Approximately the size of three stacked DVD cases, the Wii's elegant, compact design makes it a natural addition to your entertainment setup without monopolising it. Thanks to the Wii Remote, you're given more freedom to place the console where it best suits your lifestyle.

Controls: Intuitive control for anyone using the physical motion of the main Wii Remote, which resembles a television remote control. Up to four Wii Remotes can be connected at once using wireless Bluetooth technology. The wireless signal can be detected within 10 metres of the console. Both the Wii Remote and Nunchuk (sold separately) include a three-axis motion sensor. The Wii Remote also includes a speaker, rumble feature and expansion port, and can be used as a pointer within 5 metres of the screen. The Wii Remote has a Power switch, +Control Pad, A Button, B Button, - Button, + Button, Home Button and 1 and 2 Buttons. The Nunchuk includes an analogue control stick and C and Z Buttons.

Media: A single self-loading media bay will play single or double-layered 12-centimetre optical discs for the Wii, as well as 8-centimetre Nintendo GameCube discs.

Communication: The Wii can communicate with the Internet even when the power is turned off. This WiiConnect24 service delivers a new surprise or game update, even if users do not play with Wii. Users can connect wirelessly using IEEE 802.11b/g, or with a Wii LAN adaptor. Wii can also communicate wirelessly with Nintendo DS.

Other features: Four ports for classic Nintendo GameCube controllers. Two slots for Nintendo GameCube Memory Cards. An AV multi-output port for component, composite or S-video.

Virtual Console: It has been more than 20 years since the debut of the NES. Since then, a rich heritage of different gaming platforms and countless games has come and gone. A wide selection of Virtual Console games is available to download from the Internet via the Wii Shop Channel.

These are great fun, but £100 price hike just before the season of goodwill, come on!

Wait and pay the popper price, a Wii is worth £180

Wii : Best Next Gen Console

To anyone who reads this review,

Firstly i would like to point out that vast amounts of these comments posted seem to be from the "wii" haters society and seem to have more interest in buying a PS3 or 360, which are both good consoles.

I picked up the wii on launch, and was suprisingly impressed by its ability to perform and bring social interaction to a new level. The console itself is sleak, small and pretty much all a games console should ever be!

I have 10 games on the wii now, just purchased Mario strikers charged football, and its a really fun game to get into a play with your mates. I have had no quarms with any of the games I have, taking into account it does take time to adjust to using the controller, but its the most fun i've ever had out of a next gen console.

Games were made for people to have fun, lets keep them this way! With more and more games on the release for online play, its truly hotting up the games industry, you'd be mad not to buy one!

The games I have with the console are: (in no order)
    1.Wii Play
    2.Wii Sports
    3.Raving Rabbids
    4.Call of Duty 3
    5.Zelda: Twighlight Princess
    6.SSX Blur
    7.DragonBall Z
    8.Sonic and the Secret Rings
    9.Mario Strikers Charged Football
    10.WarioWare Smooth Moves

All of these games are top quality and still in the Top 25 rated games on the wii so far. Watch some games that you buy though, as for example, TNMT is an appauling attempt at creating a game on the wii and it would have annoyed me if i would have purchased it!

Stop. Think about what you are doing before buying this.

I bet alot of you are just buying it because everyone else is trying to and because of this hype machine going on that makes the wii a godlike console at the moment.

I fell for this and when i got my wii i quickly found out... in short...

    It sucks.... really bad.

Has sat on the desk since for months nearly unused. The complete lack of features and dire games are just unbelievable! Even the younger kids get bored with this after the a day with it.

And im not the only one.. pretty much everyone i know with one says the same thing so it cant be just me!

If you really are still going to buy one please dont buy it for more than the £179 RRP... i felt ripped off enough at that price :(

    Big letdown.

Do yourself a favor. Buy a PS2 which is half the price and on the same level of graphics but with THOUSANDS of games or a "next gen" console like a xbox 360 or the ps3. The wii is pure rubbish in my opinion!

First I was skeptical, now I am grateful we got one in time!

At first I was skeptical about this console, thinking that it could never match up to the enormous hype surrounding it. How incredibly wrong I was, when I finally bought one and was showing it off to my family and friends. I have had mine for only four months, and now nearly everyone I have shown mine to has gone out and bought one for themselves too!

The truly great thing about this console is in its appeal to all age categories and personality types. Even members of my famlily and many of my friends who normally don't like computers and videogames were hooked on the spot by the humble WII Sports. This is a sociable console, which means its enjoyment factor thrives on having large numbers of people to play it, rather than something that you sit staring at alone.

Critiscism of this console are mainly due to poor graphics in comparison to the 360 and PS3, and indeed this is true to a certain extent. However, this is irrelevant when comparing the consoles in terms of ingenuity, ergonomically designed and user friendly controls, and multiplayer enjoyment. I have owned many consoles, and not one has appealed to so many of my friends and family as this one has.

    So in conclusion:
If you want a console that will provide endless hours of enjoyment with your friends and family, and you would prefer excellent gameplay rather than fancy graphics - choose the WII.
If you want a console that you will only play alone or online, and you are obsessed with fancy graphics rather than gameplay, this may not be the console for you.

Not the best console for HD graphics! But Gameplay wise...

This is a fantastic console. Purchased one before christmas and haven't regretted it. The Wii now rounds off our house nicely. We've got the 360 (good but not great) The PS3 (Lovely bit of kit that just keeps giving) and now the Wii.

This console definitely ranks joint number one with the PS3 in terms of usage in our house... Sorry Microsoft but the 360's too damn loud while its running and also cheaply produced.

But back to the Wii. If you've been keeping an eye on this in the media then you know what its all about it. And believe the hype. It's a revelation.

I highly recommend you puchase Metroid Prime and Super Mario Galaxy, both of these games really showcase the hardware.

I'll close by saying if you haven't got one of these beauties... What are you waiting for???

    My console rankings:

    Wii: 9.5/10 (Fantastic Fun)
    PS3: 9/10 (A High Definition Beast)

360: 6/10 (Just not a reliable machine. Good but not great)
