In Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, players assume control of Raiden, protagonist of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and supporting character in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. A key gameplay feature for the game is titled zan-datsu, which involves "cutting" through enemies and "taking" parts from the bodies of dismembered cyborgs and robots. Rising's stealth elements will emphasize Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth." Unlike the "waiting stealth" of previous titles, in which players remained hidden and avoided combat, players in Rising will instead quickly stalk their enemies and use acrobatic maneuvers to stay out of sight while closing in. This ties in with the game's zan-datsu feature, allowing them to prey upon enemies to obtain weapons, items, and energy.

  • *Artwork subject to change
  • Rising's stealth elements will emphasise Raiden's considerable speed and agility through what Matsuyama describes as "hunting stealth"
  • Gameplay will focus on two key elements: swordfighting, and a style of stealth that is more fast-paced and action-oriented
  • "Cutting" entails sophisticated swordplay that lets players engage in third person melee combat, as well as precisely slash enemies and objects "at will" along a geometrical plane using a "free slicing" mode

Played and completed this game 3 times and will do so one or two more times before I give it a break for a while!

It's cut from the same cloth as all other metal gear solids' (cool bosses, good story, great graphics and subtle humour) but it makes a good change from sneaking about as you just go wild and carve everything up!

To summarise, it's similar, yet still massively different from other MGS' games. I highly recommend it and it's the first story mode I've played over and over straight after completing it since zelda.

Starts ok to dull......becomes AMAZING !!!

I have to say I downloaded the demo played it once and turned it off unimpressed. I went into town one day to buy Crysis and they were sold out, so in my frustration I picked up this instead.

I put it on and again felt a bit frustrated, I was gettin beat up ALOT and didnt feel like I was playing with the finesse and skill that you see from the adverts. I was about to give up.

But i kept going. And after a bit I was rewarded.....it takes a wee while to get used to playing, I have it on the xbox and to parry attacks you have to push forward on the left stick and press X at the same time just as the enemy is about to strike you, and once you learn this the game opens up....after that I was beating people left right and center, and with such fun.

The boss battles are amazing and set pieces unreal !! I absolutely recommend it, and bare with it cause you get better and things become awesome.

I would have said 5 stars but Im only half way through and thought it would be daft to rate it 5 if im not finished.

 excellent

brilliant game, as well as challenging, if you put it on normal that is! The gameplay and story line is enjoyable and easy to follow. only problem is the length of the campaign i cleared it in under 6 hours playing it on normal. I will highly recommend it, as i have loads of fun slicing the enemies to bits.
