Simply The Best Basketball Game Ever!

I am a huge fan of Basketball and Basketball games. I've been playing them ever since the days of Lakers vs. Celtics on the Sega Megadrive or TV Sports Basketball on the Commodore Amiga. Over the years there have been some good and some not so good ones but there have been very few that were great. The first in EA Sports' NBA Live series for the original PlayStation was truly great but since then, I've found the EA sports series pretty hit or miss.

Once I got my XBox 360, the first demo I downloaded from XBox Live was NBA 2K7 and my jaw was on the floor for the whole of the first game I played, then the second, and the third.... you get the idea. The first and most obvious things to mention are the graphics and the animations. I have never in my life seen characters move more fluidly and like people than in NBA 2K7. The graphics are simply outstanding! The players' uniforms move and billow as the players move in different directions; the players sweat as they spend longer out on the floor; and most of the players have their own signature animations for shooting so they do more than merely resemble their real-life counterparts - they actually move like them!

But the graphics are just the start of this basketball feast. The presentation style - including things like commentary and camera angles - is simply the finest I've ever seen. The only criticism I would level is that the menu screens and various other screens that make an appearance during the game hark back to the Megadrive days in terms of their visual styling. Maybe it's retro-chic but I don't care for it personally. Anyway, that's pretty much the only niggle I have with this game - and that's being really picky.

The gameplay itself is stunning and tremendous fun and should prove a reasonable challenge for most players before they migrate to online play. There are all the usual game modes such as a Franchise mode (called The Association), Season Mode, and the like along with a 2K Sports original called 24/7 which is an interesting change of pace and is about creating a custom player and taking him through various street-ball challenges. I personally didn't really care for it but it's a real bonus to have along side the unsurpassed core gameplay.

You can still download the demo and try before you buy but I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. I bought this months ago and still can't stop playing it. Roll on NBA 2K8 - I'll be waiting for it!

This game is outstanding. An Excellent simulation. The way it makes you work really hard with clever passing to create the space to get to the rim is brilliant, especially on the highest difficulty. The dunk stick is brilliant, letting you choose what style of dunk to do when you finally create the space, and if you get a classy dunker(Bryant or James for example) the results can be dazzling!!

The defending is very challenging, you need to keep them away from the basket, you can't just repeatedly press the steal button and hope to get the ball back, you will give fouls away if you do this.

The association mode is very in depth, with trades, contract renewals, training, player development. This all seems to be available in a potentially life consuming online mode, but i haven't been brave enough to do this yet!! I don't see much of the sun as it is! The street mode, is a completely different game, where there are no fouls and slightly easier routes to the basket.

One down side i found is the player likenesses, which are acceptable at best, but when it plays and looks this good(the sweat is particularly impressive!) the fact the face isn't quite right, doesn't really matter.

I've had this game since it's release and am still playing it, long after the fifa's and Gears of War of this world are gathering dust. If you want a simulation get this, if you want a game with easy dunks and easy steals, get this and just play the street mode! It really has got something for everyone, except people who don't like basketball...

Great gameplay, but where's the graphics?

NBA 2K7 is the best basketball game I have ever played simply because of its gameplay, NOT its graphics! The AI of the opposition makes this game a real challenge because you have to use the offensive and defensive strategies and set-plays to overcome your opponent. Unlike other basketball games, you cannot simply use one player to try and run at defending players until you get to the hoop or hopelessly attempt to steal the ball over and over again, because of the AI. This makes the game seem far more realistic and requires the player to think about how they can beat their opponent on each offensive and defensive play. The shot-stick and how a player can manipulate its use to score baskets is an effective alternative to the use of standard buttons. The inclusion of detailed replays and descriptive half-time reports, makes the game feel like you are actually watching a basketball match on TV and makes it that little bit more realistic.
However, the only reson why this game does not get the 5 star rating is that the graphics are poor. The images on the back of the game case do not reflect what the in-game graphics are like and I was disappointed.
NBA 2K7 is a MUST BUY for any sports-game fan because of its immersive and realistic gameplay but do not expect 360 graphics.

 Its an Average Game

In all Honesty this game is pretty Average, For Graphics and eveything like that, Its outstanding. For actual gameplay, not so. Anyone who watches The game will know that LeBron James is an outstanding "To the Rim Dunker" On this game it is quite hard to get anywere near it even on the 2nd of 5 difficulty levels. The skill buttons are to complicated and Defensive fouls are to easy to give away. Overall I give this game 3 out of 5, Purely for realism in looks!!!!

 dissapointingly poor game

OVer the years i have had many baketball games and this has got to be one of the worst. The menus are horrible and the gameplay is just as bad. This may be becuase im used to NBA live games which just seems to be so much better quality graphics and gameplay. This is the first 2k game ive had and im not planning on buying another one after this. I brought this on release and it was around £40 now it is £17.99 which i would say is quite a good price to pay for this game. I certainly would not pay £40 for another 2K game again!
