Welcome To Columbia

The year is 1912.

With the United States emerging as a world power, the floating City of Columbia is a mighty symbol of American ideals, launched with great fanfare to the cheers of a captivated public. But what begins as an endeavour of hope soon turns to disaster, as the city disappears into the clouds, its whereabouts unknown. The greatest accomplishment in American history has vanished without a trace.

The player assumes the role of former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt, sent to Columbia to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned there since childhood. He will develop a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt will learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities.

This game probably has one of the best singleplayer campaigns I have played since Bioshock 1. It takes a great turn away from the world of Rapture, while still maintaining the same atmosphere which I loved. The game feels a lot brighter than number 1 and 2 but has a dark undertone. The combat has improved hugely with the addition of the skyhook, allowing use of the numberous skylines around the city. It can also be used for exciting melee moves.

The game quickly makes you form a bond with the companion you have throughout the game, Elizabeth. This means you have a real feeling of dread when you are apart. She also adds layers to the combat by allowing the openings of different 'tears' which can place different structures into the battlefield such as cover.

Just like in Bioshock 1 and 2, enemies can be fought with both weapons and vigors (called plasmids previously). This means that fans of the series will already be used to part of the combat system, while newer players should not find it too difficult to adapt. There are appropriate difficulty levels depending on whether you are a casual or hardcore player.

The best thing about this game though, is the ending. The ending blew me away. As you progress through the storyline, you learn subtle things but even with this knowledge, few people could guess what would happen. The game mixes moments of combat and exploration to intensify the combat furthermore. I would recommend this game as it provides a fantastic escape from your everyday shooter game.

5/5 without a doubt.

 A fantastic shooter

As a huge bioshock fan I was disappointed by the departure of rapture; the environment in the previous two games was fantastic.

With a new game comes a new world - gameplay is very similar to previous 2K games, although the combination between guns and powers is not as smooth as it should be.

The game is fantastic overall and it is only small gripes with progression that mark in down from 5 to 4 stars. The game is far more story focused than the previous two games, which in gameplay terms means you spend more time doing nothing. Other small things like having no access to a level map or being unable to carry health or salts is frustrating. You are dependant on Elizabeth who can be very slow and leave you trapped because "she can't find anything at the moment". Her AI is excellent but part of me wonders what is the point of having an AI; everything she does i used to do myself in bioshock and would rather do my self in infinite.

As a story driven shooter, this is five stars, no questions. But as a fan of bioshock it can never live up to the expectations the previous two games placed on its shoulders.

Conclusion - if you bothered to read this review, BUY THE GAME because you will love it.

 Mediocre

Honestly with all the hype for this game you'd expect a campaign to be longer than 16 hours but sadly this is not the case with Bioshock Inifinte.
Whilst the open combat situations are fun there just aren't enough! You will mainly find yourself fighting the same enemy in the the same sort of situation through out the majority of the game.
Not worth the full 39.99 but if you are a fan of the series like myself just wait for the price to drop.

Fantastic game, never played BioShock or BioShock 2, but I am buying them next week, the game is fantastic, no bugs, no glitches the AI is revolutionary, never once did Elizabeth get in my way, voice acting is brilliant, and the controls feel fresh even though at heart this is a FPS, the story is 10/10, and the ending, my god the ending was fantastic, one of THE talking points in gaming history!

 Game of the year

I am a huge fan of bioshock games and this one just tops the pile. Graphics, story, design, character development this game has it all I can't find one bad thing about this game. As always with bioshock games the story's are very different than most games and takes a while to grasp what's happening but for a game this good it's worth playing it 10 times to find out. This is a must buy in my opinion.
