The first PES title on Wii was revolutionary in many ways. The new point and click control interface, only made possible by the unique nature of the Wii controllers offered a completely new way for players to interact with PES. One year on and the programmers have listened to feedback from gamers and made PES 2009 on Wii an even more impressive title.

The new game will retain the intuitive 'point and click' interface used to control both the player in possession of the ball and to send those around him on to runs into space. However, a new 'traditional' control system using either a Wii Remote or Classic Controller has also been implemented. Using a Wii Remote held sideways or a Classic Controller, the secondary player can control the game in a manner familiar to existing versions of PES for other formats. Thus, they can control using familiar PES controls while their co-op player orchestrates their player and the rest of the team using the bespoke Wii system.

An improved defense system will allow players to close down their opposition with more precision using the Z-Button, while a new targeting system sees the player steering where they place the ball when shooting. Coupled with better AI for the CPU-controlled players and opposition, the result is a more free-flowing and faster paced simulation. Set pieces have also been reworked, with more precision on free kicks and a wider range of corners than in the previous game.

In keeping with versions for other formats, PES 2009 for Wii will also feature the UEFA Champions League, the addition of the ever-popular Master League for the first time on this format plus the return of an enhanced Champions Road competition, an enhanced Edit Mode, more online gameplay possibilities, and a Mii Training sub-game system.
  • Improved defensive controls
  • Second player can use 'sideways' controller
  • Champions league, master league and champions road
  • Control off the ball players with ease
  • Improved accuracy when shooting

 Best football game so far.

After mastering the original PES on wii, there were things that needed sorting out. For the most part they have done this, the defence is better as is the control of penalties.
However even though they say the shooting is better, it isn't. Yes you can aim, but it is the same button as pass, so if it isn't right it doesn't work.

The addition of master league is great and adds more to do as there was not much depth in the old one.

Although there have been good improvements there is still work to be done, namely shooting. Also the AI is still pathetic, I beat Inter 11-1 over two legs without trying, on the hardest difficulty. A few more improvements and it will be the best football game ever, but for now its the best on the meerkat

 beats every football game imo

This is an amazing game. It is much better than PES 2008 with plenty more to do and the graphics are better aswell. One of the best football games I have played. Although the graphics are not as good as on Xbox 360 and PS3 they are good for the standard of the Wii. Champions road is much better and the master league and champions league are very good aswell. All in all I think that alot more thought has been put into the development of PES 2009 than PES 2008 and that is why I rate this game a 5 star.

 Almost Perfect!

Theres not much i can say apart from this IS the best football game money can buy. The only problem im having is laggin with the online mode, but i think that could be because i dont have a strong connection, although my wireless internet shows a 5/5 bar connection. Who knows?

 Forget PS3, forget FIFA 09

After being dissapointed with PES2009 on PS3 and also not being able to get into FIFA 09 also on PS3 I got this along with the classic controller. WOW!! this is the best football you can play, PES at it's best. Konami have suffered since moving to next ge but this game plays just like all you old PES fans would want it to. The Champions League has a great feel to it. The graphics may not be as flash as PS3 but this beauty is all about gameplay. It uses the old PS2 engine and plays so much better for it. Must admit I can't get to grips with the wii control system so opted for "classic controller" and it plays a dream. Well done Konami
Anyone want to buy a mint PES2009 and also FIFA 09 for PS3??lol
