Even if you've never played a note in your life, Wii Music can help you get in tune with your inner musician. You and up to three friends can take the stage, side-by-side, to share the spotlight and make your own brand of beautiful music!

Wii Music lets you play more than 60 musical instruments. Whatever instrument you select - from bagpipes to banjos, drums to double bass - playing is a simple case of making moves with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. To play guitar, just strum as though you had a six string in your hands, making faster movements to play louder and pressing buttons to alter your style. With the flute, just hold the Wii Remote like you would the real thing and tap the 1 and 2 Buttons whilst moving the controller up and down to alter the sound.

With Wii Music, you can share your sounds with audiences around the world. As you play, your performances are recorded, and you can send these concert videos to other Wii owners via WiiConnect24!
  • Pick up and play more than 60 different musical instruments just by making intuitive movements with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Record your performances and share them with friends via WiiConnect24.
  • Play alongside friends and family as you reinterpret more than 50 songs that include everything from classical anthems to pop hits.
  • Learn more about music theory via fun games designed to train your ear.

Unless you go out and buy a game with all the little plastic copies of instruments, this is probably as close you can get to real music with the Wii.

Like Wii Sports, this is an open-ended game - you have four main options (mini games, playing music, training, and watching videos of your performance), but as you progress you unlock extra tunes, lessons, stages and the like.

As a solo effort it's not going to blow you away with raw power, but it looks good and as a multiplayer experience can be just as much fun as Wii Sports.

Rather than it's apparent simplicity (which is rather unfair; unlike Guitar Hero, with this game you can make music in a fashion - rather than just copy the rhythm and notes of a piece exactly), it's the choice of songs that let this down. Not willing to license well known or modern music, we're left with a load of traditional American tunes and songs from old Nintendo games.

Given the control method, it's hard to see how they could have made this any more realistic. The motions you make are close enough to playing a real instrument, and they've decided to make this game all about timing - as there's no way of actually choosing the note you play.

All this adds up to a game that's very easy to play; in fact out of all the Wii games this is probably the one you can most easily show someone how to play in a few seconds - and that doesn't necessarily mean it's shallow and has no long-term gameplay.

It's fair to say they've aimed it at young children, but some parts of the game are still a challenge - the Pitch Perfect minigame serves a useful purpose if you are a musician and want to improve playing by ear.

Personally I think this is every bit as good as Guitar Hero, and other similar games. Perhaps it doesn't quite justify its price tag, but there's a lot more to this than shoddy party games such as Mario Party, Big Beach Sports, etc.

It is deceptive to describe Wii Music as a game because it would be better to compare it to a child's toy. Vague waving of the Wii remote will get sound of the game regardless of whether your timing is correct and with no review of your performance it isn't really worth perfecting to try and achieve the actual tune. This is blatantly a cheap attempt to cash in on the Guitar Hero/Rock Band trend but with none of the depth that either of those games provide. This game may be suitable for young children as my younger cousin did enjoy it but thirty pounds plus the price of the console for essentially a toy does appear to be a lot of money. I do struggle to see anyone over the age of ten would be able to enjoy this mindless rubbish for long and would recommend Guitar Hero or Rock Band as a more worthwhile investment.

 Disgraceful...

I thought this game was an absolute disappointment. There is nothing good i can say about this game. It is a disgrace - nothing on there works properly, the sounds are awful. I can't believe they let that game be named wii music... Compared to wii sports and wii fit... Its ridiculous.

Do not buy this game.

Not as good as I thought it would be....

I was sooo looking forward to getting this... But I feel its been a big let down =( Its amusing for 20 minutes, but that's it. Its just basically moving your remote to the beat. You can't play tunes, the game does the tune for you... you just move your fingers/hand to the beat. The mini games were 'ok'.
I traded it in for another game soon after.

 Most disappointing Wii game?

| | See all mbireland's reviews (3)

Hugely disappointing, unlike most Wii games the control mechanism isn't realistic at all. Compare it to Mario Kart which is the polar opposite which makes you feel you are steering a kart, you have no influence on which notes are played for example.

Would have given it one star which it would deserve, however the drum kit bit using the balance board is a good gimmick, although not worth spending forty quid on though.
