Front Mission Evolved

Overall this game is an average 3rd person shooter with a mech twist. Despite being perched in the cockpit of a building sized walking battle tank, the game plays like any other 3rd person shooter - notably when you leave your mech (sorry... they call them wanzers...) and start running and gunning as a mere human, the gameplay remains exactly the same as it does in the mechs - especially in terms of how the enemy AI handles itself. This being said, the game is solid enough. Having so much weaponry at your fingurtips is a nice twist and the varied and flexible tweaking options for upgrading your mech mean there is quite a lot of RPG-lite touches to the game. This is by no means a classic, but for under a tenner is definitely worth a dabble.
