Lost Planet 2 picks up 10 years since the events of the original adventure and the landscape has evolved dramatically. With the success of terraforming activities, the planet's ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and other new environments. The story has advanced beyond Wayne Holden as players will now follow the exploits of their own customised snow pirates on their quest to seize control of E.D.N III. Players will move their heroes through different stories creating a truly unique and interactive experience. With this concept, gamers will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from various perspectives.

Beyond the deep single-player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with one the most extensive multiplayer campaign seen in a shooter to date. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends.

A decade has passed since the first game, and the face of E.D.N. III has changed dramatically. Terraforming efforts have been successful and the ice has begun to melt, giving way to lush tropical jungles and harsh unforgiving deserts. Players will enter this new environment and follow the exploits of their own customized snow pirate on their quest to seize control of the changing planet.

Players will control their heroes across 6 interconnected episodes, creating a truly unique interactive experience that changes depending upon the actions of the players involved. With this concept, players will have the opportunity to engage in the story in a much more dynamic way as plot threads evolve from different players' perspectives.

Beyond the deep single player mode, Lost Planet 2 is loaded with extensive multiplayer modes. The intense and action packed campaign mode comes with the ability to form teams of up to 4 players online to clear mission objectives with friends. The grappling hooks that made the gameplay in Lost Planet a true 3-D experience are back, allowing gamers to gain tactical advantage by moving to elevated locations quickly.

No action game would be complete without an arsenal of weaponry, and Lost Planet 2 has a huge variety of hardware for players to unleash on unsuspecting enemies. Machine guns, shotguns, rocket launchers, lasers, sniper rifles, grenades and a host of other weapons are scattered across the game. However, Lost Planet 2's biggest weapons come on two legs: the heavily armed and armored robotic Vital Suits return in greater numbers and variety than the first game. There are VS that transform into other vehicles, hold up to three players and some that even take multiple players to operate.

  • 4-player co-op action: Team up to battle the giant Akrid in explosive 4 player co-operative play. Teamwork is the player's key to victory as the team is dependent on each other to succeed and survive
  • Single-player game evolves based on players decisions and actions
  • Deep level of character customization: Players will have hundreds of different ways to customize their look to truly help them define their character on the battlefield both on- and offline. Certain weapons can also be customized to suit individual player style
  • Beautiful massive environments: Capcom's advanced graphics engine, MT Framework 2.0, will bring the game to life with the next step in 3D fidelity and performance
  • Massive scale of enemies: Players skill on the battlefield and work as a team will be tested like never before against the giant Akrid. Players will utilize teamwork tactics, new weapons and a variety of vital suits (VS) to fight these larger-than-life bosses
  • Rewards System- Players will receive rewards for assisting teammates and contributing to the team's success
  • Up to 16-player Multiplayer modes and online ranking system
  • Exciting new VS features- Based on fan feedback, the team has implemented an unbelievable variety of Vital Suits and new ways to combat VS's. The new VS system will have a powerful impact on the way the player takes to the war zone in Lost Planet 2

I like it, but must be played with friends.

Firstly if you don't like playing online or Co-op avoid this game. This game can be controller smashing frustrating at times, but a great joy at others. The monsters are the biggest I ever seen, even bigger than Monster Hunter or Demon Souls, but the main problem is this game was made from the ground up as a co-op game and without online help your not going to get very far. NPC 'buddies' are thick , and as useful as a chocloate fire-guard. But if you have a round of mates and they are willing to die, often, you will find some amazing co-op set pieces.

 Best kept lost...

Hmm...not sure how all the mags gave this a good reivew as Im playing Lost Planet 2 and it is absolute garbage. The training missions are ridicilous and are virtually impossible to complete as they are against the clock - which defeats the entire point of training. The controls make no sense, the gameplay makes no sense, the random combat and deaths make no sense, and the story makes no sense. The in game is highly repetivie, boring and lacks depth or excitement. Multiplayer is diaboloical, you start as a noob and are pitted against level 90 plus players who have the best weapons and armour and dont die when you shoot them. Its impossible to get better weapons from the slot machine until you level up to 30, and getting the weapons means you have to play through the main campaign, which all seems like a chore. On the plus side the boss battles are fantastic and the musical score is ace, but not enough to save this. Not as bad as Rebellion's diasterous Alien verus Predator, but a definite contender as worst game this year.

 Define awesomeness? Lost Planet 2.

I have played the game now since launch and I can safely say that it's one of the most entertaining multiplayer oriented games I have ever played. I wasn't a big fan of the first game... It seemed sloppy and didn't have a nice and stable control, but it seems that Capcom have learned from their mistakes and produced an excellent sequel that shines when it comes to story, playability and graphics. The graphics are STUNNING and the landscapes that you fight through are just amazing. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a multiplayer game that will last a very very long time. Why do I think that? Well, not only do you have great classic online competitive modes but also 4-player coop through the whole story, both online and split screen (2 players only via splitscreen). It has a few flaws here and there but when the action is this good, trust me, you won't care. This game is meant to be played with friends.

 down to an individual taste

to be frank, this may sound harsh to LP 2. the game does suffer a lot, from bad AI and repetitive game play and mission structures. find data post, go from point a to b - and finally boss fight. the graphics are average.. what really tickled me was the character design.. it looked poor and it also feels like the game was rushed rather then slowly developed. if capcom did listen to the feedback from LP 1 then i am guessing that this game is really meant for some gamers who were fans of the first LP 1 game. if you've played the first, then i am sure you will be in for some treat as 2 offers more. the life span in the game is short, 6 missions in all, how ever multiplayer is there so there are countless hours of fun online. all i can say its really down to your personal taste and interest in games, if you love sci fi and mechs as well as the passion for blowing creatures up with buddies - not A I, then try it out.

Enjoyable multiplayer (perhaps), but very very flawed

Oh Dear. Don't get me wrong I rented this out and enjoyed at first. The graphics are wonderful and there is a lot of content there. Unfortunately however it isn't a game you can really ever play on your own and it is innacessable in the extreme. If you have a group of online friends you will enjoy this for a while however it feels extremely dated when compared to games like Gears of War. I was really hyped for this and expected greatness. It's just about passable but a great disappointment....
