The Last Story features time-honoured RPG gameplay and story elements but also adds modern twists to the traditional RPG formula. Customise your items and character and master the innovative combat system to succeed in this epic new RPG universe.

During The Last Story you take control of Zael and from time to time his partners, a band of mercenaries in search of their fortune. You undertake a series of missions and explore Lazulis Island and its sprawling medieval capital Lazulis City, while trying to help Zael achieve his ultimate goal of leaving his life as a mercenary behind and becoming a true knight.

The Last Story features a high level of customisation for both items and characters appearance. There are two main ways of customising your party's equipment including visiting blacksmiths to increase their abilities and using dyes to change their colour. By visiting the various blacksmiths who are situated within Lazulis City and within some dungeons you can upgrade your weapons and armour.

Unlike many other RPGs, The Last Story not only features a thrilling single player campaign with an engaging story, but also Online Multiplayer options including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Co-Op modes. Now you can battle against or alongside up to five other RPG fans from across Europe using your own customised character from the Single Player game.

Master the innovative combat system, customise your character and gather items you discover throughout the game, and by utilising new features in The Last Story you will be able to take on the many enemies and bosses that can be found across Lazulis Island. Combat mixes traditional melee, ranged and magic attacks that are often found in RPGs with an innovative cover system and unique magical abilities. You will have to master a mysterious ability called The Gathering to help Zael and his band of mercenaries complete their missions and battle vast bosses by discovering their weak spots, picking a suitable strategy and using team work to bring them down.

 Really Rather Good!

Whilst not quite in the same class as Xenoblade, it still does well enough to score the top 5 stars in my opinion. Just a few general thoughts:

- It's shortish for a RPG (around 30 hours)
- Customisation is top notch
- All the characters are like-able, and act in ways you can predict Obvious credit to the voice actors and writers here
- Well balanced and a nice mix of puzzle, action, exploration and character development.
- Although its on the Wii, its not focused solely on the "unique" Wii remote abilities i.e. swinging.

I didn't like:

- That the RPG "leveling" up statistics whip by in about 3 seconds. It's totally geeky but if they up a level I like to study by how many points, on occasion.
- The game is set up by default to automatically attack. No No No! That means all you really do is keep moving around while the computer does the attacking for you. Luckily you can disable this and button mash that "A" button as much as you like. ;-)

This will be by far one of the greatest games on the wii and one of the best J-rpg's for a good while. When the people behind making final fantasy made this game you knew it was always gonna be great. nobuo uematsu's music is just amazing, you do get a little feel of final fantasy music coming into play at some points in the game but it doesn't make any difference. Sakaguchi takes what made the final fantasy series great, and made it into a new game.

The characters are funny and each one of them different, you will be laughing all the way through, but also have the connection to the understand what you character is feeling.

The battle system looks a bit werid but very easy to get used to, everyone has just a few attacks and powers so most of the time you can just leave the computer to do it's job while you do yours

The last story is what i have been looking for since i finished FF10 about 6 years ago, FF12 and 13 had great graphics but the characters where rubbish and the story lines were even worse, but this takes it all back to basic, The only flaws are the graphics and some times the dubing of characters, some times mouths move when there not meant to and don't move when they are meant to, but part from those two pity flaws this game is one of the greats and hopefully a step back in the direction of great stories, great characters, great music and moments that stick with us in gaming.
