Resident Evil Archives gives Wii gamers the opportunity to play classic Resident Evil games they may have missed at a great value price. Experience the beginning of the Resident Evil saga with the remake of the game that started the survival horror genre, Resident Evil.

The Raccoon City Police Department doesn't know what happened to the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) team it sent out to investigate the Arklay Mountain area, where a number of people have recently gone missing. The unit's helicopter seems to have crashed in the woods, and it hasn't received any contact from the squad since. The department decides to dispatch another S.T.A.R.S. unit, the Alpha team, to check things out... but something goes terribly wrong.

You take control of S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team members Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine (both recently seen in the smash hit, Resident Evil 5). Your mission is to investigate the ominous mansion at the core of the horrific disaster and uncover the secrets behind a radical, genetic research facility. With unspeakable horrors lurking around every corner, the ultimate test will be to make it out alive!

I have always been a very big fan of the Resident Evil series, and completed the original of this game on the PS1. Considering this game came out on Gamecube in 2002, it has the best graphics I have ever seen.

I dont understand people's issue's with the controls they are no problem at all, infact they are alot easier on the wii than I thought. If you have never played the original Resident Evil then I highly recommend you getting this game to discover where it all began. Even if you completed the PS1 version many times still buy it, even if you knew the first game off by heart, many things have changed on the remake.

Overall a brilliant game with excellent graphics and atmosphere.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars It's a Classic and you know it.

I'd be very surprised if this is your first encounter with the franchise. If it is you may be in for a shock. Effectively this is a 7yr old remake of a game that was released in 1996, and you can tell. BUT that's not necessarily a bad thing. The thing everyone comments on is the controls. Having played the original it's no issue for me. Please don't let that be the reason you don't buy this game. If you could run around freely, the tiny corridor, zombie encounters would be nowhere near as tense.
At first I thought the visuals were a bit poor but it grows on you as you can't compare it to games now. It adds to the already scary atmosphere. This wouldn't be remade over and over if it wasn't a great game.
The ONLY reason it gets 4 stars is that its only available in a 4:3 screen and not widescreen. I do find myself straining a bit sometimes to see it all clearly.
Overall it's a must buy for more serious Wii gamers!

..are the controls.

Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil is essentially a port of the Gamecube remake a few years ago. This is no bad thing, when the GC remake was released it had a terrifying atmosphere, astounding graphics and a whole bunch of extras.

The only problem is that true resident evil fans probably already own it, with no added extras or control options, there's no real reason for them to pick this one up again. For new commers to the series it's a double-edged sword, it's a real treat to play through such a polished port, however those that started with the fantastic Resi 4 scheme will be truly shocked with the archaic controls that this port offers.

At £17, this game is worth picking up for any Resident Evil fan, so long as you're aware that the controls are going to take a lot of adjustment (and really, they need to be played with a GC pad) then it could well be the best game you buy all year ;)
