2 Is everyone smoking something?Kurlach | 15/09/2010 | See all Kurlach's reviews (4)I've posted this elsewhere.. but felt the need to post here too to redress the balance. So yesterday the much hyped 'Halo: Reach - Legendary Collector's Edition' (short title) turned up. Nice packaging. Nice extras. In went the game.I remember playing Halo on my XBox, and blinking in confusion. I'd been playing FPSes on PC for years, so was accustomed to a certain level of polish and graphics, and Halo wasn't even sub-par.Years later, and Halo: Reach appears. "I've got a 360, some cash, why not give it a go. The live action trailers look good". Ooooh, what a silly boy I was. Now, I'm no Call of Duty fanboy (unless I like to feel like I'm ice-skating), but for god sakes, what is everyone smoking?? With Microsoft in their back-pocket, this is the best graphics that Bungie could come up with? Years of development, untold millions of dollars of funding, and _this_ is it? And everyone thinks' it's amazing? At least the COD series has a certain level of graphical excellence. Now, I'm not saying that graphics are the be all and end all of a game (some of my favourite games hark back to the Commodore 64, which I'll play now and then via an emulator), but come on. This looks like something on the XBox. Textures are ill-defined, bland, the guns are all 'pew pew pew' and feel like you're hitting an enemy with a foam mallet. And talking of guns, my next gripe: hello?? Aiming?? Why can I not aim down the sight of the weapon I am using? And yes, before anyone moans, I know I can press a button on some weapons and get another view to zoom in - but then I have no peripheral vision at all and feel completely disconnected. Why in the name of all that's holy and good could they just not have added that feature?Headshots in any multiplayer mode are a thing of luck most of the time, how can I get a bloody headshot if most of the weapons have no aim mode? All I can say, after playing this I loaded up Uncharted 2 on my PS3.. and I laughed. And yes, I know it's a different genre, but so what? Maybe this is aimed at teens, I don't know.. but if you ever need proof that just because something is loved by the masses doesn't necessarily make it good, then here's a perfect example.
