The orders are simple: hunt down and execute a rogue agent that has stolen top-secret intelligence and millions in Agency cash. For agent Rico Rodriguez, the mission is anything but routine. The target is Tom Sheldon, Rico's former commanding officer, mentor and friend; a man who knows Rico better than he knows himself.

Sheldon went dark while operating in the corrupt island nation of Panau. There, three rival gangs wage war in the streets while the ruthless dictator Baby Panay rules the island with an iron fist. With the resources of the Agency at his disposal, Rico must infiltrate the island and locate Sheldon, setting off a violent chain of events that will set Panau ablaze.

Each of Rico's assignments can be tackled by land, sea or air with more than 100 vehicles including tactical jeeps, attack helicopters and jet fighters. As the Agency's best, Rico can execute a range of breathtaking new stunts, utilising his trademark parachute and upgraded grapple to reach any location in Panau. Somewhere on the 400 square mile island of white sand beaches, scorching deserts and snow-capped peaks, Sheldon awaits.

An epic game of massive proportions

Ok, lets get to the point. I'm a GTA follower, and have been itching to play the next GTA since I completed GTA4, but have been searching the PS3 market for something to fill in the time between. Bottom line is, I found it, and this game is an absolute blast!

Graphics: The graphics in HDMI are superb, with attention to detail in every corner, and in every explosion. Fire looks realistic, as does blood, and the landscapes are different enough around the island to avoid being the same old view.

Sound: The FX are nice and realistic, with plenty of noise to keep you entertained. The music just blends into the game, so even if it has been repeating itself, I haven't noticed in the 10 hours of gameplay I've had.

Story & Missions: The storyline is enough to keep you interested, but reminds me a lot of FarCry2. The missions have also been fairly varied, with plenty of killing going on. Several of the missions in the first 10 hours of play, have made me want to replay them already.

In game equipment/items: There is absolutely loads to play around with. Motorbikes, Cars, Trucks, Armoured Vehicles, Helicopters, Jets... It pretty much has it all. On top of the impressive vehicle collection are the weapons. Grenades, Explosives, MPGs, Assault Rifles, Snipers Rifle - again.. plenty of choice. All the items are available to upgrade, giving them new life throughout the game.

Overall Gameplay: Everything plays as you'd want it to. There are the odd few little niggles, like getting killed mid mission and being unable to complete it without restarting. Not too bad you say? I'd agree, if they actually told you that you had to restart!! All that aside, there is nothing that has disappointed me so far.

I was concerned about buying this on the console as I'm usually a keyboard and mouse kinda guy, but this was overcome by some handy targetting system.. so long as you are in the near general area, the bullets will find their mark, however things like one shot kills (headshots) require precision, so this give those who like a challenge something to aim for.

There are statistics all over this game, and the area to explore is huge. To give you GTA fans an idea, add all the areas or all the GTA games so far into one... and times it by 10.. we're talking humungous! I doubt I'll finish this anytime soon, and with plenty of clever quirks to make you want to explore the entire island, Rockstar will really have to pull their finger out in the next GTA, to avoid being left for dead.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the game if you buy it!!! :)

 Maybe Beats GTA4... Buy It!

I was really pleasantly suprised by the demo for this game, and so thought I'd buy it, and I'm glad I did... The map is huge, this is an exploration like nothing before, the graphics are at times stunning and you kinda go "wow!", particularly when looking at some of the scenery, as well as the pretty cool explosions and gruesome gunfights. For me (although I haven't played GTA4 for a while) it beats GTA 4, with that game I felt let down, they left too much out, and I just wish they'd done a San Andreas style game with next-gen graphics. With this game, there's something quite satisfying about destroying enemy bases, tonnes of enemies, and exploring for hours. Yes, the voice overs are pretty terrible (your ears may burn at the sound of "Bolo Santosi" lol), and the cutscenes/ openings for missions are pretty repetative but after about 15 hours of gampleay, I feel as though I'm just scratching the surface, if unlike me you didn't play just cause 1, nor had I really even heard of it! I would reccomend this, has to be one of the best open world games so far on the PS3... just wish I could sit and play it all day :)

This is a great game. Though the story and some (Though not all) of the missions come off as average, the amount of stuff to do and the freedom of how you do it is immense and immensely fun.

This game will have you coming back for more and more, even if you ever manage the feat of completing this game 100%

3 Thumbs up! (I am a mutant and thus I have three arms)

What Can I say! Despite the dreadful accents and occasional case of puppet mouth with characters this game delivers on pretty much every level.
Firstly I'm going to say how this game has really opened my eyes to the scale that games are actually able to achieve in this generation of consoles! I often found myself spending 20 odd minutes actually transporting myself from mission to mission.
Secondly, the graphics are truly awe inspiring they may not meet up to such standards set by GTA IV. Despite this there are still moments in the game where you actually feel the need to stop and just take in the view.
And lastly the gameplay value is truly endless. I've been playing on the game now for 18 hours and I've just finished the main story line. And what waits for me? An expansive land with hundreds of racing activates, Easter eggs as wacky as finding the lost island from the TV series, 100s of settlements, Military bases and oil refinements followed by the not so exciting.. collecting of Skulls, Black boxes and drug cases for the 3 factions you work for.
This is truly one of those games where the more you play, the more you start to appreciate it. A must buy for open world game lovers.

 Great game!

First of all I don't know how mister "hmmm..." could give this game just 1 star because it at least deserves 4. This game is massive, twice the size of the San Andreas map and has an incredible height to it where you can just keep going until it takes you ages to reach the bottom. You can skydive, you can parasail, you can swim on and under the surface of water, you can fly planes, you can drive boats, you can drive cars adn you can do anything you like in this game, and there is so much more freedom than any other sandbox game. The graphics are very good, but not the best, but can you blame the developers with that huge map? The gameplay is very good, but the AI is still of basic standards for a sandbox game, just running and shooting really. The guns are a bit of a problem for me though, there is only a small selection to choose from with only 2 shotguns, 2 machine guns, a sniper rifle, a grenade launcher, a revolver, a submachine gun and a pistol, not forgetting grenades and C4, this can make it a bit tedious after a while. The vehicles are very good but yet again they still pale in comparison to the vehicles of Mercenaries 2 because there is only 4 types of armed helicopter compared to M2's almost unlimited amount of variations of the same helicopter for each faction. I also thought that some tanks would be in this game, and although there is a few armoured vehicles, they all have wheels! Which shows that maybe the detail of the tracks were too much for the developers to handle, this again makes M2 look somewhat superior to it. But the jets and fighter planes in this game make it much more explosive compared to M2. I have found myself being sidetracked many times due to the settlements and resource items that need to be found, as I am 25 hours in and only done 3 agency missions. But because of the scale and all the stuff that needs to be found I did unfortunately find myself getting bored of this game. But all in all this game is a marvelous achievement that deserves far more credit than the mundane FPSs like MW2 that constantly consume the praise. I think this game is fantastic, there is no word to describe its scale and its fun, but I think that boredom might strike if you aim for 100%. Very fresh take on a sandbox game and one that will be remembered for years to come.
