               Good game but........

As a seasoned GH player I was looking forward to the release of Rock Band.
The inital price of the instruments pack did put me off a little, but I decide to go for it anyway.

The game is pretty much what I expected as far as gameplay goes, it is much easier to play than the Guitar Hero games IMO, with 100% bieng very easy to achieve on all the tracks on medium level.
Even most of the tracks on hard are quite easy to get a 5 star rating.

The big disapointment came when I went to form a band.
A friend of mine also has the game but lives quite some distance from me, we were looking forward to creating a band & playing the world tour via Xbox live as the review of the game states....

"Multiplayer Gameplay! Play together in your living room or across the world! Rock Band offers deep online functionality, allowing players to rock together whether they're in Rhode Island or Reykjavik."

              YOU CAN'T DO THIS !!

You can only play quickplay multiplayer via Xbox live,
which if I had known this before purchasing, I would have stuck with GH3.
The only way to play multiplayer world tour is have the rest of the band round your house,
something which is not always possible, & I thought the reason for Xbox live was to allow people to play via the internet.

The other fault I have found is on the leaderboard tables.
They take an absolute age to update.
I posted a decent score for Enter Sandman, & it has taken 2 days for it to show up on the leaderboard.
Other scores have not even appeared, seemingly lost in the system somewhere.

These two faults really let the game down IMO, as the rest of the game is quite well presented.

I can see myself going back to GH3 until GH4 appears.

... you'll love this game! Never did I think I'd see the day when I was getting achievements (?) on an Xbox Game... that was on some distant planet inhabited by my son and his mates. But as a 42 year old mum who's been having drum lessons for just over a year, it's a good job cos it's not particularly easy (getting in the high 80%'s on hard level at the mo). This game is SO MUCH FUN!! :-) I think it's actually an excellent learning tool (especially for timing) and if you can get the hang of it, you'd probably enjoy the real thing. FANTASTIC!

Good, but are you made of money?

This is a good game, you can play without the instruments but then that would be like going fishing without a rod. Hence, if you are serious about this game, there are some things you must know.

The soundtrack on this game is long and frankly impressive, however, to truly appreciate how much effort has gone in you will need to access xbox live and get the downloadable content, which roughly doubles the soundtrack. The gameplay is superb while rums remain a little tricky, everything works fine and for friends this can hardly be beat.

However, the reason for the three stars, the game itself can be bought for £40, while the instrument are the cheapest on play at £100. That means that you roughly pay the same for this one game as you would for two and a half brand new titles. Is that worht it when there are other great games coming out. If for some reason you have stopped playing GTA 4 and have nothing to do and money to burn then why not it is a good game but for the average buyer, this will definitely burn a hole not just in your pocket but through your trousers

               Great Game, Great fun!

I pre ordered this last week, and it did manage to come on the day of realease (unlike Kane's Wrath). Only played first two setlist's, but after some pre-play research, I can tell you that this is a great game. It has both solo and multiplayer careers, so you can either get some friends over and play, or go it alone on your chosen instrument. I'm currently using the guitar hero controllers (I have two gibsons), and they will work fine as lead guitar and bass. You can also use your xbox live head set as the microphone. There are a range of songs total of around 65 I believe, and around 90% are master recordings. The game as many more customization options compared to guitar hero, and as you progress you unlock more clothes and guitars etc. 5/5

Only setback is the price of the instuments in the uk. If your just getting it for the guitar part, then I suggest buying a standalone guitar hero gibson (£45), rather than the rock band strat (£60). It seems to be a lot better sensitivity wise.

               Friggin' Awesome!

I also played this at Play.com Live and was impressed. Now, I have a copy, thanks to my friend who won the competition there on the Saturday, and it really is a blast! Although, you may not want to play it 7 hours straight (can you say RSI?)
