanced particle physics and destructible environments set the stage for dramatic and chaotic gun fights
  • New to the series, a compelling and addictive multiplayer experience to match the dark and relentless atmosphere of the single-player game

 Not so great

I bought the ps3 version as it the graphics looked a little smoother than the xbox 360 version - however I may have made the wrong decision as I found the PS3 version suffers from the same problem that haunts every PS3 game - namely that it only installs a small amount of data to the HD and the game is constantly streaming data during the game - because the Bluray drive is a little slow, this can cause pauses during cut-scenes.

The game developers also don't really seem to appreciate what kind of damage different weapons can do - using a shotgun on an enemy 5 feet away would be an instant kill in reality - not in this game. Unless you hit enemies in the head, a 1 shot kill is impossible regardless of what weapon you are using.

In fact I found that in this game an AK47 assault rifle firing 7.62mm rounds does exactly the same amount of damage as a 9mm pistol - utterly ridiculous.

The game also doesnt allow you to use grenades or petrol bombs (even when they are available to enemies)

The game is also buggy - I experienced game stopping bugs on 3 occasions when entering a room, coming under fire and retreating out the door I just came in resulted in being in a blank environment and not being able to do anything.

Gameplay itself is bland and uninspiring - often boring. There is a linear route to follow and there is no scope for trying alternative tactics - you are forced into down the throat fights when in reality you could flank enemies easily. The last level is particularly unfair in that you are restricted to an area with very little cover and trying to go outside that area to seek better cover results in the game killing you instantly - totally unfair and unrealistic.

Obviously there isn't a whole lot I liked about this game - graphics are par for the course and there is absolutely ZERO innovation - no wow factor here.

I tried to like this game - I was a massive fan of the original game, but after all these years and the technology available today, this should (and could) have been a lot better.

I found the game a chore to play - I even had to force myself to complete it as I intend to trade it in at the earliest opportunity.

 Great game . A must buy !

Excellent game . It still has the feeling of the earlier games such as the music . The location of the game is a big bonus - nice to see somebody has used thier imagination...
The story is superb and although all shooters are a bit 'samey' ,- this gets better and better . The flashbacks aren't annoying and the gameplay is smooth and instinctive .
My only criticism is that I would like Max to have the oppurtunity to use molotov cocktails or grenades , -as in the previous games .
'Bullet time ' is still a bonus . The scenery is great and the music very atmospheric . The final levels in the airport really are enjoyable and can be challenging .
All in all - a great buy - a great game

I played the first max payne on ps2 and never completed it because i didn't like it so didn't bother with 2. After seeing the the screen shots and trailers this game looked really good so took a chance and bought it and to me its the best one i've played with a really good campaign also the graphics and gameplay are pretty good. The slow motion is really good and looks cool in gun fights. Top marks for the campaign as for the online well to me its pretty basic and not so addictive as other titles to keep me playing. Overall definitely worth buying 10/10 experience.

 Very good game

My last review didn't go through. Play.com sort it out. Ignore the bad reviews because tbh they are inaccurate cause you can throw grenades and there's people saying it's just good graphics, and that the gameplay isn't that good, which baffles me as this is the best gameplay that's been in a game for years. I put it down to people trolling as anyone with half a braincell know Rockstar never fail to impress. Get this game it has amazing graphics story and gameplay. Anyone who slags off a game for having nice graphics shouldn't even be reviewing thats one the main elements of a game!
