  Sometimes good, sometimes poor.

Castlevania Lords of Shadow is one of the most inconsistent games I've ever played. Some levels are very good at times God of War quality and some levels are unbelieveably poor just making your way along a set path killing forgettable enemies. The graphics are great and some boss battles are very good (although they borrow from Shadow of the Collossus). The combat is fun with lots of moves to unlock, although on normal difficulty you can get through the game using just avoid then heavy attack. Overall good game with lots of filler.

  Beautiful Button Bashing Entertainment!

I love this game. The graphics are amazing and the variety of enemies is good. The game is designed in such a way that you are forced to replay earlier levels to unlock certain weapon upgrades - but as the levels are so beautifully rendered and so much fun to play that this is not an issue.

If you want to know what this game is similar to then think Devil May Cry 1 (which was a PS2 game) crossed with Tomb Raider 1.

I have read reviews of people saying that they had problems with the save system. I have not experienced this myself and I have not experienced any glitches (although I have not yet finished the game yet).

If you enjoy great graphics, unlocking cool new moves and weapons and button bashing mayhem then look no further and add this to your basket now!

I am half way through this game and have to say that the graphics really are amazing and that for me so far is the high point of the game. The gameplay can be very fustrating with camera angles you cannot change that make it difficult somtimes to see what you are doing. The game is very long which is also good as you get good value for your money.

  great graphics shame about gameplay

This game looks amazing but plays poorly. You can't alter the camera angle and the playing area is tiny, you have to stick to the narrow area's allowed, no exploring!
It gets annoying when you want to look around but can't. When the playing area does open up its usually for a boss fight, these are varied and highly detailed but the controls responses again let it down.
If the games developers had spent more time on the gameplay as with the graphics this game would be great but its let down by how it controls.

This game really came out of left field. I tried the demo on Xbox Live and was suitably impressed. Then, seeing it come down in price, I went for it. It is consistently impressive throughout the gametime. Its epic scale and lush graphics continuously impress. Gameplay is a great mixture between Prince of Persia platforming & hack n' slash combat. The main driving force for me was pushing to see what could possibly come next and anticpating getting into the Vampire's castle. The art design of the entire game is impeccable. The titan battles being a particular highlight. With a fantastic epilogue sequence I am hoping that there is a sequel in the works. A hidden gem of a game that deserves more attention.

  Incredible reboot.

Castlevania took me a day to complete. I'm not talking a day as in one or a few sittings, I mean 24 hours. It's long. It's big. And..... It's awesome. I suppose the greatest testament to the game is that it was never a slog or energy draining, it actually felt like a quite short game, I enjoyed it that much. The gameplay itself is fun if not particularly innovative, with combo based slashing making up the combat sections. Puzzle and platform also constitute this beast of a game, both being fun without being particularly taxing. I also really enjoyed the various beasties you fight along the way. I should also mention that the graphics and voice acting are superb, adding to the excellent story. It's pretty damn epic.

It is often said that imitation is the ultimate form of flattery; well if this is the case, JRR Tolkien and/or Peter Jackson must be very proud men indeed.
Castlevania LOS is a fantastic game with some beautiful level design; some top notch voice talent, a very stirring musical score and some brilliant creature design to boot. The only place where the designers seemed not to have strived for 110% is with originality. There are some glaringly obvious nods to a certain fantasy book or film trilogy including Wargs, Giant Spiders (not unlike Shelob) and even vampires that bear more than a passing resemblance to the Uruk Hai. We even have a main narrative character called Gandolfi! You cannot help but smile at these things and yet, this does not detract or make the game anything less. If anything, the game is stronger as it feels that little bit familiar especially to anyone who has seen the films. With Old Skool game design right at its core and in the very best traditions of Devil May Cry and Onimusha, this hack and slash game spread across 2 bursting at the seams discs really is value for money! If you fancy a bit of story driven fun, albeit a little bit Lord of the Rings inspired, then this may just tick some if not all of the boxes!

In short this game is great fun, fantastic story, some beautifully designed levels and artwork, brutal moves and a hero that you can actually relate to. Having recently played Star Wars force Unleashed 2 I can say that this wipes the floor with it BIG TIME!
Lucasarts take notes... I recommend this game strongly to those who enjoy fantasy and even if you are a bit skeptical give it a go.. I did and one of the best games this year.
