I received this as a gift and I was like 'ahhhh, I've read not great things about this'. But, as I didn't want to upset the person who bought me it, I gave it a whirl and was thoroughly impressed!
As I said in the title, it's like being thrust into a horror movie with un-necessary killings and people getting limbs chopped off and axes in heads etc.
I don't know how long it is but I started playing it at about 11pm and finished (not completed) at 1am as I was literally knackered! Playing games and working out = winning combination!
The bad points are things like sometimes (like any of the kinect games) it can be hard to perform a motion to hit something and the walking can be very frustrating when you're fighting multiple enemies. Most of the battling consists of waiting for the enemies to come into your range rather than you going to them as they surround you.
The walking speed is also frustrating as you cant run and often you find you character turning if you're not straight on to the camera. That can be annoying if you're trying to walk down an alley filled with spikes as they kill you!
It's kind of like dead island (with the melee) and resident evil 4 combined. Loads of weapons also.
Definitely recommend but wait until at most 25.00 quid!
Rise Of Nightmares was an impulse buy for me, I saw it cheap and thought 'why not'. I was expecting a lot less, I knew or had a feeling it would be like House of the Dead crossed with Resident Evil and it was pretty much spot on.
The enemies are HOTD style, with different movements required to kill them, and the scenery and music etc is more resi. I love both games, so this was a great choice for me. Some very nice interaction ideas from Kinect, such as pushing or kicking doors open, pulling levers down, turning wheels and dodging out the way of attacks.
As some have said, it is fairly gorey with dismemberment and blood, but not as much bad language as I thought. The story is decent, engaging and enjoyable, and the acting is a decent standard. The movement does take a bit of getting used to but once you understand how to interract with the environment properly, it's very immersive and feels rewarding.
Overall, a very good game for the price, as long as you don't expect something mindblowing.
I've noticed how the critics weren't exactly loving this game when it came out but the public's opinion differs greatly from it. That includes me.
I'm going to keep this short: Rise of Nightmares is one of the better games for Kinect, among such titles as Dance Central and Child of Eden. The graphics are good enough to excuse the often empty environments, the story feels very cliched at first (and only at first) but like a Kinect-game should, it stands out with its gameplay.
After a level or two of getting used to the controls it all felt very natural to me. The game eases you into the more reflex-requiring gestures and offers a variety more later on. I only experienced two, maybe three frustrating moments during the time I played the game through twice. And get this: one of those times was in COMPLETE DARKNESS. The menus were the best I've seen in a Kinect-game so far, without the need to hold your hand on buttons the sizes of elephants.
All in all I think it's a game every Kinect-owner should at least try. It's fun, surprisingly responsive (like I said, in complete darkness too), it's got replay-value, it's not an incredible workout which is nice for a change. I think it's worth its price as opposed to another reviewer saying people should wait for the price drop.

Worst game ive ever played, level design and gameplay are far too dull and repetitive.
Storyline is bad, and its hard to fully get into the game due to the clunky turning, you will get used to it after around half an hour. also having a light on while playing a horror game doesnt detract at all from the experience.
it is however quite good fun slashing etc, and the different weapons keeps this feature fresh, but importantly the movement let it down.
Boss fights are the highlight of the game, probably the main reason for progressing through the game.
All in all for around a tenner its probably worth buying just to have a go because theres a lot of potential in the game,
But story and level design let it down majorly. dissapointing really. It feels like they made the controls and then as an afterthought came up a lackluster game around it
