A game 5 years in the making, Grand Theft Auto 5 offers fans of the series the largest and most detailed Grand Theft Auto experience to date.

Developed by Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto 5 sets a new benchmark for open-world Xbox 360 and PS3 games with the introduction of several new gameplay features. Players will take on the roles of not one, but three brand new protagonists; Michael, Franklin and Trevor, each with their own story arc, personality and abilities as they risk life and limb in a series of daring heists.

Set in sunny Los Santos, the dynamic environment is larger than Red Dead Redemption, GTA IV and GTA San Andreas combined, and for the first time allows players to fully explore underwater. Rockstar Games have amped up the level of customisation by allowing players to buy new clothes, get haircuts and tattoos for each of the characters, as well as tricking out the hundreds of vehicles in the game.

Fans of previous title Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be pleased to hear that Grand Theft Auto 5 also marks the return of an RPG-style levelling system, spanning over nine skills categories. Developers Rockstar Games have also built on the franchises previous economic system, allowing players to not only buy houses, businesses and garages, but also play the stock market and affect shares with their in-game actions.

The latest instalment in the series is also breaking new ground with an exciting multiplayer feature, Grand Theft Auto Online, which is due to launch on October 1st, 2013. Included free in all copies of Grand Theft Auto 5, players will be able to take a custom character into Grand Theft Auto Online to work cooperatively to complete missions or simply explore everything the city has to offer with friends.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and is the absolute must-have game of 2013 and this generation of gaming.

First thing's first, GTA 5 is a fantastic game. The missions are great fun and there is so much to do it hurts your head just thinking about it. From golf, to diving, exploring wide open areas, hunting animals to watching movies. I really like the character change system where you play as 2 or more characters during a mission.

However, there is major flaw, the driving mechanics. Cars handle like a bad need for speed game. Gone is the heavy feeling, hand braking and sliding round corners feel of GTA 4. What you get instead are jerky, badly responsive cars that seem to hover around. No realistic acceleration or deceleration. When you ram other vehicles you either bounce off or stick - and frequently do get stuck between vehicles in a pile up. You can't force your way out, even if in a lorry. It's ridiculous. As driving is the main part of this game, it basically ruins it. I've been playing 3 days solid now and am bored. Rampaging and exploring are what i like best about GTA games, but because the driving mechanics are so awful, it's just no fun. Also the damage is just stupid. A head on crash at full speed hardly dents the cars.

So over all, a great game but i won't be playing this in 4 weeks time, let alone 4 years time like GTA4. Very disappointed - how could Rockstar have messed up the most important aspect of the game? Is this why it was delayed 6 months?

 Disagree with guy below me.

I've been a gamer for years, I love loads of games; metal gear, zelda, final fantasy, farcry, etc - this is definitely the best game I've ever played, or if not that, at least the best game I've played in years.

The driving is far SUPERIOR than previous GTA games, it's much more realistic - but in a good way. This game has a driving skill and certain characters start off worse than others, I can only assume the previous reviewer hasn't figured this out yet.

Great story, great game, great mechanics.

You have to get this game!!!!

Ok where do I start!! Well you gotta beg, borrow or steal to get your hands on a copy of this game and then bunk of work/college/school for a week to really get your teeth into this one. While I've always really enjoyed the GTA series this is the first one to really get me from the very beginning. I was reading another review that wasn't to keen on the openining of the game saying that it was very slow and not fitting with the GTA world as a whole. I had a completely different experience, most likely because I shot the security guard outside the bank vault at the earliest opportunity and then had 10 minutes of glorious GTA Mayhem whilst being told to 'get to the chopper'! After that sequence ended and I was brought to the actual game I couldn't have been more impressed and for me it comes down to how credible the story is as well as the radio stations, a long standing favourite of mine in GTA especially the talk shows. Being a paddy I was more than pleased to hear some ridiculous Irish self help guru spouting all manner of guff over the airwaves while I was trying to keep up with Lamar. I wasn't even going to get this as I have pre-ordered my Xbox one and didn't want to have two consoles under my TV but I really didn't want to miss out on what could be the defining game of this generation! Anyway thats enough from me, back to Los Santos - after I call in sick that is!!!
