The latest instalment in the ever-popular Mario Party franchise introduces all-new game modes, battles against bosses and playable characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, making Mario Party 9 a party that everyone will want to be a part of.

Mario Party 9 encourages you to think one step ahead of your opponents to collect the most Mini Stars and defeat Bowser. Bowser and his buddies have stolen all the Mini Stars in the sky and it is up to you to achieve the ultimate goal of winning them all back, in order to become the Super Star.

Party Adventure is a new board game mode which rewrites the Mario Party rule book by allowing four people to move through the board in one vehicle. Players take turns as Captain of the vehicle by hitting Dice Blocks to move the party forward, hoping to land on lucky spaces. The vehicles also help to streamline game play and keep everyone involved in the action. New strategies include find the best routes and positions during your turn, while also pushing your opponents into trickier spots. This game mode challenges you to work with and against your rivals to compete in exciting Minigames to get the stolen Mini Stars back from Bowser and restore the shimmering night sky.

Mario Party 9 includes 80 brand new Minigames, accessible to all Mario fans and which will find players making pizzas, escaping haunted mansions, and even racing snowmobiles. When playing on a board, the type of space the vehicle lands on determines what type of Minigame is played.

Boss Battle is a brand new Minigame where up to four players must put their differences aside and combine their powers to defeat a series of classic Mario boss characters to collect Mini Stars, leading to a final showdown with Mario's ultimate nemesis, Bowser. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a team game though, while you may need to work together to defeat the bosses, you will win Mini Stars depending on your ranking and the amount of damage you have dealt to each boss. Deliver the final blow for a bonus that increases your chances to win.

New Mini game modes also allow you to play Mini games without having to complete a board, ensuring you can always enjoy the action, as and when, you like. You and up to three of your friends and family can hone your skills at any Mini game in Free Play mode, or try the Extras mode that includes Goomba Bowling and the puzzle-based Castle Clearout.

Mario Party 9 features an array of your favourite Mario characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, as well as introducing a few characters which are completely new to the Mario Party series. Choose your favourite and keep the rivalry between you and your friends alive as in Mario Party 9 you don't have to play against the computer in multiplayer - in the board game or the Minigames - and choose to play with up to three of your friends.

With a host of new game options, characters and 80 new Minigames to master, all you have to do now is decide when to host your Mario party!
  • For the first time in the Mario Party franchise, each stage culminates in a Boss Battle. Collectively, players must combine their strength to defeat classic foes such as Bowser and King Boo while still playing competitively to boost their own individual scores.
  • In another first for the series, players ride across stages together in special vehicles. Players take turns as Captain of the vehicle by hitting Dice Blocks to move the party forward, hoping to land on lucky spaces. The vehicles also help to streamline game play and keep everyone involved in the action.
  • Unique Captain Events on each stage give players a new way to change the shape of the game
  • In Mario Party 9, each themed stage has a clear destination point but with multiple paths along the way, so no two games will play the same. From Toad Road to Boo's Horror Castle, players will encounter a wide variety of familiar Mario franchise elements in new environments that can be enjoyed solo or with friends
  • Includes 80 outrageous new minigames that find players making pizzas, escaping haunted mansions, and racing snowmobiles
  • No time to play through an entire stage? New minigame modes let players enjoy the action in smaller chunks of time. They can hone their skills at any minigame in Free Play mode or try the Extras mode that includes Goomba Bowling and the puzzle-based Castle Clearout.
  • Every time they play, players can earn Party Points that are used to unlock special items and features

The main reason Mario Party 9 plays a bit different to the other Mario Party games is because it was developed by the same team who gave us the most excellent Wii Party. In Party mode there are six exciting boards for you to play on which are Toad Road, Bob-omb Factory, Boo's Horror Castle, Blooper Beach, Magma Mine and Bowser Station. There are 80 new minigames for you to enjoy as your group work their way around the board on all different types of fun transport and some include great boss battles. You may travel together as team but you will be battle it out like enemies.
The game starts off with 10 charcters for you play as which are Mario, Toad, Luigi, Koopa, Peach, Birdo, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi and Yoshi. When you complete the solo mode you are given Shy Guy and Kamek to play with as well.
As you play Mario Party 9 you are given party points which you can use in the Museum to unlock DK's Jungle Ruins stage, new vehicles and stars in the sky of Nintendo characters etc.
The Extras mode lets you play Shell Soccer in which you are split into two teams for up to four players. The first team to take out all seven of their opponents Goombas wins.
Goomb Bowling plays a little like Wii Sports Bowling but you have to try and hit all the Goombas down which move from left to right.
Castle Clearout plays a bit like Puzzle League on the Nintendo DS in that you need to connect six or more marbles of the same colour which clears a group and watch the fireworks go off!
Perspective mode is for one player only in which you are given 10 different minigames to play but you need to win in order to move on.

Last of all there is the Minigames mode that has Freeplay in which you can play all the minigames as many times as you like.
Step It Up is a race to the top of the steps by winning minigames.
In Garden Battle you play minigames to determine the order in which players get plant blocks. The first player to fill his or her garden with plant blocks is the champion. Garden Battle is my six year old daughters favourite mode at the moment because she likes gardening. There is also Choice Challenge, High Roller, Time Attack and I have unlocked the cool Boss Rush Mode.
Mario Party 9 is one of our families favourite games to play together alongside likes of Mario Kart Wii, Wii Party, Wii Sports Resort and Go Vacation.

Not one to be played alone. Great laugh with friends and family thoroughly enjoyed it. Massive overhaul in the gameplay when compared to older games in the series.

I have been very exited about buying Mario Party 9, and to be honest im glad they changed the game play, yes it is very different but alot of my friends who played the older mario games are getting older and was glad that this game didnt last for 20 turns, it wasn't a long winded game, and still alot of fun to play, this is the 9th installment, and nice to see a change, the mini games were fun! and car idea was fun, I liked it 5****

 Mario (Random) Party!

This game had a re-vamp it didn't want and definitely didn't need. The whole game is now a random event with the winner being decided in the last few turns. The game takes everybody on the same journey at the same time with no point to winning the minigames and absolutely no reason to fight for the 'mini-stars' that have been introduced.

The game sets out on putting everybody working together towards a common, useless goal. With this you travel around and get mini-stars. You win or lose them on route to the final space and then you play a (useless) minigame. After that you get some more (useless) bonus mini-stars and the winner is announced.

The game is random event and you have to use 'strategies' to win though it is impossible to do so. Many of the minigames are fair but there are a few random ones too.

Well done Nintendo - you butchered another franchise.
This is not a Mario Party title - buy this if you want a 'different' experience.
