I was looking forward to this title hitting the xbox 360 but cant help thinking that it lacks some of the finer details. The look and feel of the game are spot on. The detail of the cars and tracks are fantastic and when it starts raining the detail is great too. You have many different game settings which you can play about with at any time, and they will help you settle into the game. Things like ABS, traction control and automatic gearboxes. You can also have a full racing line to get you used to the tracks. When it comes to a race weekend you can have a full race weekend with all practice and qualifying sessions, or a shortened weekend with just one practice and one quali session. As you progress through the career mode you gain intrest from other teams who will make you contract offers, which I thought was a nice touch.
The things I think let this game down are the fact there is no safety car and no commentry. You do have an engineer who talks to you but his vocabulary is very limited and he is very repetitive. All in all its a very good game though and like I said in the title, its not a bad first time effort. 4/5
I got this on release really looking forward to playing it, and at first it was brilliant, sure the paddock stuff is a tad rubbish but the actuall driving is great.
Then Saturday night I got an save corrupted error (which is quite common if you google it). I started again quite annoyed, but doing better than before untill just now, when something happened that made me want to write a review of it. While racing at Catalunya Mark Webber managed to win the race without pitting once. He stayed 2nd behind me for 14 laps then when I went in, he stayed out and never went in for the mandatory pit stop.
These are just two of the bugs/issues that have affected me, a quick search on the internet will reveal quite a few more, I'd wait to 2011 if you're a true F1 fan rather than see it butchered in this game.
excellent game, shame there are a few bugs which would put people off. a word of advice if you are thinking of buying .... if you manage to run any R&D tests during your practice sessions, MAKE SURE you complete the following qualifying session before saving the game. I got halfway thru my 1st season with Virgin and it crashed ... other than that, i really can't fault it!!!
Update: there is now a patch for this game which will download 1st time you play ..... it has resolved ALL known issues
Superb in every way. Amazing "feel" of authenticity as you race round the tracks. Every track is detailed to the smallest bump or defect. Great career mode, superb qualifying (you actually WANT to play qualifying) and brilliant handling. Im not an F1 head, in fact ive never liked it, but after playing this im watching every grad prix on tv.
I am hooked on this game. The way it is set up makes you really want to improve your skills, climb that leaderboard and put one over your team mate. While Bruno Senna is my team mate it's not such a big deal but in the future when I'm racing against Fernando Alonso for Ferrari or Lewis Hamilton at McLaren then it is going to be pretty special. The detail is amazing and sometimes it can be distracting as you take in the scenery you are flying past at 170mph.
But one of the best things about the game is the variety of difficulty settings that you can alter to suit your skill level. People who complain the game is too easy probably had it on easy, with braking assist, full traction control, racing lines and amateur AI. However, switch the AI to legend and turn off all the assists and you're in for a challenge and a half! If you're not up for spending 2 hours on one race (it takes a long time to get back on track after spinning into gravel traps) then you can find your own level, and intensify it when you start to get good,
All in all this game does what you want it too. There are a few little things I would change in the career mode, but the driving itself is perfect, and that's all we really care about. F1 fans want to whizz past their adversaries at ridiculous speeds whilst also thinking "Is that rain? Maybe switch to some intermediates". This lets you do as much or as little as you wish on the technical side, but we all love flying down the track, hearing the engine and seeing your name at the top of the leader board. So just get it over with and go buy it now!!!!
