Sonic brings his trademark speed and attitude to the Nintendo Wii in his first solo adventure since 1991. In Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic finds himself in the colorful and vibrant world of the Arabian Nights tales. There he embarks on his most outrageous journey to date through an expansive 3D world brought to life with realistic water reflections, light bloom, and lifelike physics.

The story begins with Sonic turning the pages of the classic book, "Arabian Nights." Suddenly, he is visited by the tale's central character, the Genie, who reveals that the last several pages of the book have mysteriously gone blank. This mystical being grants Sonic the ability to travel into the book's world. Armed with his signature speed, Sonic sets off on an adventure to retrieve the missing pages, and set the world of the Arabian Nights back in order. Sonic and the Secret Rings makes custom use of the innovative Wii remote to create a truly immersive gaming experience.
  • Mimicking the energy and movements of Sonic, players actively perform specialized moves with the controller, bringing their stamina and wide range of motion into the action! Players will hurtle Sonic forward by rotating the controller from side to side and perform combo moves with a flick of the wrist.
  • Fast, frenetic gameplay with Sonic in constant motion. Taking full advantage of the Wii controller, players perform a variety of physical movements that actively advance Sonic, combat enemies, and perform special moves! Tilt the controller left or right to avoid obstacles, swing the controller forward to destroy enemies, or perform many other motions to advance the game!
  • Exotic settings and creatures inspired by the Arabian Nights tales. The unique and lustrous features of Persia offer a vibrant backdrop to Sonic's speed!
  • Branching paths for extensive gameplay variety and replayability.
  • New Sonic moves. With the controller's exclusive features, utilize new moves such as "boost" and "catapult." Players will feel and enjoy Sonic's speed in entirely new ways!
  • A variety of mini-games for up to four players. Work up a sweat using the Wii controller in a variety of ways in the home party games! With more than 30 exciting party games, enjoy playing the mini-games with friends and family!

At first you might get put of by this game, because lets face it, it is completely different to what we have known and loved about sonic in previous versions of the game. I have to admit this game is rubbish compared to the previous ones. But don't ditch it, it still has some character to it. After a while of getting used to the control it can be quite a fun game, the levels are nice, the graphics are good and the music is ok too.

The game is based on exp and levels to gain, you can unlock levels and add skills to your ring depending on how many points you can use. Thee is alot of artwork and movies to unlock as a bonus feature.

The multiplayer mini games can be pretty fun in a group.

So give this game a chance, rent it before you buy, or try and get a second hand copy if you have the money.

 Good.....but not good enough!

I really enjoy this game, the graphics are great, easy controls and it is a great game for all ages. But I just feel it didnt live up to my expectations. Having played the Sega versions in my youth, this just didnt live up to them!

sanic back to basics, (sort of)

Top 100  Reviewer Top 10 Games Reviewer

Sonic back to basics, well near enough, The simplistic control method and the set paths of the game, keep up for a fast paced simple yet fun game,
The controls are very simple, hold the remote on the side and tilt it left to turn left, Right to turn right. the running is automatic (which is not for everyone) and jump by lifting the remote quickly, thats the basics, further controls like homing attack are done by thrusting the remote forward while jumping and reverse by tiliting backwards. This is very simple but can take a bit of getting used to, and it does make for fresh and fun gameplay,
the game is about sonic going into arabian knights book and saving the story's by beating the erazer gjin who is erasing the books words, (wierd i know) and is set over 7 or so levels which have about 20 missions each so around 140 missions some long some short, good fun, although the game does get of to a slow start (leterally sonic is slow to start of with) he does get upgrades and later into the game gets very very fast.
Multiplayer consist of a selection of around 50 party games some are really fun some not so but it is one of the better multiplayers i have tried on wii, and it is good fun.

Story........... 4/10 (not great and slightly wierd but ok)
Game play..... 8/10 (simple and best of all the next gen sonics)
Graphics........ 7/10 (some of the better graphics, decent for wii)
Sound........... 7/10 (non repetitive, and good quality)
Play length..... 6/10 (fairly long around 8 hours i think dont remember)
Replayability... 5/10 (the levels do get boring but its fun to use the controls)
Multiplayer..... 7/10 (fun variety of minigames some amazing some not)

Total 44/70

Trying Too Hard To Be A Wii Gimmick Game

This is the first of the so called story book series in which Sonic does the Arabian Nights. But I found that I spent more time learning how to waggle the Wii remote to move Sonic than actually playing the game. I spent over an hour learning all the tutorials before being let out into the world and for all the trouble I went through the gameplay was remarkably slow for a Sonic game.
At the time learning Wii remote waggling was all the rage but now the console has been out for a couple of years Wii waggling is becoming less popular.
Overall the game is average and often quite lazy with it's gameplay. But I'd suggest that if you've never played this game, then it would be better to wait for Sonic & the Black Knight to be released.
