I started playing Crackdown, and wasn't sure if I would like it. After about half an hour getting used to the controls and gameplay I realised what a brilliant game it actually is.
It is a free flowing game, where you don't have to stick to any set route, you can go about the game in any way you like really. You level your character up by collecting the Agility orbs and also the 'hidden orbs' that you find scattered in sneaky locations. Once you keep leveling your law enforcer agent up, the tasks that he can perform are pretty outstanding and satisfying. He can leap off the tops of building, pick up all sorts of objects (even cars) and climb to outstanding heights, some of the views are breathtaking. This is without me even mentioning the gangs and bosses that are there to be wiped out, 21 in all to infiltrate. Some of the bosses are heavily guarded, and will present you with a challenge. You can also drive any vehicle that is moving, simply flag one down and hop in!!
All in all I would recommend anyone to give Crackdown a go, as its totally non-linear gaming at its finest (I don't normally go for these type of games too, but it was in with the 3 games I got once I bought my 360)
Thumbs Up!!
Crackdown has certainly taking inspiration from the open world template laid down by the Grand Theft Auto series but has enough ideas of its own to ensure it does not live in the shadows of Rockstars epics. Played from a third-person perspective players take control of one of a selection of super-agents based in Pacific City. You soon learn that it is not a particularly safe place with the authorities in turmoil and three powerful criminal gangs spread across the landscape.
The goal is to wipe out these gangs and while the story itself is fairly simplistic the gameplay more than makes up for it. As you power up your agent you gradually become quicker, stronger and more skilled in the use of weaponry. Pretty soon you will be leaping over buildings or taking out entire groups of enemies with the throw of a car. The emphasise in Crackdown is all about giving the player free reign and it succeeds completely, there is rarely a dull moment here.
Playing the game alone is certainly a blast from start to finish but it is in when played with a friend over Xbox Live that the game really comes into its own. Another player is free to drop in an out of your game at any point helping with just some of the tougher bosses or the entire game if they wish. There are no restrictions on where each player can go either so it is entirely possible to be fighting on the opposite side of the map to your friend, although teamwork does make things easier. Aside from the main campaign there are plenty of timed races and collectables located on the map for those that enjoy that sort of thing. The collectables come in the form of 'orbs' that each improve different stats for your character and chasing down every last one can be extremely addictive.
While a sequel is now available on Xbox360, adding new gameplay elements such as the fantastic flight suit, it is the original Crackdown that remains the superior experience.
I waited and waited and waited for this game, and for a while its such an amazing game, building up your characters strength and agility, been able to pick up and throw huge buses and not forgetting jumping around like a super hero! But after a week or so me and my friends all got bored of this game, there isn't really anything to do after killing the bosses, nothing that keeps you gripped.
Although, new downloadable content is been released soon which should revive this game for a while!
its a great idea and the city is great and you can have a lot of fun wondering around doing rampages or races or just causing chaos. free roaming is amazing and it plays really well.
HOWEVER, your objective in this game is to hunt down a load of criminals and kill them all
in the same way every time
you just have to roam around til you find there location then you get information about them and you are told to kill them. then you run in and kill them
it is very repetitive
so this game would be great (up to the standards of GTA) if it had a decent story mode with lots of different missions
it doesnt.
This is the best game ever made by Real Time Worlds, it`s just so amazing the way you advance in weapons, skills such as strenght, speed, acrobatics and and agility, vehicles, and some other things.
You can throw almost anything you like at criminals, and the normal policeforces will let you kill a few civilians but not too many.
The storyline should have been a little longer and better but other than that it is a very good game.
Overall I highly recommend Crackdown to any Xbox 360 owner.
(Too bad my CD was broken)...
