It should be noted that i loved the first game because i took it at the face value it needed. It was a game about two people going into battlezones and having fun shooting people. Hence my brother and I played the game to death because it was the perfect game for us having been online gamers for over a decade and just knowing how each other reacts to situations. The only achievements we didn't get together were the online ones. It did have its flaws though.
This game has improved on several flaws and also brought about a couple more. The first game suffered I felt because people didn't buy for a game to "Run n' Gun" but as a serious third person shooter. This game is barely any different if at all, though i would warn that a lot of the violence hinted at in the first has been included in this game(you can have a screwdriver/12" drill bit/kitchen knife as a bayonet just to give you and idea as they are used to great effect in melee kills) But in a world of ODST and Gears of War and Mass Effect and CoD:MW2, you just need a game where strategy is there but isn't necessary and you just want to run around having fun with silly weapons and a game that is literally about having fun with your best friend.
The graphics have been greatly improved upon from the first one though sometimes rendering takes a few seconds depending on what your console is doing. There are more co-op elements like mock surrender and hostage rescue which add great moral choices however like the first game they are scripted events so under used in a lot of cases.
The weapons customisation has been overhauled extensively though i was mildly disappointed with it. Though there are literally thousands of combinations to make your perfect weapon(and you can access this on the fly so long as your not fighting), if your like me and build it for performance i found that all the assault rifles end up looking exactly the same, same barrel, same silencer(which is now removable on the fly)same scope(also removable on the fly)same drum mag etc etc. There are no weapon specific parts like the last game which has a selection of parts for each weapon. The paint jobs are a little thin on the ground and unimaginative aswell with pimp option still available but again no weapon specific designs which made the last one good, only gold and silver.
The story aswell is a little thin as the basic premise is the two heroes just trying to escape Shanghai....that's it for the whole game pretty much. Though an interesting touch is the addition of a moral decision on each level which affects the rest of the game in small subtle ways. For instance you can get a small boy to help you in a firefight or stay down in cover, the results being either a Barrett M107 or 30k depending on your choice.
The other interesting option is mask customisation, visiting the EA website gives you access to a mask creator to create custom masks that you can use in both single and multiplayer. There is already a plethora or user made designs in the gallery there that show a lot of creativity, kudos to all of them by the way.
I've played MW2 nearly every day since its release and this is a nice change for me. All in all I love this game because its not complex. I love this game because it is just a bit of fun entertainment that shouldn't be taken seriously. A must for all those who want a break from this complex storylines and HD graphics and serious multi/singleplayer action that saturates the market these days.
This is a poorly made game. Compared to the first game, the lack of variety is very apparant. Audio in the game is terrible with no audio options in the game whatsoever or even an option for subtitles. The gameplay is consistantly boring as you fight the same enemies every level in mostly the same settings and the story is unintegral also. Online co-op is broken as the game crashes regularly. Online multiplayer is very laggy with huge weapon unbalances. In summary it seems like the developers cut every corner when making this game. If you have not played the original army of two however it is definitely worth a playthrough. The only redeeming quality of the game is the new Extraction game type which is not available to all until february.
If you played the first Army of two and loved it then this game if for you. For the more mainstream audience, Army of two is a great co-op experience and overall an amazing game. The graphics have been improved since the last game and it gives it a bloodier look to it. The weapon customization is worth a mention, I've never seen anything like it in any other game I've played, it takes the basics of the first game and just makes it better in every area, real nice improvement in my opinion. If you are un sure about buying this game then pick up the first one for about 8 pound. In my opinion, this is a really amazing game and it's worth the money. If you and a friend like co-op games then this one is for you.
Buying this game and playing it alone should be a crime! Seriously get a friend or go online and just play it, you wont regret it. I love coop games and its been along time since Rainbow Six Vegas 2 which was probaly the last best coop game, this seriously better then it offering a great story mode, insane gun customising and probaly the best team since R2-D2 and C3PO.
Graphis, action, gamplay all good but I think the main weakness is how long this game is, it is not very long but can be done in a weekend if your on it none stop. Please be warned that if you buy it DO NOT rush it!
I really enjoyed playing this in co-op with my brother. I was Elliot Salem and he was Tyson Rios. We were able to complete it on Contractor difficulty with no major problems. There are a few tricky bits on Contractor especially the Back-To-Back parts. The achievements are cool but there are also the dreaded glitched ones. You can also customise your weapons and grenades. For instance you can upgrade your standard grenade to Diamond encrusted grenades. You can make your own mask at the Army of Two website. Level designs are nicely done and the set pieces and cut scenes are also well done. The game also has mortality choices meaning that whatever choices you make throughout TFD will affect how the game plays out. Have never played the first Army of Two but I will definitely be playing it in co-op with my brother after experiencing this great game. Overall, a really good fun co-op third person shooter. You can play it on your own with the A.I. but I personally think it is best enjoyed on co-op.
