Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a dark and gritty tale of two men bound by circumstance as they wait on death row for their final sentence. One is a flawed mercenary, the other a medicated psychopath. The two are forced to embark on a violent and chaotic journey, hating each other every step of the way. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a story-driven, fully co-operative third-person action shooter title, with intuitive crew mechanics, heavily populated destructible real-world scenarios, a volatile partnership and brutal attitude.
  • Suitable for 18 years and over. Not for sale to persons under age 18. By purchasing this product, you declare that you are 18 years of age and over.

Tense and Unpredictable Experience: This is the violent and chaotic journey of two men: a flawed mercenary and a medicated psychopath. Each hates the other but must work together to save themselves and possibly the ones they love. Play Kane in single-player mode and either character in two-player co-op mode.

Violence Erupts in Meticulously Created 'Safe' Worlds: Realistic and responsive environments and crowds react when events get of out control. Crowded nightclubs and calm bank offices become scenes of sudden terror. Manipulate the environments and crowds strategically to complete objectives.

Wide Variety of Intense 3rd Person Gameplay: Rappel from buildings, firing on the run or from moving vehicles, launch surprise attacks, lay down cover fire, and shoot blind from around corners, hurl smoke, tear, and incendiary grenades.

Fast and Intuitive Combat: Lead a crew of criminal mercenaries to increase your chance of surviving and reaching your goals. You can also fight alone as your crew AI will automatically draw fire, throw grenades, lay down cover, and engage in close combat with their own signature moves.

Two-player Co-operative Gameplay: Team up and play the full story with a friend as either Kane or Lynch. On the big jobs, split the command of your crew. At any point in the game you can choose to play the next, or previous, levels in co-op.

Innovative Multiplayer Levels: Based on the game's themes for up to 8 players.

If you've completed GTA IV, can't wait for the expansion and want to try a less playable rip-off then there is some enjoyment to be had here. The storyline is reasonable, the graphics passable if somewhat sparse and that's where the similarities end. Despite looking like a less polished GTA, the control method is completely different. It's almost as if they changed the combat method in order to avoid accusations of ripping off GTA IV. Despite its failings, the difficulty level is set about right so at least you feel you're accomplishing something as you shoot away.

I recieved this game on fri, and have managed to play through up to the point where Kane and Lynch try to initiate a prison breakout.
Yes, I agree that AI is not too good, and yes I agree that there are some issues with the cover system and some elements of gameplay. I do not, however think this is reason alone not play the game.
Someone mentioned in a previous review the un-realism of the game, for example- getting an adrenaline injection after being "shot ten times". Sounds about as unrealistic as a multitude of games out there whose heroes/heroines are shot a 100 times but miraculously heal after taking a first aid pack. The fact that they have used a different healing system, I feel, is adding a little something different to the mix, add to that the fact that your character is limited to only being able to recieve two to three shots of the stuff before he OD`s and dies anyway. That in my opinion adds a little more realism into the game play.
Someone mentioned that the graphics were awful. Ok, they are not the best I have seen on the 360, but they are no way near as bad as people make out. Some of the effects I have seen are actually quite good. One particular effect that springs to mind are damage effects. Hit a wall- the spray of dust and debris is quite good, I particularly like the way the dust falls to the ground. Hit a pillar- same effect, unless you hit a weak spot and then the damage is more severe. Shoot a car, and you riddle it with holes, holes that, I might add, dont suddenly disappear..... Shoot an enemy in the head, and he goes down, shoot him in the leg and you wing him. That, in my opinion is a good physics engine.
Voice acting is good, and the use of language fits the type of game it is, so expect a lot of -shall we say- colourful metaphors to be used.. a lot! The relationship between the two main characters is very good, Its quite obvious the two hate each other, and they let eachother know this at every oportunity!
Story is good, if a little ambitious, but then if it wasnt there would be no fire fights to speak of, making it a very boring game. Yes, its far fetched, but then so are many of the films this game has quite obviously taken its ideas from. The fire fights are good, and you will have to work for your kill. Someone mentioned that you have to fire about ten rounds before you hit anyone, where as their rounds always hit their mark. I agree to a degree, but if I move my character from cover to cover, they have the same problem as you have. Also, the closer you are to them the easier it is to hit them, but vice versa. Again this adds to the mix.
Up to now I have enjoyed the firefights and the gritty atmosphere of the game. I dont think it is a benchmark game, but I dont think its that bad. It certainly is NOT the worst game on the console as some people have claimed.
            In summary.
A dark, gritty, violent game with a pretty decent-if far fetched- story line, good graphics with some good effects. good voice acting and sound. Firefights are fun, and fast paced, and unless you use your team and move from cover to cover, can be quite short!
On the downside, AI is poor, and there are some gameplay issues such as use of cover which could have been thought out a bit better. If you do die you find yourself having to re-start the scene, with no manual save option, which can be fustrating, especially on some of the harder chapters.
On the whole I would pay lip sevice to some of the comments that have been made to this game. Its not as bad as some of them say. My reccomendation would be to rent first if you are not too sure. Its certainly not going to be in contention for game of the year, but its still a good game in my opinion, and worth a try.

... I really don't. Perhaps this is gaming Marmite, and you're forced to one extreme or the other by it's yeasty-vileness?

However, as much as I hate Marmite, I found myself warming to Kane & Lynch.

The game's story revolves around the two eponymous characters - who form an unlikely partnership in a story of revenge, criminality, and gunplay. It's a familiar formula, but it's also one that works.

The story was award-nominated and has now been optioned for a film - as well it might, because that's what it's intending to replicate. From the start of the game to the very end you feel you're playing through HEAT, or some other slick action/crime movie. Rather than blasting from checkpoint to checkpoint you're on a real journey, as Kane & Lynch attempt to redeem themselves. From first to last it is guns and action.

Complaints have been made that the game is repetitive. Well, in shooting games you shoot - and in Kane & Lynch you shoot. The action in Kane & Lynch maintains a healthy pace, moving from gunfight to gunfight. Perhaps there could have been more diversity, but Kane & Lynch is attempting to work the gameplay around it's story - rather than stretching the story to match it's gameplay.

It does give you some glorious levels in which to work your trigger finger though - shooting through a nightclub in John Woo-fashion; rappelling down a Tokyo skyscraper for a gunfight in the boardroom; gunning your friends out of a prison...

Thematically - brilliant. Technically... well, ok.

Control is GTA-esque, 3rd person. The controls are simple enough and lend themselves well to the action. As with all 3rd person shooters, it suffers from being less precise than it's 1st person cousins, but not enough to compromise the gameplay.

The cover system is an enigma. Whilst dishing out the pain is easy, avoiding it can sometimes be complicated - by running up to objects your character will settle into cover automatically. Unlike GoW and GRAW this is a more subtle affair, and player movements will break you out of cover quickly.

The squad combat system is elementary at best; but, importantly, it does the job required of it. Attack; defend; follow - it was barely going to set the strategy world alive, but it does what's required in the middle of a firefight.

The graphics are well executed. Some of the immediate detail is missing, which other reviews have commented on - they're certainly not going to challenge the likes of Unreal Tournament 3 or Far Cry 2 - but they were never meant to. What they do, however, is give you a real sense of what the game is about; thematically, they work, blending well with the sound, dialogue and action. The overall sense is a 'this is good' rather than the graphics alone providing the wow factor.

The co-op play is the real gem, though does throw up the odd annoying moment. Online play is fun, and the achievements are a nice touch - they're a good spread, and offer some solid replayability, as opposed to "why can't I do it" headbanging.

I read the reviews and waited; and after playing it, I now think I wasted a lot of time that I could have spent playing this game - because it's a lot better than people would have you believe. Three and a half stars.

             What a let down

First off, Hitman is a great game but.... no matter how i look at it this game is SOOOO BAD!!!! first off its supposed to be a CO-OP game according to the reviews i read, I would just like to add that in todays world with the wonders of modern technology if im gonna play a game co-op then i would like to do so with a friend over xboxlive and not splitscreen as you have to do so in this game :-( the gameplay is terrible and the mutiplayer is even worst... Sorry its a negitive review....
