PES 2012 continues Konami's determination to listen to its fanbase and make key improvements to the aspects the audience demands. Thus, the focus for PES 2012 is to ensure the highest level of playability, challenge and realism for the game, whilst also improving the level of control offered to users. Fundamental changes to all areas of its AI have been made following user feedback. Similarly, teamwork is central to how the game moves and feels, enabling fans to replicate anything they would see in a real match.

  • Active AI: PES 2012 strives to recreate the movement and team ethic of real football, and Active AI plays a vital role in this. Players will no longer flock to a ball, but will make intelligent runs to create space and draw markers, while others will make themselves available, instigate runs, and visibly call for the ball. In the box, support players will make diagonal decoy runs, full backs will overlap on the wings and midfielders will provide support from behind the ball. The new Active AI routines ensure the flow of a match is more natural, with specific routines for both attack and defence. Hold-up play implemented last year has been improved for easier control with more effectiveness. Defending as a unit plays a key role, and players now hold a tight line, check on the distance between each other, track back as a unit, and fill in for each other. As individuals they also make better decisions to close space, block and tackle
  • Jostling: Physicality is a key component in PES 2012, with player strength one of their key individual attributes, and having a vital effect on how they can use their strength to win the ball in a one-on-one situation. Players now fall depending on how they are challenged, with more realistic animations used to show the challenges between two jostling players
  • Off the ball control: Equally key to opening up PES 2012 is the ability to highlight any player at any time. A new system has been implemented, allowing users to switch players with ease. In defence, the right stick is now used to select any outfield player, while set pieces are also enhanced through its use. Goal kicks, corners, free kicks and throw-ins now let the user quickly take control of any player off the ball, enabling clever runs which create space for an attack
  • Referee AI: Referees are also crucial to general game flow and their AI has been greatly enhanced to ensure fewer interruptions to play. Decisions are improved, and advantage is played much more regularly in offside and free kick scenarios. As such, refs will only intervene when truly necessary, but they will show cards if necessary once play has broken down
  • Pass support: Accessed through the new personal player settings, Pass Support allows users to determine the level of AI assistance when passing the ball. Players can opt for one of five settings from full support, right up to full veteran setting which switches off all assistance so that the direction, weight and speed of every pass is at their disposal.eir AI has been greatly enhanced to ensure fewer interruptions to play.  Hopefully the same as the demo

From what I've played of the demo, it feels totally different. The players can move freely, the net physics and ball physics look refined.

It seems like PES has FINALLY stepped up to the mark again. Let's hope it carries through to the full game. My pre order's been set :)

 DEMO review

Considering this is only the demo version, I am very impressed. EVERYTHING has improved, as far as I am aware. I just hope they don't mess things up once the full version is released.

The gameplay is very realistic:
it is very fluent & smooth
the A.I. is ALOT smarter, for both Player and CPU teams, ie. players make more runs, get into better positions, improved man-marking.

The menu is quite similar to PES 2011, quite complicated in my eyes. I wasn't a huge fan of this menu, I'm more of a fan of the old skool menu where it was basic and user friendly. Although I'm not too fussed because its the gameplay that counts!

FOULS - as most people know, the fouling system is RUBBISH! All it takes is a slight *nudge* and the ref blows the whistle for a foul....... NOT ANYMORE!! On average, there are 3-4 fouls per match (10mins). The players are well balanced and stay on their feet, they definitely don't go down as easily. This is a huge improvement, I don't hear the whistle even half as much as I do in PES 2011.

I've found it is alot harder to score (Top Player difficulty). But these are early days, I've not had much time to practice.

The AI is VERY unpredictable - its extremely difficult to read their next move! Its harder to tackle the AI - it seems to be able to read your moves, it has a mind of its own and has more variety - rather than a robot-looking figure heading in the same direction.

I've not found a single flaw in Gameplay, so far. Which is HUGE, as I normally find something straight away. I hope it stays this way cos I love the Pro Evo series, but these days its on par with FIFA.

I'm trying not to like this demo too much cos I wanna give the Fifa demo a fair trial too before I choose either one, but I can already see myself buying PES 2012 at this rate.

If FIFA wants to stay on par with PES this year, it MUST have alotta improvement. Its gonna be a tough call...

EDIT: After playing the demo ALOT I found a major flaw - passing! It will only accept your first decision with the direction of your pass, eg. If you press PASS to the left direction, but you suddenly decide to pass the ball to your right at the last moment, it will NOT allow u to pass to your right! It will only accept your first decision. This flaw may be fixed on the full version, but it made such an impact on me, I have switched to FIFA for the first time, ever!!

If anyone else happens to notice this flaw on the full version, please mention it on your review. I'd be grateful to know.

 pes is back!!

PES Back to its best !

PES 2012 first impressions are thats its a big improvement ! I enjoyed Pes 2011 and this game is better then that, the dribbling and passing is good, the pace is quicker and the shooting is still very good, no goals ever the same. I think this could be a real challenge to this Years Fifa. Gameplay on PES would be hard to beat in my opinion and that makes up for not having licenses which im not fussed about.

 Back to form.

Although I have always been a PES player, I did start to think in the last couple years that FIFA was starting to edge it on gameplay. This year though PES has made a lot of changes and its noticable straight away, especially with the passing. Its dominance over FIFA on graphics is shown once again and if you're after a more realistic footballing experience then this will be the game for you.

I would just also like to note for people to take no notice of reviews based rating the demo, its a demo!! Changes are always made post demo and pre game and when you post a review and rating on here you're doing it for the full game, which makes it inaccurate.
