All the fans of Fallout 3 and who grow to love the engine style and graphics NV is a step up in every area sure there may be a few bugs and glitches but with a game this massive thats just impossible to avoid so just reload your savepoint and get on with it.
Bethesda have listened to their fans and improved on all the areas they didnt shine on with Fallout 3 for example customizable weapons, Improved HUD and most importantly hardcore mode for those hardcore gamers who like a challenge which Fallout 3 never really had
Whilst looking similar to the last Fallout, New Vegas in my opinion is superior over Fallout 3 in every single way, the story has vastly improved, with plenty of new features such as Iron sights and hardcore mode, and enemies that are much more difficult than those in Fallout 3, it is no longer possible to just waltz through the wasteland, in New Vegas, it's much more of a challenge. There are more "roleplay" mechanics like companions, crafting, and the removal of level scaling, and it has refined old mechanics like S.P.E.C.I.A.L and tweaking the effects of various skills like big guns. Whilst glitchy in some places, I believe that Obsidian are planning on releasing some patches to fix those inconveniences. Whilst most people will write it off because of the lack of multiplayer, understand that the Fallout series has NEVER been a multiplayer, or co-op game, and it never will be. The graphics may look a little edgy, but blame Bethesda who used the Gamebyro engine, which looks years old (same engine used in Oblivion + Fallout 3) and Obsidian did the best with it that they could, remember that a majority of the Obsidian team are former members of Black Isle, the studio that created the original Fallout games.
It's a much better RPG, even if it's still largely a shooter.
Basically, in my opinion, it's what Fallout 3 should have been.
Playing the game early i have realised the game is pretty much exactly the same as the last fallout with no real improvements...
okay so fallout 3 was good but it had its room for improvements, like maybe some co-op and better handling...
None of this has been done there isnt any multiplayer or co op and handling if anything is worse than last one for example climbing up rock faces is now pretty much impossible making you walk all the way round an already long walk map even with instant travel once you been in that location...
good things are improved weapons such as add ons like scopes and diffrent ammo types.
overall if you liked fallout 3 buy it if you think it needed lots of improvements, dont bother...
graphics 4/5
handling 2/5
gameplay 3/5
customisation 2/5
I loved Oblivion (over 1000 hours play time), I loved Fallout 3, even with all it's faults such as items falling through walls and floors etc, and put in over 300 hours play time on numerous playthroughs.
New Vegas however takes the programmes' bugginess to new heights.
I've been playing for over fifty hours and now it's decided not to let me load any of my game saves! Deep joy!
It either locks up on loading a save or tells me that the downloadable content - Caravan Pack, presumably - is not available and wont load.
Maybe I'm just Mr Unlucky and the rest of you will be ok but as there is no one to complain to to try and sort this out the game is going on my shelf until such time as there is a fix.
Very, very disappointing!
This is the 360 version.
Having done some research on this problem I've found that I'm not Mr Unlucky after all. This is a documented problem across all three platforms, however there is a patch available for the PC version just nothing in sight for us 360/PS3 owners as yet.
The only bright spot is that the place I purchased my game from has readily agreed to my returning New Vegas for a full refund - even after I'd explained I'd played it for over 50 hours!
That tells you something as most places say that you're out of luck once the wrappings' off.
My theory is that if enough of us return this otherwise brilliant game the developers will have to fix the problem asap and then we can all buy it again and lose ourselves in the New Vegas world.
After playing up to 20 hours this game was outstanding, the gameplay was brilliant and it was just so addictive. I spent hours trying to get the achievements and was fully engrossed in the game even through all the freezing and glitches until!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After about 25 hours of play I died and the loading screen came up 20 seconds later the following message appeared
This save game relies on downloadable content that is no longer available. Some objects may be no longer available. Continue loading Yes/No
So I pressed Yes only to be greeted by the following message
The storage device you selected is no longer available. Load cancelled
I could not believe it luckily I had a hard save game only 2 hours behind. So I went back redid my previous hard work and carried on. By now I had over 35 hours of gameplay clocked up for the same to happen again. Anyway I went back to a previous hard save (which I had now started doing regually) only for the whole xbox to freeze on the load screen. I had 7 saves do exactly the same. 35 hours of building my character destroyed down to poor programming and a lack of comprehensive beta testing.
Until a patch comes out (if one comes out) DO NOT buy this game most of the reviewers have probably only played 15 hours max so therefore have not been introduced to this terrible glitch (YET). Look it up on the internet everyone is getting the same problem.
However on a final note, if this game had not had such terrible glitches this would of been my best game of all time what a horrible horrible shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
