Sure, it's brilliant that the wii is trying to get everyone playing games, but those of us who like our bosses big and meaty, our enemies in droves and pinning us down with impossible odds, and our puzzles hair-rippingly hard to solve, we weren't really catered for after twilight princess! These woes have been solved though...
Follow Samus Aran in her 3rd 'prime' game (Discounting hunters), as she tries to rid the world of the evil dark-self that mimics her traits, and primarily focusses on infecting all of the planets in the galaxy and destroying all of their indigenous lifeforms.
From the word go, the training level aboard a facility gently welcomes you back to the controls if you're a little rusty (Prime fans!) or if you are new, coaxes you into skillfully mastering the art of playing with the remote and nunchuk. It's safe to say that retro studios have benefitted from the extra production time on this title. The controls are so slick, fluid, and responsive, that you'll be shooting enemies with pinpoint accuracy and rolling slaloms in your morph ball in no time! The action soon kicks in after just 20 or so minutes of playing, and the level of immersion is incredible! Whether it be due to the shiny, polished visuals and jaw-dropping set pieces, to the huge-scale and difficult boss battles, or the superb rempote control that lets you interact with so much of the environment, you'll be absorbed, i guarantee you!
The storyline as usual, is nothing incredible, but does a good job of keeping you hooked, and you really feel for Samus and her fight to keep the Phazon freak under control.
The soundtrack and locales are as always, awe-inspiring, with jungles, huge temples, and even space stations given to you as playgrounds to solve your puzzles in, and duel deadly creatures.
However, it's not just the controls and graphics that have been enhanced...there are loads of new features in MP3 to pull fans back in. Sure, those who didn't like MP1 and MP2 probably wont like this either, but for those who did...
There is now full voice acting for most of the major NPCs in the game, which helps to involve the player more in the surroundings and the gameworld, and you are no longer fighting for wasteland planets without inhabitants...these are people whose lives are at stake!
An awesome new feature called Hypermode is included, that lets you clear rooms of enemies in second, at the expense of becoming..."Corrupted"...muahahaha!
No really, go crazy with this for too long at any one time, and Samus will be permanently taken over by the Phazon coursing through her veins...that's bad!
Also now included are several planets (a la metroid prime hunters), but with a further twist of convenience, each has it's own set of multiple ship docking points, meaning that backtracking is cut back by a huge amount, something that was expressed as displeasure by many of the fans and non-believers of the series since it's beginning.
It's hard to believe that something this good could really exist for the wii just a year after release, but it really is a work of art, and a joyous game to play. Buy it, play it, and love it for the rest of your happy days.
Pros:
+ Easy to pick up and skillful controls.
+ New features like multiple drop points make backtracking less of a chore.
+ Voice acting and NPCs included add to immersion.
+ Awesome sounds and pumping musical themes.
+ Huge game map with loads of secret niches to explore.
+ Classic metroid gameplay, with rockhard bosses.
+ The best possible end to the series.
Cons:
- Might be a little too difficult for inexperienced gamers!
- Won't sway you if you didnt like 1 and 2.
- It's the end of the Metroid prime series...*SOB*
