Falling for this girl might be hazardous to your health...

Vincent likes his girlfriend. Katherine's pretty, smart, and successful. Trouble is, she's starting to talk about long-term commitment, something Vincent's spent his entire life avoiding. Since romantic complications are the last thing he wants to deal with, Vincent meets his friends for their regular night of drinks. Little does he know that he's about to be blindsided by a beautiful, seductive, irresistible freight train named Catherine.

Suddenly, he's hung over in bed next to the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, unsure about the previous night's events. Was it just making out, he wonders, or did something more serious happen between them? Should he tell Katherine? Will he ever see Catherine again? Vincent's about to find that a stumble on the staircase of love can turn into a horrific, fatal plummet...

  • The horrors of love: Vincent's waking fears, doubts, pressures, and growing guilt about commitment and fidelity now follow him into his dreams, manifesting as horribly disfigured monsters and a ticking clock
  • Between a rock and a soft place: The player must navigate Vincent through heavy moral decisions. As in real life, hardly anything is black and white. Someone's going to get hurt!
  • The nightmare of your dreams: Under the watch of producer Katsura Hashino, acclaimed director of Persona 3 and Persona 4, famed character artist Shigenori Soejima and master composer Shoji Meguro create sights and sounds unlike anything else
  • Escape with or from a friend: Local versus and co-op multiplayer modes, in addition to leader boards, ensure that the many thrills and horrors of racing through twisted stages can be enjoyed by more than one player

 A Unique Experience

Probably best described as an interactive story puzzle game Catherine certainly won't be appeal to everyone but it there is certainly nothing else quite like it.

The main bulk of the gameplay, the puzzle element, involves climbing a set of blocks in order to reach the top before the blocks below you fall or, as is the case on some occasions, a nightmarish creature kills you. As the game progresses further complications, such as slippery ice blocks, are added to up the challenge making the game fairly difficult on anything above the easiest setting.

In between these block climbing puzzles the game tells the story of Vincent, a man in a serious relationship with a woman named Katherine, that finds himself waking up every morning with the seductive Catherine in his bed and no idea how she got there. Depending on the decisions made by the player when asked questions after each puzzle section or when talking to patrons of the Stray Sheep Bar, which acts as a kind of game hub, each cut scene (and the story as a whole) plays out differently. Just how these two separate elements are linked is integral to the story and so I wont spoil it here.

As I said at the start of this review this is not a game that will appeal to the masses but anyone looking for something a little bit out of the ordinary could do a lot worse than give Catherine a try.

I ordered this on saturday afternoon, received it on tuesday morning. Only now getting the chance to start playing it. I'm enjoying every second, every puzzle and the story is so funny. So one of the best games I've bought so far. Would certainly order from this trader again.

 Repetitive

I read all the reviews and understood that this game wouldn't be everyones cup of tea but I didn't realise how shocking it would be. I'm guessing a divorcee or someone who hates the opposite sex created this game as the story focuses much on men and how much they cheat and get scared in relationships.

The levels are all the same and there are horrendously long scenes in between the repetitive levels which makes it feel more like you're watching a movie more than playing a game. I was very disappointed in this game, especially after everyone said how brilliant it was.....
