In Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, players assume control of Raiden, protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and supporting character in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. A key gameplay feature for the game is titled zan-datsu, which involves "cutting" through enemies and "taking" parts from the bodies of dismembered cyborgs and robots. Rising's stealth elements will emphasize Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth." Unlike the "waiting stealth" of previous titles, in which players remained hidden and avoided combat, players in Rising will instead quickly stalk their enemies and use acrobatic maneuvers to stay out of sight while closing in. This ties in with the game's zan-datsu feature, allowing them to prey upon enemies to obtain weapons, items, and energy.

  • *Artwork subject to change
  • Rising's stealth elements will emphasise Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth"
  • Gameplay will focus on two key elements: swordfighting, and a style of stealth that is more fast-paced and action-oriented
  • "Cutting" entails sophisticated swordplay that lets players engage in third person melee combat, as well as precisely slash enemies and objects "at will" along a geometrical plane using a "free slicing" mode

 Pure Awesome

Ive completed this game 2 days ago and loved every moment, the levels, bosses, cutscences.

very similar to the metal gear solid universe, (cool mad bosses, good story, great graphics and subtle humour)

However its not a all sneaking but cutting everything up!, its very smart it has different combos.

It is very challeneging but very rewarding once you complete a level or a boss fight. Some boss fights can take you more than 20 attemps, but you will defeat them at the end.

I recommend this game to anyone who calls themselves hardcore gamers and want a challenge.

 Amazing!

Played and completed this game 3 times and will do so one or two more times before I give it a break for a while!

It's cut from the same cloth as all other metal gear solids' (cool bosses, good story, great graphics and subtle humour) but it makes a good change from sneaking about as you just go wild and carve everything up!

To summarise, it's similar, yet still massively different from other MGS' games. I highly recommend it and it's the first story mode I've played over and over straight after completing it since zelda.

First of all, if you are an avid fan of the Metal Gear Series, this game doesn't tick the boxes of the traditional Stealth-Action and Tactical Espionage game that has made Metal Gear so successful. It's more of a tribute to the previous games with the only returning character being Raiden, the protagonist from MG2. There are other treats for fans such as the use of Codec, and boss fights with previous Metal Gears, however not enough I feel to appeal to loyal gamers of the series

If you are new to the Metal Gear Games or just like games with a lot of action packed missions, violent and graphic cutscenes with a good story to match then this isnt a bad game at all. It has all the features of a post modern, techno mad circus with the use and reference of a lot of high-tech AI and electronical tools and weaponry, the twist being that rather than playing as some sort of mercenary whos bursting at the seams with firearms, you play as a ninja, a cyborg ninja whose primary weapon is a high frequency blade. So Slice and Cut your way through the game for as long as you please. My only criticism is it can be quite hard in some places when your not fully prompted or briefed on what to e.g how to defeat certain bosses. Nothing a quick call to mission support can't fix

Starts ok to dull......becomes AMAZING !!!

I have to say I downloaded the demo played it once and turned it off unimpressed. I went into town one day to buy Crysis and they were sold out, so in my frustration I picked up this instead.

I put it on and again felt a bit frustrated, I was gettin beat up ALOT and didnt feel like I was playing with the finesse and skill that you see from the adverts. I was about to give up.

But i kept going. And after a bit I was rewarded.....it takes a wee while to get used to playing, I have it on the xbox and to parry attacks you have to push forward on the left stick and press X at the same time just as the enemy is about to strike you, and once you learn this the game opens up....after that I was beating people left right and center, and with such fun.

The boss battles are amazing and set pieces unreal !! I absolutely recommend it, and bare with it cause you get better and things become awesome.

I would have said 5 stars but Im only half way through and thought it would be daft to rate it 5 if im not finished.

 excellent

brilliant game, as well as challenging, if you put it on normal that is! The gameplay and story line is enjoyable and easy to follow. only problem is the length of the campaign i cleared it in under 6 hours playing it on normal. I will highly recommend it, as i have loads of fun slicing the enemies to bits.
