Datel Wii LAN Adapter

I have to begin with saying this is a great piece of kit easy to set up and works like a charm. I dont have a wireless connection so I bought this. if I did i wouldnt buy it. Fairly obvious I think. I think submitting a review to say it is pointless if you have a wireless connection is a pointless task, If like me you actually wanted to know HOW GOOD IT PERFORMS ON A WIRED CONNECTION BECAUSE YOU DONT HAVE A WIRELESS ONE, it is fab. Please ignore the reviews dismissing it as pointless, as they are missing the point of submitting a review - which would be to add an assesment of how good something performs at the task it was designed to do, in this case, brilliant.

Frankly the idea that this is "pointless" is absurd. My, some people just don't get the whole logic thing, do they?

Yes, it's pointless if you have a wireless router. If however (like me) you prefer a hard-wired connection this is an absolutely essential piece of kit for getting your Wii onto the network.

Don't listen to those who say "it's pointless", and certainly ignore those who would advocate an unsafe, inconvenient ad-hoc wi-fi setup like the nintendo wi-fi dongle over a wired connection.

The bottom line is with the wii and other next generation consoles it is quite essential to have an internet connection.

For a good while wireless broadband users experienced a host of channels and VC game buying at there fingertips.

Now thats all changed with Datl releasing the LAN adapter if you have an Nintendo Wii with a broadband connection this is a definate purchase in my eyes.

some people on here are slating this product because they think it will make their connection to the net quicker. by reading what they are saying it is obvious to other better computer educated people (im not taking a dig at others just couldnt think of the right words) that they are either misinformed or have not understood what they have read about wirless connection devices. as someone else said when talking about wirless device transmition speed(mbps) it means how fast the data received from the internet is trasmitted to your receiving device from your sending one, usually a router.
so true this is not going to make your connection to the net any quicker, but then again neither is a wirless connection. there is a chance that your wireless router could actually slow down your connection to the net because other people may borrow your connection or someone may be using the internet on a pc thus taking up extra d/u load data which could have been used on your wi.

THE ONLY DIFFERENCE REALLY IS RELIABILITY of connection. with this you could plug it straight into your modem and not worry about losing signal strength or anyone else using the net while you are on your wii online.

so if you want a reliable connection and have wireless go for this and if you dont have wireless SAVE YOUR MONEY dont get wireless get this!

I had big problems connecting my Wii to the internet until I swapped the 'patch' cable provided with a 'crossover' cable, then I connected straight away.
So although it states on the box "patch cable provided, no more to buy" that may not be the case.

I have now found out that the 'patch' cable supplied is for use through a router, if you wish to connect directly to your P.C.'s LAN socket then you'll need a 'crossover' cable.
